(512) Pecan Porter

(512) Pecan Porter

Nearly black in color, (512) Pecan Porter is made with Organic US 2-row and copious amounts of Crystal malt, along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Its full body and malty sweetness are balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!

3.6 Keg at Ginger Man, Plano. Black with small beige head. Aroma of maple, licorice and pecan. Mid sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Chocolate and tar, pecan and some caramel. Mid bitter finish. Solid. Delivering what I expected. Flawless.
3.6 Draft. Brown-black body with medium tan head. Aroma is moderately sweet, chococaramel, some nut. Taste is moderately sweet, chococaramel, some nut. Mediu body, light stickiness.

3.8 Black draft pour at moonshiner. Pecan and cocoa flavors. Nutty and chocolate. Good stuff
3.4 Keg at Yardhouse, Houston. It pours darkest brown, near black with a sturdy tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, plenty of toasted nuts, a good hit of coffee, treacle and cacao nibs. The taste is bitter, dry roasted malt, toasted nuts, earthy, pecan pie, chewy malt, coffee grounds, cocoa, fudge, toffee and a bit of alcohol. The finish is dry and toasty. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Could be done with a bit more depth, but it’s pretty decent anyhow.
3.3 Quite dark, opaque, tan head. Honey, floral notes, some espresso, dark chocolate. Predominantly sweet with some bitterness. Quite a lot of acidity, cloying oily body, really coats the mouth. Not a huge amount of carbonation. Good.
3.5 Tap at Brass Tap, Fort Worth. Pours black, small tan head. Aroma is pecan, honey, saccharine, roasted malt, chocolate. I like it. Flavor is still pecan and roasted malts, but body is a bit light. More heavy and viscous and this would be killer.
3.1 APPEARANCE- super dark black and nougat colored head that dissipates quickly with no lacing. NOSE- slight malty sweetness and the roastiness comes through as it warms up. FLAVOR- malty and sweet.
3.5 On tap at Bangers Austin. Pour like dark cola, roasted aroma. This is better, a lot, as it warms. Dark cocoa, burnt wood and some nuttiness. Lots of caramel malts and relatively high carbonation. Decent Porter.

3.5 On nitro in Denton. Sweet pecan pie filling, syrupy, a bit too much for me. Good flavors but really saccharine.

3.7 Had this on draft at Friendly Spot in San Antonio. Really nice porter, the pecan adding a bit of sweetness, certainly not subtle but still balanced. Like most good flavored beers, this would have been good just as a porter.
