8 Wired ReWired Brown Ale

8 Wired ReWired Brown Ale

”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!”

3.7 Brown with a white head. Slightly funky, malty, sweet, a bit of cherry tart. A good brew but not overly interesting.
3.0 Pours dark amber with an off-white, fluffy head that sticks around. Aroma is of honey, burnt sugar, and caramel. Some mild oxidation. No hops. Flavor is herbal, earthy, and nutty with some caramel. Slick mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Maybe it’s the age (best by in 2 days), but I don’t get the high score of this one.
3.4 Sample at the Badge-Whore Bowl (OSU vs AL) tasting on 01/01/2015. Dark brown color with a thin foamy beige head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel and earthy hops. Light to medium body with flavors of toasted malt, sweet caramel and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.4 From bottle at a beer tasting at Tap 66, Xiamen. Pours hazy copper with a thin white head. Hoppy aroma with a hint of caramel, chocolate and pine. Bitter finish.
3.4 Bottle to tulip Sourness, light malt, earthiness. Pours a dark brown with a long lasting creamy light tan head. Some fruitiness up front, then nuttiness, a touch of bitter chocolate.
3.6 Brown body, brown foamy and abundant head. Malty, brown sugar and lactose on the nose. Taste is sweet, dried fruit with a touch of piney hops, a touch of maple syrup. Tingly palate. Nice brown ale.
3.3 500ml bottle, very malty aroma with hints of caramel, coffee, chocolate etc, the taste is similar with a tangy bitter dry slightly hoppy finish, refreshing quality ale
3.0 500 mL bottle. A rather unimpressive brown ale. Needs more nuttiness, and there is a metallic note at the end.
3.7 "Murky brown with generous head. Body typical of the style, maybe a touch fizzy but smooth. Aroma and flavor win you over...ample roast, but intermingled with a plethora of tropical fruity hops. Well structured. More enjoyable than most American browns, but also priced like a six pack for 16.9 oz."
3.6 New Zealand brown ale with very rocky, yellowish beige, frothy head and dark copper brownish red colour. Aroma of hazelnuts, caramel, coffee powder, milk chocolate, dried plums, orange, peppery hops, nutmeg, grapefruit, sage, pear, overripe berries. Refreshing onset, citrussy with restrained fruitiness, strong nutty and caramelly maltiness and a hint of roasted bitter in the end, dry with sharp carbo, spicy notes, peppery and leafy hoppiness in the tail, medium long. More roasted and more bitter than your average English brown ale.
4.1 Appealing dark brown colouring, flavours of toffee and caramel finishing bitter across the palate, this Brown Ale could easily become a regular.
3.9 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 500 ml bottle into a dimpled mug. The label lists the abv at 5.7% and has a nice description of the beer. Appearance: The body is dark brown, nearly black in color and when held up to light it appears to have good clarity. The head is tall thick and long lasting. This makes for some good lacing. Smell: It’s aroma is loaded with caramel and bready maltiness. Taste / Palate: The tongue is hit with a light heavyweight punch of caramel, toffee and sweet bready notes. It has a touch of nutty character as well. Hop bitterness is very light and really only picked up late in the finish. The feel is smooth and slightly sticky on the lips.
3.5 Tasting at Plonk. A solid brown ale - big hoppy flavours come through. Nice.
3.0 Fine but a little thin brown ale. Dark brown color with a nice little foam.
3.2 Keg at brewdog Edinburgh. Pours brown, sweet and malty caramel and toffee, dry.
3.8 reddish-brown colour, moderate sized creamy beige head;aroma of caramel, biscuit, fruitiness and bready notes; taste of roasted malt, caramel and hints of fruitiness, good ale
2.9 Sparkling chestnut, small lasting beige head.Nose is lt sweet & lt alcohol.Bland start, light bitterness starts in mid.Lacks malt sweetness
3.4 500ml bottle at home from drinkstore. Pours dark with reddish brown hints in light. Tan foam head. Earth, ash, nut, coffee, blackberry and slightly floral on the nose. Big malt base caramel, nuts, bread, only slight bitterness but mainly sweet syrup aftertaste. A little watery and light despite but malt presence. a good bit of fizz and its refreshing for what it is. Not bad.
3.3 500mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber-tinged brown with a medium tan head. Aroma toasted nuts and a little roast - almost seems a bit oxidized. Flavour brings out very pleasant toasted nuts, a touch of roast and a touch of dry caramel malt. Quite dry and nutty, while remaining quite flavourful for a brown ale. Very drinkable stuff, but ultimately very boring.
3.0 Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Viktoriagade Dark mahogany color, hazy, with small creamy head. The aroma of roasted malt is a bit dusty. Good body strength; roasted malt flavor, ashes, dark chocolate, dust; strong bitterness, with a lot of hop resins; too bitter and ashy in the end. The roasted/burnt malt character is too evident.
3.9 Bottle. Brown with a medium head. Pleasant nutty flavour with some spices present. Smooth and different.
3.2 Aroma of malts and brown sugars. Pours a deep amber/brown. Foamy tan head that died immediately. Tastes more like a stout than an ale to me honestly which is decent. Very sweet finish that I’m not enjoying too much. Earthy, good offering from 8-Wired.
2.7 @ Mikkeller Bar Stockholm: en helt vanlig trevlig brown ale med svara karamell och rostade toner. Fin men ganska ordinär. ---- Soberness not garanteed!
3.2 Floral hoppy nose, some caramel to it. Taste is very balanced and quite nice, sprucy hops, very biscuity, and some cafe touch to it, kinda creamy mouthfeel but very easygoing still, quite hoppy.
3.8 10 bucks at CBB. 5.7% 500 ml bottle, a crystal clear ruby brown - a good looking beer. The nose is musty citrusy floral/herbal hops. The beer is medium bodied & smooth. With a zesty carbonation. The taste is a good mix of citrusy fruity hops & nutty darkish malts. A great brown ale.
3.2 Smell of chocolate. Dark brown colour, light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, hops. Some chocolate. Medium sweet, medium bitter. Quite nice, but very nonsurprising. Mid-flat carbon.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a dark brwon colour with a mid size white head, malty aroma with some caramel, the taste is light and malty with a right amount of roast with a dry finish.
3.5 Found this to be a heavy beer on the palate - like having too many pies. Driven by roasted malt this is a beer that lingers, but lacks vibrancy and freshness, hence the average overall. Just not a style that does much for me.
3.7 Ins Glas ergießt sich ein dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, dunkle reife Früchte, Karamell. Geschmack röstmalzig, Karamell, dunkle Früchte.
3.3 Brown body and large head. Biscuity, woody but mostly toasty malts, with a soft yet present hop backup. Toasty yeast even. Good selection of ingredients, however, it doesn’t do much for me personally. Taste is medium bitter, foamy mouth feel, not exciting. A bit disappointed. It certainly not cheap (here). (50cl bottle brought by Bertanne from De Molen)
