3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Cuvée Armand & Gaston

3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Cuvée Armand & Gaston

NB! all A&G blends belong under this entry, except blends with honey and vintage labeled.

Usually blend of 1 year old, 2 year old, and 3 year old lambic using 100% 3 Fonteinen lambic.

The main difference between Oude Geuze Cuvée Armand & Gaston and regular Oude Geuze is that Armand & Gaston contains only lambic brewed by 3 Fonteinen. In contrast the regular Oude Geuze may contain lambics from various lambic producers (Lindemanns and Boon for example).

Note: ABV varies.

4.3 0,375 litre Bottle, from Vinmonopolet Lillehammer. Dark Golden with little head. Sour, funky, Fruity, acidic, sweetness, Smooth!
4.4 This is a gem. Yellow with a slight rosey look mixed in. Nose is barnyard, funk, lemongrass, light woods. White grape peel, yeast, salt, grass, lemon zest... Dry and delicious!
4.1 Bottle (Sep 27, 2018 bottling, Blend #80, 6.5%). Head is initially average sized, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), moderately yeasty (barnyard), with notes of lemon, crabapple, gooseberry, oak, bandage. Flavor is moderately sweet, heavily acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, heavily acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, moderately astringent. Very nice stuff, much like the regular Oude Geuze, but more barnyardy Brett effects and maybe a bit less aromatically complex/enticing. But that's probably more due to the age of the bottle (this thing is already 3 years from bottling, argh...sorry, not a believer in older=better when it comes to lambic...there's a sweet spot after a year or two in the bottle but I really think they usually just get duller and more horsey/barny after that, just as Orval does). Unusually nice appearance for a lambic (lasting heads are not common), and the mouthfeel is nicely fluffy too (although pretty astringent). I'm admittedly not into lambic anymore, but it's nice to see Armand is still killin' it.
4.4 I'm sippin’ on a Drie Fonteinen Watchin' the tide roll away, ooh I'm just sippin’ on a Drie Fonteinen Wastin' time. Opens with a firecracker pop. Amber liquid with medium high carbonation, and rich barnyard and pineapple Brettanomyces aromatics. Medium plus acidity. Medium body with light illusory caramel sweetness. Easy to drink. Well done, Armand. Well done.
3.9 75cl bottle via trade with Garrold, season 17|18 blend no. 29, bottled 12/03/18. Slightly hazed golden amber, foamy white head. Aroma of funky fruity notes, wood, musty citrus. Taste has plenty of funk, woody, sour, tangy lemon, tart apple skin, some sweetness, tiniest hint of earthiness. Medium body.
3.4 Bottle 37,5cl a cloudy copper beer with huge head for a gueuze. Nose on on wild yeast, gueuse, but this version has grapefruit like touch. Aroma on the same, usual 3 fontainen but with this wild notes on grapefruit I don't like.
4.4 Golden color with a small white head that left light lacing on the glass. Funky, barnyard, earth, peach, wood, lemon, sour finish.

4.0 Bouteille (750ml, assemblage #2, seizoen 2016/17): Hazy, orangey-golden coloured, small loose head, astonishingly quite stable, moderate - but distinctive - sourish-fruity musty-cellary nose with aromas of apples (...or apple-vinegar) and - surprise, surprise - balancing honey; robust dry (nearly) more bitter than sour flavour, still some sweet spots detectable, medium bodied and a bit fizzy; lingering dry sour citric(apples, too), bitter and honeyish finish. Fine and moreish stuff, as good as expected...
4.4 Huge ultra dense & fine, just yellowish head over faintly veiled bright orange beer. Saddlesoap, horseblanket, lactic acid, sour flowers, lemon, orangerind. Sour, lactic, lemon, horseblanket, sour exotic fruit, Again sour flozers and -fruit. Old wood. Tart, acidthinning and -burn, but mainly veyr dry. Good carbonation, spritzy. Excellent. Outstanding. 'nuff said. Earlier Rating: 6/12/2016 Total Score: 4.2 Average of 2 separate bottlings, 06/10 and 07/10 Explosive gushing to fast gone off-white head over fully hazy orange-ochre beer. Grapes, lots of horseblanket/leathersoap, lemon, lemonbalm, old soap, and one bottling quite some sulphur in the nose. Ultra-dry, strawlike, fruity, dried lemonpeel, lemonjuice and horseblanket retronasal. Dry-out effect, very active carbonation. Still young in character - (too) lively. Excellent and especially promising.
4.5 6.5% - Assemblage n.70 - Seizoen 18/19 Aroma has fruity esters, gooseberry and apple, barnyard funk. Beautiful pour: amber, slightly hazy, large fluffy head, white, rockl, high retention, some dots of lacing. Tart, fruity, stone fruit, gooseberry, apple, green citrus, barnyard funk. Delicious. Creamy, smooth, high carbonation, easy to drink, refreshing, some astringency. Lovely lambic, as solid as always with this brewery.
4.2 7.1%Assemblage 13 seizoen 18/19. Bottled 11/12/18. Much fiercer than I remember the regular version to be, but very complex and good.
3.8 Bottle from 2019, 7% ABV. Hazy amber, thick off-white head. Lots of funk, yeast. Stone fruit, maybe apricot. Dry, umami, prominent tartness. Lively carbonation. Great!
Pura clase. Mezcla nº66, temporada 17/18.
4.2 Gyönyörű, mély borostyán színű, kicsi, villámgyorsan eltűnő habbal. Savanykás, gabonás, animális illatok. Íze hozza az illata ígéreteit, savanykás, gabonás, leheletnyit édeskés animális ízek. Kissé fanyar, kiváló, frissítő ital.
5.0 Bottle, creamy full bodied geuze
4.1 Rocznik 16|17, blend no 18. Derka, nuty funky, sianko, zero kapusty, wysycenie wysokie, cierpkie ale bardzo szybko ustępuje słodyczy.
4.3 Rocznik 16/17 blend nr 18. Finisz wytrawny. Jedno z najlepszych geuze jakie piłem.
2.0 Sauer
4.5 Cloudy, light amber color and a white head. Tart nose, grapes, vinegear. Nice carbonation, tart, vineous, sour-fruity, faint funky. long dry finish
4.2 Similar to the straight oude geuza, but some extra fizz and funk. Personally I still like it, but do not see it as an improvement. Clear yellow orange with sediment that can be avoided with a good pour. Reminds me of a farm. Nice and sour.
2.9 First of all: tons of foam. Too much. Moving on: white fruit aromas, especially gooseberry, some brett. Flavorwise: medium sour, somewhat vinuous, sour fruity finish. Overall: I expected more
3.9 Beer Cartel bottle (10-Sep-20) Barnyard, light earthy, grapefruit and light funk brett aroma. Hazy orange, slight pink tinge and small white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Ripe tropical and light citrusy brett flavour. Lingering dry woody finish and classic sour bretty aftertaste.
4.3 Bottle. Golden body with a fine off-white head. Aroma is just heavenly, citric fruity, cellar notes, lemon and funky brett. Taste is super smooth and nice as well. This is damn close to perfection, this is was Geuze is all about. So tasty, so balanced and so smooth. Just a little tiny hint of something edgy in the aftertaste, not able to put my finger on exactly what it is, but anyway not important.
4.0 Blend no. 48, 28/19 season. Very well carbonated, popped like a champagne cork. Substantial lacy, ivory coloured head, which settled down to a thin line of foam. Hazy, orangey-yellow colour. Strong fuzzy aroma like an old electric heater, which mellows after a time to sour fruits and gooseberries. Smooth sour tang with a good tingle on the tongue. Excellent tangy gueze.
