(512) IPA

(512) IPA

The (512) India Pale Ale is a big, aggressively dry hopped American IPA with smooth bitterness (~65 IBU) balanced by medium maltiness. 100% US malted grains, loads of hops, and great Austin water create an ale with apricot and vanilla aromatics that lure you in for more.

3.2 Draught at the Banger's Sausage House, Austin, TX. Clear deep golden color with a small white head. Some hops, spices, sweetness and malt in the aroma. The flavor is sweet hops, mild bitterness, spices and malt.
3.1 Cask at Draught House Austin, TX, 27.4.16. Hazy amber. Cocoa cream, sweet malty aroma, bitter, dry-ish, mild citrus taste. Medium body, bitter, a little earthy finish and soft carbonation.
3.5 Clear dark copper, off-white lacing in drink rings. Hoppy aroma, bitter in taste, long lasting aftertaste. Some vanilla notes. (Galveston 201605)
3.9 (En fût au Whip In): Corps moelleux porté sur l’orange confite, légèrement minéral et d’une certaine façon unidimensionnel mais néanmoins savoureux.
3.6 Pours cloudy orange amber with low white head. Aroma of peach, grapefruit, light citrus. Taste is mellow fruit sweet followed by a medium bitter finish. Light, smooth body with soft carbonation.
3.5 Nonic pint draft at the British Beverage Company in Dallas, Texas. The pour is a hazed orange golden with a foamy white head. The aroma is a soft resin, floral hop along with a bit of caramel malt. The taste is the resin floral hop of the nose, balance with the fresh caramel malt and also picks up some nut and pine. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and a clean dry finish. Solid IPA.
3.3 Draught, small creamy head, quite clear rusty orange color, toasty grainy aroma with yherbs and yeast, biscuity malty flavor with a strong herbal bitterness and a hint of citrus. Pleasant drinkable IPA, just a little bit heavy.
3.7 On tap at Fado, Austin. Clear dark copper with a small white head that lingers and leaves lots of lace. Strong pine nose with caramel and honey. Light sweet toffee supporting a medium pine bitterness with some citrus. Medium mouth with average carbonation.
3.1 Tap at Via 313 Austin. Hazy copper pour. Nice lacy head. Aroma is citrus, light tropical fruit. Taste is floral, light tropical fruits, caramel. Medium body and carbonation. Average bitterness. Easy to drink, but nothing really unique.
3.8 Rated based on notes taken 22 Sep 2012 -- zero notes, just a rating. 5.0 on untapped means business. But I have to adjust for inflation.
3.6 The Esquire Tavern, San Antonio, draft. Copper, cloudy, tan head, good lacing, and beautiful. Subtly sweet and very drinkable. ABV is masked by ease of consumption.
3.5 Tap at Petrol Station. Murky lighter orange pour with a white clingy head. Oddly mild aroma given the big fruity hop taste in this. Quite good - wish the aromatics were stronger.
3.7 Tap, orange pour white head, nose and taste are super citrus, some piney notes, not bad at all
3.5 Pours a clear deep gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma of hops and fruit and floral. Tastes similar. Decent bitter finish. Medium body.
3.1 Pours with a thin dense white head into pint with a dark golden color. Aroma is brighter more floral hops. Taste is on the bitter end with a sweet body. Light bitter aftertaste. The bitterness is pretty generic. Medium body with medium carb.
3.2 Tap at Little Woodrow?s in Austin. Commonshawn present. Appearance is standard IPA. Minimal head. Aroma of hops and citrus but muted. Taste is pretty straightforward. Hops are the star with some citrus notes. Good bite. Smooth and easy to drink. Forgettable but not bad.
3.5 Tap at little woodys in Austin with commonmac. Light copper with thick white head and decent lacing. Mild hop aroma. Nice balance of slight fruit and clean hop. Good mouthfeel. Fairly mild overall but solid.
3.2 On tap at Stubbs, Austin Pours a clearish light amber with a small white head. Sweet with a light dryness. Light hoppy aromas of spruce. Tiny hints of brown sugar. Medium bodied. Medium to soft carbonation. Light dry finish.
3.6 Draft. Amber golden. Floral and Citrus hops. Slightly bitter. Slightly sweet malt. Decent.
3.5 Dark amber. Lightly syrupy in the West Coast style. Big grapefruit and pine resin flavor. A good IPA. Tap at The Holy Grail.
3.8 On tap. Hazy golden orange with white head. Smell is citrus and pine. Taste is light caramel with fruit and tropical fruit followed by hoppy pine and citrus and floral. Dry with medium bitterness and low carbonation.
4.6 4.68/5 rDev +14.1% Well... I wrote this from München, while drinking a great Andechs Dopplebock Dunkel, and all I can say is I miss this beer. I am IPA biased so take this in consideration. This beer has the right combination of citrusy hoppiness and aroma. Most drinkable beer I have tasted (again for my taste). There are one-bottle (one-glass) beers that may rate higher in taste, but can you drink three glasses... Never seen it in bottle so there is your excuse to go to Austin.
4.0 Decided to try a local IPA on draft, this was good. Not too bitter but a nice aftertaste, went down smooth and was a good local beer (was in Houston)
4.0 This is one of my favorite readily available IPAs from Austin. 512 makes one of the most reliable out there, wish it was available in cans or bottles. It pours a nice deep golden color, with just enough pine and citrus on the nose. On the palate it is somewhat floral, but the malt is present enough to balance it out. A solid IPA.
3.6 Draft - Peach and huge tropical fruits. Cloudy orange with a thin beige head. Perfumy and fruity with a light bitterness. Very fruity and fun.
2.8 On tap at Hay Merchant Houston. I had heard great things about this, but honestly was underwhelmed. It was maltier than I like my IPAs. Not a great aroma. Just ok.
3.2 Draft into a shaker. Hoppy and sweet aroma. Slightly cloudy gold with thin white head. Nicely balanced. Hoppy but not overpowering. Orange, grapefruit, pine. Very smooth medium bodied. Clean finish.
3.9 Draft pour average golden. Nose great mango and fruit hop. Some sweetness. Taste grapefruit up front. Citrus and mango with tropical fruit hop. Balancing mid palate sweet. Pleasing bitter through the finish. Fairly thick mouth feel.
3.9 Very hoppy, sharp grassy and citric hops, some more resiny ones, crisp biscuit malts. Sharp bitterness too, but I dig it a lot, it just works in this American combo, with my smoked bbq meat. (On tap at Stubbs BBQ restaurant Austin)
2.4 On draft. Faint aroma of soap. Slightly bitter, no particular flavors. Lots of malt. Meh.
