10 Barrel Joe IPA

10 Barrel Joe IPA

This IPA was formally known as Sam named after its hops; simcoe, amaarillo and mosaic, but we were told this would be a trademark issue with a large craft brewery out of the north-east, so we had to change it. We cycled though a bunch of generic names; Bob, Tom, Dick, Dan, Carl, Frank until we finally arrived on the perfect name for this IPA...Joe.

3.1 Can. Clear gold with a foamy, off white head that lasts and laces. Aromas of pine, herbal notes, grapefruit, biscuit, light straw and lemon. Flavor is similar, some citrus and some bitter pine and herbal notes. wit ha light backbone of biscuit. Medium bodied, smooth with a dry, bitter finish.
3.5 Hazy amber/gold color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, floral hops, some tropical fruit, & citrus; Flavor of slight sweet malt, caramel, pine/resin hops, grain, and citrus (notably grapefruit); Finish is quite bitter; Standard IPA.
3.4 On tap at Batch Gastropub. Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is nice hops, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is dank hops with some citrus hops.
3.8 Btl pours a slightly hazy light golden color with a big white head that fades fast leaving spots of lace on glass. Aromas of pine, citrus fruit, candy, flowers and the dankness. Tastes of resin, tangerine, orange, grapefruit and fruity gummy candy. Light body, good carbonation, smooth mouthfeel, and a dry mouth puckering, bitter finish. This beer would be good on a hot day, it’s really thirst quenching. I wish it was a little more balanced with some nice malts coming through. I really like the hop combo in this beer. It’s probably why I like this beer! Good liquid!
2.4 Draft. Poured hazy yellow with a small head. Faint hoppy nose. Taste was a bit metallic and harsh. Not from the hops. This one is Joe Blow.
3.6 Tap at new bohemia ne with commonmac and samalito. Gold with medium white head and good lacing. Floral resin hop nose. Sticky, aggressive hops. A bit choppy, but ok.
3.5 Pine, pine, and more pine! Taste is very hop forward with almost no malt. Kinda feels like I'm drinking a Christmas tree. Smells strongly of pine. Mouth feel is a little heavy, not particularly smooth but not off-putting either. I personally prefer a more balanced IPA but it's definitely worth a taste.
3.6 bottle, rated in Aug 2017 - Copper pour. Aroma is hop led with resin and citrus. The flavor is aggressively bitter with resin, grapefruit, and some underlying caramel malt. Medium bodied. Quite good.
3.7 Bought in a ‘clearance’ mode. Cheap ipa. Good for a $.50 Beer. Where has this been for the last 4 months? Whose warehouse has hidden this brew???
3.5 Beer at B-laws. Aroma of grains, floral citrus subtle. Earthy. Medium body. Average carbonation. Velvety texture.
3.7 Pours a cloudy orange yellow with a off white head. Aroma of caramel. Taste is malty with a butterscotch note slight bitter offset in the finish. Ends a little sour.
3.4 Backlog entry. Good flavors, close to style, as expected without too many surprises.
3.3 Taster pour at Powder Keg Beer and Chili Festival. Appearance is clear, dark yellow with foamy white head, light sparkle. Aroma is resiny, herbs bordering on mild corn chip. Taste is dank resin bitter, herbs, light sweetness. Palate is medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, soft-to-average carbonation and predominantly bitter finish. Overall, fairly old school west coast IPA.
3.6 Their best beer I've had, not generally a huge ipa guy, but the body on this beer nicely balances the hops. 10 barrel portland
3.8 Pours slightly hazy amber with a thick, frothy eggshell head. Aroma delivers resiny hops, zesty citrus, and subtle fresh malt notes. Flavor features more hops, more citrus - definitely grapefruit with a little orange - and not-so-subtle malt now. Mouthfeel presents firm, full body and lively fizz, leading to a nicely hoppy finish. Have a glass of this Joe.
3.7 On draft at Dan's Downtown Tavern. The pour is a darker yellow with a thick white head and a ton of soapy lace as it falls down. The aroma is bitter and juicy. The hop on this one is pretty good. For it having Amarillo, I don't get a lot of the urea character, which is good. The bitterness and resin are nice with the tropical fruits coming through late to keep this thing a little balanced. The flavor is much of the same. The bitter pine resin and hops are nice, and the juiciness of the tropical fruits come through well. The maltiness on the back end comes through late, and prevents this one from being as good as it could be. The mouth feel is medium bodied with a light carbonation and a lingeringly resiny fruit on the back end. This is pretty good. 7 4 7 4 15
3.8 Ah yes, finally an Oregon beer! It has a pungent grapefruit aroma and a cloudy orange NE IPA kinda look going on. It has a pleasant fruity (grapefruit specifically again) taste and goes down relatively easy, not too bitter or hoppy, almost more like a grapefruit shandy or something. Good for wrapping up a whirlwind review streak with your boo boo before embarking upon a viewing of some yet to be determined televisual entertainments from a list in the front on the TV written on a business card.
3.8 I quite like this one haven't had much 10 barrel brewing Company beer bought this in Idaho.
3.5 On tap. Pours a nice golden color with a decent head. Aroma of grapefruit, light fruit and grain. taste of citrus trace of malt and grain. Nice bitterness that lingers into the finish. Medium body, crisp with bit of a fruity feel. Nice IPA without being too West Coast hopped.
3.4 Pours a nice looking carmel orange with a white head. Aroma of grassy hops, carmel malt, cracker, and vegetal scents. Taste is hop forward with grapefruit, pine, onion. Medium thick mouthfeel. Not too bad!
3.3 On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with a medium sized white head. Soft citrus on the nose, a bit of musk. Medium bodied, soft citrus, a bit of sweetness. Malt, a touch of toast, fruit, citrus, slow bitterness. Soft fruit into the finish. Slow bitterness.
3.5 Draught at the brewery. Pours clear orange with a medium, bubbly white head, medium retention. Aroma is heavy citrus and fruity hops with light cracker malt and then late grassy hop notes. Flavor is moderate citrus and fruity hops and bitterness with light cracker malt and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.3 On tap at Pretentious. Hazy orange, with fluffy white foam. Smells citrusy, with notes of tangerine and grapefruit.. Taste is sweeter than I expected, some toffee, then some citrus. A bit heavy on the palate.
3.8 This bottled brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a head of foamy white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a softly carbonated body hazy with floating particulate dark yellow brown colored body and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong hoppy aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.
3.6 Restrained aroma in a golden amber pour. Hop forward balance with light fruity body and finish. A pleasant brew - but nothing special.
2.8 12floz bottle, BBD?BOD? 04.19.2017, paid $1.50 unit equivalency, poured into a nonic glass, slight hazy gold, minimal head, plant stem aroma, medium-heavyish feel, burnt fibrous taste, meh.
3.6 Tons of hops and a commensurately bitter profile -- pine, grapefruit, orange, and green wood. Clean finish, quaffable. Nimble fruit, quenching and light palate.
4.2 Cloudy glinting orange color with a big head of blanketing white foam. Light touches of berry and tropical fruit from the mosaic hops shine through. A brisk pine forest dry bite in the finish.
3.5 (June 2016 - from notes). On tap. Nice fruity aroma and flavor. Moderate bitterness with above medium hop flavor. A bit more grapefruit bitterness in the aftertaste than I prefer.
2.7 Bottle at home, all alone. Aroma of burnt oranges, sugar, flowery hops. Hazy with a thick head. Medium bodied, fully carbonated. Astringent hops, turpentine, chemicals. Harsh finish. Not a fan.
