18th Street Hunter

18th Street Hunter

Here is a father’s toast to his son. Brewed with cocoa nibs and lactose, Hunter boasts a creamy texture and rich chocolate flavor. Vanilla, roast, and caramel sweetness are met with a bright hop bitterness. Complex enough to pair with dinner or dessert. Suave enough to skip the meal altogether. A chip off the old block, alright.

3.9 Cola brown pour with no head. Aroma of chocolate, lactose, roasted malt, and caramel. Sweet chocolate flavor with vanilla, lactose and some caramel with a roasted malt ending. Very nice!
3.4 One pint can. Pours an oily deep dark brown with a pencil thin brown head which is gone right away. Scents of chocolate a little coffee. Tastes very sweet and sticky upfront with a bitter French roast finish. Not great balance.
4.4 Can at home in Hackney - picked up at BrewDog Tower Hill. Pours seriously thick motor oil black with a foamy, fading beige head. Delicious beer, sweet but not at all excessive, with nice rich, ashy roasted malt character that balances out the dark sugars. Also notes of raisins, scorched earth, espresso. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation and velvety texture. Finishes with restrained boozy warmth, more ash, earth, baking cocoa, strong espresso, dried berries. Wow, hugely impressed with this one. Yeah it's hearty and has a lot of character, but it's the balance and drinkability that really draw me in.
4.3 Opaque black beer with a medium dark brown head. Medium aroma; taste starts medium/heavy sweet and ends slightly bitter and dry. Cream, chocolate, mocha, roasted malts and coffee. 7/5/9/5

4.0 440ml can from Boxbeers.dk. Poured pitch black with a thin brown head. Roasty, chocolaty malty, some tobacco in aroma. Milky smooth, vanilla notes, roasted malts and some tobacco. I like it that it's not very sweet despite the vanilla and the milky wibes. Dry long finish.
