4.1 Bottle via and shared with oakbluff. Slightly opaque gold in colour with spritzy carbonation. Aromas are unmistakably 3F with elements of funk, lemon, cobwebs and musty basement, along with notes of balsam wood and a hint of wine must. Intensely funky and acidic in the mouth with an interesting mixed berry (blackberry-raspberry), soft grain, and driftwood combination. It has aged very well.
4.7 Golden pour, high carbonation. Nose is leather, vinous, white grapes (I know it used red malvasia grapes). Taste is tart grapes, leather, caramel. Light crisp mouthfeel. Great bottle, got very lucky with this one.
4.1 750 mL bottle. Bottle date has rubbed off, but I understand this to be a 2003 bottle. Originally reviewed 10/20/2014. Deep golden orange body. Mostly clear with a big white head. Thick collar as it settles. Smell has a very faint semblance of a generic fruitiness. Nothing I would pick out as grape. Juts a bit fruitier than a 3F OG. White pepper, as is typical of 3F. Kinda funky. Quite oaky. Taste is fruity up front. Still, just a generic fruitiness. Oak is sharp right up front, too. Sour. An oaky, peppery sourness. A little bit of oxidation, too. High carbonation. Medium body. A great beer even if the fruit is almost completely gone. Oxidation is beginning to creep in, though.
4.1 750 ml bottle to stemmed Cantillon glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; a somewhat hazy orange with fizzy bubbly eggshell head. Smells good too; semi-sweet, oaky, and funky with a nice mild grape presence. Tastes like it smells with a pleasantly lively medium-bodied mouthfeel. Damp basement and barnyard funk. Great stuff that I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to try.
4.7 Bottle at home. Pours clear dark yellow to orange, fine small head. Incredible long legs. Gentle aroma of finely evolved geuze, with the typical 3 Fonteinen gentle funk, quite some oak and Pinot and Riesling notes. Light body, very fine carbonation, and then the soft touc of the malts. Very rich finish. Taste is sweet malts, oak and a hint of semi-sweet Riesling wines from the Rhine region. The carbonation is the finest ever experienced in a geuze, and even a beer.
4.3 Some new ratings found back. Gladly shared this amazing bottle of lambic with Mathieu87. APPEARANCE: light clouded blond beer, small rather unstable off white head. NOSE: sour, vinegar, fruity, quite funky. TASTE: very sour, funk, fruity, very balanced, nice in general! Quite impossible to say though that it’s grapes... Very much enjoyed it, but probably very much like a good aged geuze!
4.0 Bottle - Pours light amber. Funky nose with hints of grapes and lemons. The taste is lemons, peppery, grapes, and sourness. Very tasty!!!
3.9 Pours golden yellow with a ice whitish gray head. Aroma is a little too sublte, bringing spritzy grapes lightly sweetened and balanced with a bit of tartness. The flavor brings sweet and light grapey carbonation that goes down really smooth.
4.7 Aroma is rather funky with a really nice earthy, barnyard note. Lots of herbal, woodsy character. Nice acidity with hints of grape must and oak tannins. Pours a fairly clear golden orange with a large pillowy white head that recedes to a film on the edges. Flavor has less funky earthy notes, but the charter is definitely still there. Lots of bright citrus with some medium light grape akin notes. Light oak with faint tropical and stone fruit. Light mineral quality. Soft acidity. Mouthfeel is medium light with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Soft carbonation. Overall, a way better beer than I was expecting with more grape character than I thought there would be. After hearing from others who had tried the beer, this was a great bottle. One of my favorite guezes.
1.4 Bottle at my husband’s tasting. Smells like sour vomit. Looks like beer. Tastes like five lemon sour faces. You could get some many delicious beverages for what this beer cost. EDIT: This is ineedbeer’s wife’s account. I don’t like beer, but I thought my reviews would be funny next to my husband’s.
3.8 Sampled at a Halloween party. Nice funk to begin this with smooth but really interesting oak notes. Some lemon and vinous effects. Earthiness and wild yeast.
3.8 Amber coloured and unclear. Has a white head, medium duration. Heavy acidic aroma, sulfur, gunpowder, fruits. Heavy acidic flavor, more fruity notes, grapes, sweet too. Creamy, lightly astringent texture.
3.9 light sour fruit, golden, hazy, white foam, light sweetness, medium sourness, medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, nice sour fruit finish.
4.0 Bottle. Frothy White fair mostly deminishing head. Dark yellow colour. Fantastic impressive aroma. Great sour flavor. Long moderate sour finish. Creamy palate. Nice.
4.0 Backlog, bottle at Green Lion Inn 2011. Wood and barnyard, som hay and yeast and a hint of sweetness.
4.1 Bottle @ Too many geuze’s only one toilet, Ulfborg 2012. Clear golden of color with a white head. An aroma of oak, sweets, dry and weak raisins. A flavor of raisins, sour, dry and weak sweets.
4.2 Huge thanks to Kramer for sharing this one with us during his christmas party this year. A - Pours golden yellow with a fizzy one finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving little trails of lace on the sides of the glass. S - Smells of strong must, typical 3F horse blanket funk, earthen minerals, very light fruitiness from the grapes and some minimal sweetness. This one smells incredible, easily the best part of this beer. T - Starts off much like the nose with the barnyard funk and grape skin must quickly being joined by some mild fruitiness, light sweetness and dry oak. Finish is pretty dry, lingering long after the finish. Very gueuze like in all honesty. M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Spritzy feel, no overly sour, more funky making it really easy to consume. O - Really nice lambic, just not one of the best ever. I would never turn it down again but I wouldn’t trade my entire cellar for it either. I had been looking to try this one for a long time and I am incredibly grateful to Kramer for sharing it with us. Thanks buddy!
4.2 3/XI/13 - 75cl bottle @ Bobochamp’s place - bottled: X/2003 (2013-1039) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle! Little cloudy orange to grapefruit pink coloured beer, aery big white head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: sourish start, typical bretta nose, lemony, fruity smell. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sour start, lemony, wood notes, spicy, nice fruitiness, grape skin bitterness (tannins). Aftertaste: bit peppery, dry puckering sour, lemony, tannins, spicy, clean dry finish. Is it still a fruit beer? Not really. Is it still good? Hell yeah! More of a regular geuze instead of fruit beer, but a very very good one, then!
4.5 Notes from backlog. High level of acidity, with strong fruity notes and a complex and lingering aftertaste.
3.9 75cl, Vintage 2003, as 3 Fonteinen Malvasia rosso, retired exclusive brew, with green grapes, thx alot to kraddel!, very complex sour fruit brew, sour/fruity and slightly woody/vinous, balanced, cloudy, small head, very good brew, ’This (mellow and still fruity) sample aged very well... Thanks kraddel for sharing!’
4.0 Bottle, kindly shared by J Beatty at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, 26/09/13. Hazed orange amber with a moderately sized off white head. Nose is tarte fruit, dank wood, light balsams, funk, soured grape skins. Taste comprises vinous fruit, dank wood, dry rot, earthy, bitter peach notes, grape skins, pithy fruit, light balsams, cobwebs. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry tarte finish. Fairly full on and top notch sour tones to this one, great stuff.
4.3 2000 vintage Druiven Geuze, Bottle @ Akkurat. This beer has developed beautifull and is a great example of how good grape lambics can develop with time.
4.3 2000 Vintage. 750mL bottle at Akkurat, pours a cloudy golden with a very large foamy white head. Aroma is extremely funky, full of barnyard funk, slight leather notes and maybe a hint of grape skins, but very far back -- basically this is all barnyard funk on the nose. Flavour is similarly very funky, with loads of barnyard funk, maybe some very soft reminiscent of grape skins, and some horse blanket. Very highly carbonated, with a hugely funky flavour profile and non hint of the high ABV. Finishes very funky and maybe with some dry grape skins. The carbonation is perhaps a little too lively, concealing some of the complexities. Another awesome gueuze from the master blenders.
4.4 Bottle 750ml [2003] The cork launched almost as high as a North-Korean rocket. No casualties. Intense carbonation. Pours nice golden (hazy) with medium white head. Aroma is of extreme barnyard, horseblanket, some fruits, flowers. Taste is sweet, barnyard, fruits. Palate: Perfect balance sweet/sour/acidic. Overall: Stunning preservation for a 10 yo beer. Dangereously drinkable. Impressive.
4.4 Bottle (750 ml). Shared by Julien, Pier-Luc and Benoît, huge thanks! As stated in a couple of reviews, the cork barely exploded. Straw color with a quickly disappearing white head. Aroma is of barnyard, horse blanket, floral notes and barely perceptible fruits/grapes notes. Gueuze aroma at his best. Taste is still a bit sweet with moderate sourness and grapes notes. Mouthfeel is dry and fresh. Well carbonated. Super refreshing. Right now, it tastes more like a Gueuze than a fruited lambic... but a great Gueuze!
4.3 Bottle, 2003, thanks to GT2. Ejected the cork with a loud pop, no carbonation worries. Lightly hazy peach-gold pour with white head. Aroma dominated by notes of funk, really horse-blanket, hay, grassy aromas, really floral. Taste is really sour but accompanied by a well balanced and quite pleasant fruitiness. Palate is really dry, well carbed, surprisingly fresh. Excellent gueuze, still at its very best.
4.5 75cl bottle at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Cork exploded and almost killed someone in the pub. Little gusher as well. It pours a hazy orange/strawberry colour with a large off-white head. Foam vanishes fairly quickly. Aroma of tart red fruits, grapes, barnyard funk which we could feel 1 metre away immediately after the explosion. Taste is packed with tart grapes and barnyard funk. Some citrus zest and dust. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Finishes dry in the aftertaste. Siblimely balanced as all Armand creatures, this one in particular has seen the fruit character fade right to the point where sourness and fruitiness are perfectly balanced. Outstanding.
4.9 17/04/2012 750ml bottle, bought @ Les Vignerons, then shared @ Brasserie 4:20.
