3 Fonteinen Armand'4 Oude Geuze Winter

3 Fonteinen Armand'4 Oude Geuze Winter

Armand’4 Winter Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

4.5 Bottle thanks to Craig. Pours dark orange with no head. Low carbonation, medium mouthfeel. Super fruit forward. Mild sourness. Horse, fresh cut grass, decaying leaves.
3.9 Thanks J!! Pours a hazy tangerine color with an of-white head. The smell is mineral and some funk. The taste is tart, mineral, some apricot with a dry and crisp end. Slightly over average carbonation level. Nice.
4.2 2016-11-01, 9-3-8-4-17=41 Cloudy dull light amber color, flat, carbonation is gone. I like the aroma, but it’s mainly cheesy. The mouthfeel is acidic and getting lightly oily; good cellar character, horseblanket, some orange peel, and astringency, but the missing carbonation plays negatively. Still a very enjoyable beer. 2012-07-14, corked bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels, 9-4-8-4-17=42 Cloudy amber color, with good sized head, persistent. The aroma is fresh and very pungent, with dominating cellar smell, cobwebs, and lemon peel, and late manure. The first impression of the flavor is about citrus fruits, lemon and pink grapefruit; the mouthfeel is dry and acidic, it seems very young and fresh, well carbonated; still, it’s full of Bretts, leading to an astringent and very sour final. An aggressive and lively Gueuze.
3.7 750ml bottle @ Alex’s. Pours a slight hazy amber with zero carbonation. Nose of barnyard funk, ripe fruits, light grape, and some sesame?. Flavour is funky, fruity, musty and cobwebs. Thank you Alex for the four seasons
3.8 Bottle - Very light funk. Cloudy gold with a small frothy head. Light funk and very mellow and some tartness. The mildest of the three, not bad, just not as exceptional as the rest.
3.8 Pours a copper colour with barely any head. Aroma of funk and cheese. Tastes very funky, with little acidity on the balance. Bit of petrol flavour too. This bottle is almost flat, but still very good. My least favourite of the seasons, but could be due to a less than stellar bottle. Thanks for these fiulijn!
4.4 750 ml bottle at Gueuze tasting 2016, Ulfborg. Light hazy golden orange color with off white head. Yeasty aroma, barnyard, dusty, wood, grapes, citrusy fruity, orange and lemon. Sweet and acidic taste like aroma, funky tart fruity. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Aroma has leathery funk, vanilla, oak, sweet, almost caramel malt, moldy, wet leaves, blue cheese, vinegar. Taste is tart, citric sour, dry tannic, light sweetish, quite some moldy umami, and a light bitter dryness. High carbonation and a smooth, oily but light body. Really good!

Light-medium bodied, tart on the palate with a long complex finish that is only moderately dry. Taste is lemonade, white wine, dried summer fruits, candied kumquat.
4.4 Bottle graciously shared by Kermis, thanks man, this one has eluded me for some time. Pours murky orange gold with medium white head and random lacing. Nose is dusty oak, leather, lemon skin, and blanket. Flavor is beautiful and aged lemon geuze, leather, blind dust, earthy minerals. Fantastic at 5 years old. Tasty meh, try dis
4.1 Jim/John is back tasting. Bottle courtesy of kermis. Murky ochre, offwhite head. Apricot, mineral, milky, white raisans, grapes, hay, cobwebs, little dust, faint woodglue. Medium smooth sour, light salty. Creamy silky and minerallike texture. Enjoying this!
4.1 Bottle shared at the John/Jim tasting. Moldy on the cork which explosively popped out across the room as it came loose. Cloudy amber with an off white head. Aroma of dusty funk, dry cellar, cobwebs, leather, lactic touchs, yoghurt, barnyard, light citrus and tart light fruit. Flavour is light sweet and moderate sour. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Nice, but certainly not up there with some of the better 3 Fonteinen gueuzes
3.8 Bottle shared at John almost got killed by a cork tasting, thanks to kermis for sharing. Hazy dark golden, almost copper with big light beige head. Lots of hay, farmyard, dank cellar, especially on the nose. In the taste there’s some lactic and yoghurt notes, dead leaves, some sherry, quite earthy. Under medium sour with light lactic sweetness throughout. Medium bodied with slight sticky feel and champagne-like carbonation. A bit disappointing to be honest.
3.5 Bottle at the Jim / John is back tasting, Den Haag, April 2016. Courtesy of Kermis. Poured a murky medium amber with frothy white head. The aroma is big yeast, doughy biscuit, tart citrus. The flavour is moderate sour with a sharp acidic citrus palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation.
3.9 bottle shared at the JimJohn is back tasting courtesy of Kermis. Thin creamy off white head. Cloudy amber pour. Funky aroma.
4.3 Bottle, thanks for sharing! Pours a cloudy earthy orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is funk forward with a decent amount of menthol and some dry tart fruits and a bit of oak. Flavor has a nice acid note with a good amount of menthol and some earthy funk and a touch of oak.
4.4 Bottle @ The Levi Tasting. Thanks, Levi! Slightly hazy light Amber pour with a small head. Nose is wonderfully expressive. Massive barnyard aroma. Bucolic splendor. Manure, barnyard funk. Light lemon. Flavor is wonderful. Sort tartness. Light pollen. Acid and brett working well together. Lightly sweet. Easy drinking, effervescent carb. Fantastic. This is amazing right now.
4.8 Bottle share by Caleb. Hold color, very heavily carbonated. Sour and earthy. Some cheese. Full of flavor. An earthy character comes out as I drink more of it. Complex, sour, excellent beer.
4.4 Bottle shared by Levi and Tim, huge thanks for sharing this! Cloudy dark golden pour. Great carbonation still. Aroma is huge funk. Taste is amazing, nice funk with the fruit. Just amazing!
4.3 Aroma is nice with some light citrus notes. Medium light herbal notes with a light mint note. Some light stone fruit character and a bit of oak notes. Pours a hazy, golden copper color with a very large, white head that shows good retention as it recedes to the edges. Medium light lacing and small legs. About as dark as Herfst. Flavor is nice with a good herbal character. Light citrus notes with a touch of stone fruit. Good oak notes. Nice funk with good earthiness and herbal notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high to high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer with great herbal and citrus notes. Probably my second favorite season but its very close to Herfst.
4.0 A: Light brown/deep orange with a huge white head N: Grapefruit, pine, oak T: Blood orange, lime, stable, funky! O: Very nice funkyness! Well balanced.
4.6 Bottle. Pours dank yellow and flat. Big funk nose. bitter flavors declining but still super smooth. Can’t wait to try all four together soon.
4.4 750 ml bottle sampled December 2015. Unclear orange body with a fine white head. Wonderful aroma with smooth and delicate farmhouse, leather, acidic fruit and barnyard. Similar smoothness in flavor, it’s a classic Geuze, still remarkable smooth and balanced. It tastes better than the three others, but that must be seen in the context that they were tasted freshly.
3.9 Bottle split at the Armand Seasons mini tasting, 01/12/15. Hazed rich amber with a decent beige covering that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is big wood must, spice, acidic tones, funk, damp hay, wet labrador towel, tarte fruit. Taste comprises funk, bitter citric shreds, acidic rise, grandads shed, musty wood, dank tones, pissy citrics. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid geueze, ageing well, but probably my least favourite of the series, decent none the less.
4.0 750, capped. Thanks, M! Pours a hazy medium amber-orange with a loose white head that billows and settles. Tangy citric nose, soft funk, very balanced. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Funky, lemony mid palate, very beautifully coherent and integrated. Long mild finish.
4.0 750 mL bottle. Bottled 4/22/2010. Unknown original review date. Big head, orange body. Hazy. A little bit of lacing and brief retention. Smell is mild citrus. Acidic lemon and a medium funk. Less intense than the others. Taste is really tart. Similar to Zomer in it’s acidity. A little vinegar. This one has the herbal notes again, but less so than the Zomer. Puckering finish. Not as dry, but still quite sour. Less complex. Medium carbonation. Still a good gueuze, but the least impressive of the four. Feels like the flavors could go wrong at any moment, but it stays the course.
