961 / Kissmeyer - Brewmaster's Select 01 - Lebanese Pale Ale

10’000 years in the making, the LPA marks the return home for beer. From the land where beer and human civilisation were born, comes a new brew that is a marriage between Western brewing tradition, Eastern complexities, and a sublime expression of the Lebanese Renaissance. It was inspired straight from the Lebanese spice markets. For decades there has been little choice in the diversity of Lebanese beers. This beer provides an alternative for the Lebanese population, with ingredients such as za’atar, sumac, mint, sage, anise, and chamomile. The use of such herbs and spices makes this distinctive craft brew truly Lebanese.

3.2 Bottle. Hazy amber. Toasted middle eastern flatbread, a bit perfumed. Mint, sesame, sage, herbal finish. Medium light, slightly flat mouthfeel. Neat, very interesting.
3.5 Golden. Aroma is herbs, tomato, olive oil, some raisins, safran, noble hops, sage. Taste is quite starchy pale malt. Also fresh sourness. some sweet juice. Quite drinkable. Nice.
3.6 Bottle. Clear deep amber color with white head. Aroma is za'atar (which I love!), anise, more herbs, caramel. Taste is za'atar, caramel, and the same mix of spices. Super-great idea, and works out well! Nice!
1.8 330mL bottle, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with herbs that smell like fresh dirty pot. Flavour is along the same lines, with tons of herbs and pot. This is garbage.
2.5 355ml bottle @ Erik's. Pours a clear orange copper colour with a thin white head. Nose is potent sage with subtle other spices mixed about. Flavour is just as the nose, strong sage with a mess of other spices.
2.5 Bottle - Mint, sage and a melange of spice. Clearishgold with a decent white head. A mess of spice as the nose implies. No point.
3.0 Light amber. Looks a little bit flat. There's a lot of spice, though honestly it's a bit indistinct. Light malts. Light amber malts, spice like sage are prominent. Light hop bitterness, and it's not all that unbalanced. Ok, does finish with a zaatar character. It's ok, I mean, for what it is.
3.5 Refrigerated 11.2 oz. brown bottle best before date June 27, 2018 poured into a glass. Slightly hazy light orange with small white head. Aroma is sage, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is sage, chamomile, and a little mint. Interesting, but definatley not a pale ale.
2.8 33cl Bottle @ Estucerveza.com, Valencia, Spain. Golden colour with a medium size white head. Aroma is grain, herbs, spices. Taste is grain, malt, sweet, herbs, spices, bitter. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.7 Clear golden colour, medium sized dense off-white head; aroma and taste of grains, basil, oregano, chamomile, maybe slight ansie and salty notes; Just like a liquid pizza with a lot of oregano and basil and without tomato...weird experience!
3.3 Bottle: Copper to pale amber color. Aroma is intensive herbal with notes of sage, earl grey tea, rosemary, light sweetness, candy. Flavor is light malty, light sweet, quite herbal with again sage, rosemary and earl grey tea. Bit thin bodied, interesting herbal brew.
3.3 Bottle from Schneiders Getränke, Köln. The beers starts very dry, herbal hints, nice floral bitter hops. The body is grainy, fresh, the herbs are not as intense as I hoped, the main focus here is the grainy dry bitterness. Interesting.
4.7 A very creative and lovely beer for the thym lovers very nice with a pizza or barbecue ... bought in France allez hops
3.9 Aroma citrico e marcante. Cor amarelada turva. Sabor seco, adistrigente e refrescante.
2.5 330ml bottle, purchased from SAS. Clear bright copper body with a low white head. Aromas of ginger, cinnamon, coriander and some sweet fruits. Flavor is a bit similar, but with a more distinct bitterness and more herbal/tea flavor punching through. Perhaps this would complement the Libanese cuisine perfectly, but on it’s own the herbs and spices just takes over everything imo.
2.9 Bottle from Fifth Element, Southbank. A grassy aroma with anise and other spices coming through. This beer has a lot going on and the pale ale style is just a blank canvas for the experience.
3.0 Bottle in Lebanese restaurant in NYC. Golden body with slight head. Nose spicy and floral. Taste malty with spices and caramel notes. Pretty good.
3.6 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a semi-transparent light orange brown colored body and an excellent lacing. The mild aroma was musty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mild hoppy aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of mild rye mild spice breads and hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.
3.4 Bottle @Tabbouli, Stockholm. Wow! here is much going on! lots of spices, ta´kes me to Another country right away. Aroma: floral hops, hay, herbs, black tea?. Appearance: clear dark golf/amber, medium frothy white head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: intense floral hops, bitters continue, not getting too strong, some spices and herbs. Interesting and far better than expected.
2.8 Poured amber-gold in pint glass. Spicy aroma and very spicy taste. Too spicy for me, but I was forewarned by the deScription. I agree with the reviewers who suggested food with this beer. I would have enjoyed it more than I did.
3.0 Bottle. Semi dark maltiness. Heavy spiciness. Slightly sweet. Slightly smoked. Good with food.
3.0 Bottle at Tabbouli. Clear golden with white head. Spicy aroma with herbs and grain overpowering. Same in taste, very herbal and spicy with some fresh citrus behind it. Very original, but a little bit too much. Paired quite well with the food though.
1.8 330 ml bottle at Meza. Deep golden with white head. Aroma is very herby, thyme, sage and almost nothing else. Taste is similar, very unbalanced.
2.4 I tried this since it said there was a taste of za’tar, which I am quite a big fan of. It turned out to be too powerful but it is nicely different.
3.0 Bottle from Copenhagen. Interesting beer lots of herby notes, although they take over a bit to mouch
3.9 Clear copper colour with no head. Aroma is tea, anise, and spice. Taste is sage and chamomile.
3.3 Malty and herbed, the thyme sage and mint really come forward. pale straw colour no head, minimal lacing. Tastes like the nose. A unique beer for sure, but i’m not sure i like it or not, definitely needs food with it.
