21st Amendment Toaster Pastry

21st Amendment Toaster Pastry

Toaster Pastry is an absolutely fantastic India-Style Red Ale, clocking in at 7.6% ABV and 74 IBU. Biscuit malts give the beer a slightly nutty, crust-like flavor, while pale and dark crystal malts create the mouthfeel and flavors reminiscent of strawberry jam. Calypso and other experimental hops give this ruby ale a welcome bite, plus a few more in the hop back for a toasty-sweet aroma.

3.8 Can split with Kevin on December 30th, 2016. Caramelly and piney aroma. Medium bitterness, definitely a bite on this one. Medium body, sticky.
3.8 Orange with white head. Aroma is bready malt and resiny hops. Flavor is sweet malt and resiny hops. Medium body with smooth carbonation. solid
3.6 Pours up a deep golden color with a nice off white head. Aroma is hoppy, mildly sweet with malts. Taste is really nice with big malty caramel followed by a good dose op hops for a long finish. Nothing about this reminds me of a toaster pastry, but good none the less.
3.9 A big resiny red IPA with loads of caramel malt to keep those resiny hops at bay. Super hoppy, but only lightly bitter. Some berry notes. Pours deep red cedar with tons of lacy beige head. Crisp and medium-light bodied.
2.8 Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured an orange-white color with a large soapy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was bitter with leafy piney hops and crystal malt. The flavor was bitter with fruity hops, pine, caramel and crystal malt. Long hoppy finish. Medium body. Meh.
3.8 Slightly hazy copper red with a solid white head. Aroma and taste are both strangely strawberry jam, with a mild hop buzz, and english fermentation notes into the finish. $1.7
3.3 12 oz single can shared, purchased at Bottles & Bitters at Sloan’s Lake. Resinous, light piney hops balanced by caramel malts over a medium body. Decent.
3.9 On tap at Eureka, Mountain View. Fruity resin aroma with some caramel. Toasty, nutty, caramel, with hops and bitterness.
3.8 12oz can. Pours red with an off white head. Very tasty IPA with a bit more malt sweetness than the typical. The caramel malt notes worked well with the fruity hop notes. I’m definitely getting more of this stuff.
3.8 Tap @ Flying Pie: Dark gold color with a juniper hop aroma and a musty super hop flavor followed by grapefruit pith aftertaste. Tasty!
4.4 Slightly hazy Amber with a glowing rosey hue with a sticky ivory lasting head. Bright floral and leafy dank hops on the nose with a vibrant caramalt and red malt toastiness. Delightful flavor that’s crystal-biscuity with some lightly boozy caramalt tones, with vibrant earthy leafy hops and a kiss of citrus piney tones. Beautiful balance and hop depth with pleasant red ale sweetness, perhaps also a wee touch of strawberry near the back. Gentle booze heat.
3.7 Can from New Beer Distributors, Manhattan, New York, USA. An amber/red coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Hoppy, malty, fruity, caramel aroma. Tastes similar, hoppy, malty, caramel and a definite strawberry note in there. I rather enjoyed this offering from 21st Amendment, wish I’d bought more back across the pond.
3.6 Pours a reddish amber with a rich khaki head. Toasty malt nose with a strong hop character. Very healthy flavor profile. True to style, but at the upper end of the scale.
3.2 Tap atbStags Head not many ticks on tap today. Dirty brownish red foamy head. Nose is strawberry and sweet malt. Tastes of strawberry, other berry, malt, fruit punch, some biscuits. I get the whole toaster pasty thing but not something I eat regularity or particularly want in a beer.
5.0 Upon first review I give this a perfect rating for uniqueness. The aroma is strawberry with malt flavors and aroma that make this a true pastry in a can that is beer! The luxurious garner color in the appearance is topped off by a plush off-white head. A real treat for an IPA style red.
3.7 Growler form Avondale beer growler. Aggressive hop aroma. Big wafting fruit Esthers. Sweet caramel big malt body. Aggressive hop flavor and finish. Old skool west coast hoppy red.
4.2 Drank this from a pint glass, poured from a can, thank you Bobby. This nice red IPA, has a nice, not overly sweet malt base. Awesome brew!
3.8 Aroma: malty grain with some pine, citrus hop aroma. Appearance: clear red brown pour with white head and some thin lacing. Flavor: Sweet malt with berries and some subtle hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Some crystal malt notes. Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. More malt forward IPA with only subtle hop bitterness.
3.2 Tall can pours clear red with substantial foam. Fruit and biscuit doesn’t scream toaster pastry which is good, but still the overall combination and bitter finish isn’t much to my liking.
3.9 Pours very hazy reddish amber with very little head. Nose is sharp floral hops with a little amber malt. Flavor is a solid balance of bitter hops and a fairly sweet malt. Finish is bittersweet and sticky with lots of lingering hops. Don’t understand the name but its a solid RIPA.
3.7 can @ House of 1000 Beers / New Kensington PA --- Aroma of malt and berry jam with hops. Clear dark ruby amber color, 3" beige head that lasts quite awhile, streaks of lace. Taste is sweet malt that moves smoothly through a medium carbonated swallow, to assertive, but, not overwhelming hops. Malt and hops finish. No berry in the taste. A balanced, enjoyable brew.
2.3 APPEARANCE- reedish, dark amber hue color. Nice white head with litrle lacing. NOSE- medium hop (not fruity/floral nor resin). FLAVOR- slightly sweet flavor. Some hints of biscuity maltiness. NOTES- pop tart is not the first thing I think about.
3.1 Ripe citrus fruits and peel; red orange color; orange hard candy with some jammy flavors, bittersweet and dry through the finish; medium body and average mouthfeel; pretty good, but not great and definitely not reminiscent of a toaster pastry. 12 fl oz can from Country Fresh in Cincinnati, Ohio.
2.2 Poured a red color with a beige head. Aroma was of caramel, nutty, stale hips. Flavor similar, sweet malt and stale. Bleh.
3.7 Draught at Golden Gate Tap Room. Dark copper color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops, rye, pine, a bit of mango and grass. Bitter finish with citrus, hops, rye, pine and a bit of resin. Excellent IPA.
3.8 Can. Pours clear mahogany with a creamy, 2-finger, beige, fully lasting head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of caramel and pine. Starts out lightly sweet and evolves to a long bitter sticky finish. A bit too much carbo which is distracting. Well balanced. I’ll have it again.
4.1 Strawberry aroma, and a nice subtle strawberry taste. I get it. Bitter. Crusty. Starts off sweet than dries out, Thx Joey.
3.7 Mahogany appearance with a large beige head and light lacing. Aroma off light toast, shortbread and caramel malts. Taste diverts from the expectations of the aroma and lays down a solid foundation of spicy, floral, piney hops. Aftertaste stays on a bitter, hoppy course. Solid, balanced offering.
4.1 Pours deep amber in color with a medium off white head. Aroma is sweet with mango and pilsener-like malts. Taste is really nice with a mango-tropical flavor up front followed by various evolving grades of bitterness that kinda dance all over the place and go for a long finish. The mid does have a toasty quality to it as well. Like it!
3.8 Sample at the OTR Beerfest during Cincinnati Beer Week. Hazy copper color with a medium ivory white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of citrus, berries and hops. Medium body with flavors of citrusy hops, strawberry and crackery malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
