8 Wired Mighty Imperial Ale

8 Wired Mighty Imperial Ale

My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.
Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak
IBU - 75
SRM - 15

4.0 Bottle. Nice clear amber colour. Big and boozy on the nose. Burnt caramel type flavours with a heap of bitterness. Great beer if you like strong, bitter beers.
4.0 Bottle. Dark bronze color. Nice aroma of smoked ham, malt, caramel, vanilla and oak. Taste is diverse, with oaky vanilla, smoked ham, rauchmalt, soft red fruit and some coffee bitter in the finish. Rich and mighty beer indeed, creative as well. Very good.
3.7 From tap. Hazy amber color with off white head. Malty and hoppy aroma, caramel, citrus fruits, floral. Sweet and bitter taste Like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
3.8 Bottle. Wine with some smoked, a lot of other shades (malts, fruits, oak, pepper etc.), very impressive ale.
2.9 Murky brown with white head. caramel, licorice, smoke and oak. Dry, smoke, some alcohol and herbal finish. Overall: Harsh.
4.2 Bottle from brewdog bar, Sheffield. Maroon with white head. Aroma of treacle, liquorice and chewy bready malts. Taste is deep umami and tangy sweetness with long lasting after bitterness. Full bodied with oil and medium carb. Very good beer.
3.8 12oz bottle, poured into 16oz tulip glass Aroma: sweet, almost bourbon-like, alcohol, toffee, maybe butterscotch, slight vanilla Appearance: brown, cloudy, minimal tan head Taste: medium sweet, slight bitterness on finish Palate: medium to full body, average carbonation Overall: Was taking a NZ friend on a tour of local store, he pointed out that this was from one of the NZ breweries and since I can’t remember ever having a NZ beer before, I picked it up. Very boozy. Have no idea how old the bottle is, could have sat on the shelf for a year or more. Interesting brown color with loads of barrel/oak flavors. Big aroma and taste of alcohol. Very smooth, no harsh bite, but a big ABV. A very nice high ABV, oak barrel aged beer.
3.7 A good year in the bottle it is high time to crack this one. At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Settles a shady and misted deep chestnut with a well held, cappuccino foam atop. A hint of play doh™ precedes some hefty, peated whisky notes that are boozy and piercingly spicy. There is oak, vanillin, burnt caramel and nutty toffee, savoury dried fruit like raisins and muscatels but it is that aroma of Islay Singles that dominates. Viscous and oily body. Quite some depth. A lot of that aroma coming through with huge whisky notes (not a whisky barrel aged beer so weird!) with vanillin, oak, blackbutt honey and fortified port-like notes. Woody nutty and earthy mid-palate. Long, smoky and peated finish with enough booze to give you heart-burn. A lengthy ale and quite an adventure but one was enough. (33cL, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
3.8 Pours a clear, rusty brown with no head. Aromas of caramel, oak, and forest floor. Flavours of caramel, oak and a hint of smoke. Surprisingly little alcohol until late in the finish.
3.0 Bottle: Poured a hazy reddish hue with an off white head. The aroma was spicy and fruity, while the initially sweet taste had the flavor of fruit, spices and caramel. The finish was slightly bitter and lasting. It had a medium body and a slightly creamy and thick feel on the tongue. The alcohol content is well hidden.
3.6 Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a crystal clear deep mahogany with a thin broken white head. The aroma is resin hop. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a woody resin citrus hop palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lovely and smooth and the alcohol is well hidden.
3.6 12oz bottle pours a brown color without any head. Very low carbonation. Lots of sticky malt sweetness. A bit of alcohol harshness. Mild oakiness.
3.6 Bottle @ home. Brown color with no head. Smells malty, roasty, some hop and barley wine. Smells alchohol, barley wine, roasty, dark malts, hops, almond, sweet, nice. Taste is the same.
4.1 Bottle @ home. Brown colour with no real head. Smells barley wine, roasty, dark malts, hops, almond, sweet, nice. Taste is the same as smell with a touch of alcohol. Very nice. Full body, soft carbo.
3.7 Big on everything, great with a hearty meal. Wood and smokey flavours take a nice back seat. Big malt
4.4 A: barrel, wood, plum. M: silky, tons of barrel notes, butter, diacetyl, vanilla, booze and a hint of smoke that’s definitely present O: very smooth, booze isn’t very powerful considering, even when warm. I can’t wait to see how this aged. Beautiful
3.8 Sample at the Badge-Whore Bowl (OSU vs AL) tasting on 01/01/2015. Clear amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of smoked malt, hops and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, dark fruit and oak. The finish is smoky with a fruity and malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
3.6 Bottled 330ml. -Courtesy of hrabren, shared with him and others. Darker amber coloured, medium sized pale beige head, hint of wood in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, alcohol and mild spicy with notes of wood and dried fruits. Mild peaty notes in the finish. Good brew but too expensive (14€ small bottle).
2.5 Bottle. Strong overripe date nose....hmmm. Medium amber/orange color. Harsh ripe frit from the get go.... and not much else. Medium body. Well... not sure what went wrong with this one.
3.8 bottle. clear amber brown, smooth light brown head. seriously dark for an ipa style ale. aroma is malts, caramel, bitter hops, candi sugar. flavor is roasted malts, bitter hops, wood, licorice, smoked notes from the manuka. Pretty intesresting brew, does not resemble anything else i’ve tasted for a long while.
3.5 Huge thanks to Hrabren for sharing this with us! Poured an amber-red body with a tiny off white head. Yoghurty, slightly peaty, heavily malty creamy aroma. Taste... Caramel, vague peat, light bitterness, vague alcohol. Finishes on a medium bitter note. Tasty but not that thrilling.
3.7 Birra intensa che colpisce subito con una nota affumicata e morbida che poi volge a una profonda esplosione di caramello, ammorbidito dalle note legnose e leggermente torbate e balsamiche dell’invecchiamento.
3.8 Appearance is somewhat dodgy with mead-like copper color and almost no head. Aroma has a lot of liquorice, at least at a cold temperature. Taste is has a in-your-face type of feel. Palate is heavy but the absent of alcohol is a good thing. A very good beer but not really my cup of tea.
3.8 Poured from a botyle it is a light brown with a slight head. The aroma is boozey and caramel. The taste is a sweet bourbon with hints of spices and a bit of pepper
3.8 From a 33 cl bottle shared at home. Pours a hazy cola brown with an ecru head. Aroma of caramel. Flavors of carramel, dark fruits, oak and some smoky notes. Complex and hot. Boozy finish.,
4.5 Pours a hazy copper/brown with a small dirty white head and a bunch of lace spots. Aroma is is rich maltiness, caramel, smoke, dark dried fruits, raisins, plums, figs, and some port like characteristics. Flavour is rich maltiness, caramel, faint cocoa, earthy, herbal, medium-high bitterness, oak, faint alcohol and smoke.
4.0 Bottle at BrewDog Bristol on 23 Nov. Poured a clear amber, with a dense off white head. Aroma of raisins, figs, caramel and grain. More dried fruit in the flavour, with spice and burnt sugar. Finish was malt, toffee, herbal notes and molasses.
3.7 Bottle. Pours darker brown in color with a tan head. Bit of smoke, wood and butterscotch in aroma with a hefty load of fruityness backing it up. Bit on the sweeter side in taste with some notes of vanilla and smokyness too. Notes of honey and dark syrup later on, sweet maltyness too. Quite filling, with some vinous notes in the end.
3.0 Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Small somewhat thicker creamy beige head. Hazy warm red colored body. Aromas of malts, some dust, light fruity, light vinous, some sweets and light soap. Mostly a malty vinous sticky and light dusty aroma. Flavour is malty, bitter, some light fruity tones, some yeast, light wood, light vinous ish tones... Aftertate is malty, bitter, some old wood, some porridge, light dry, bit towards a nasty bitter tone. Low carbo, close to silky mouthfeel, more than medium bodied and a light sticky good bitter texture. Too much (nasty) malts and (nasty) wood tones that dominates the flavour and aftertaste, unfortunately! Damn, this beer gets worse as worse with every sip! Unbalanced with dirty malts, woods and bitters. Ugh...
3.5 Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy woody caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty spicy woody dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty woody dark fruit and caramel finish.
