A. Le Coq Porter

A. Le Coq Porter

A.Le Coq Porter is a strong dark beer that can rightfully be considered to be the successor of the world-famous "Imperial Extra Double Stout." Its mature character and perfect taste are derived from sparkling spring water and extra dark caramel-malt.

2.8 Bottle at home. Pours dark brown with medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet dark fruits and malts. Taste has malts and hay with some sweetness. Not that great...
3.8 Clear dark brown with a fine head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and herbs. Well-balanced taste.
2.7 Bottle 500 ml. Aroma and taste: a little sweet, a little wine, malty, caramel, like a baltic porter-light.

3.6 This is a very typical Baltic porter, and as such is considered a Baltic porter and not just as a porter. But what is the difference between a porter and a Baltic porter, some might ask? Well, you see! A Baltic porter is a direct reflection of the classical English porter, and in the countries Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Poland and partly also in Finland began in the 18th century even to brew porters. The traditional porter was imported from England, but price and competition made it attractive to brew porters locally. A Baltic porter derogates little from the traditional porter by being both a little stronger and have a little sweeter malty character. Baltic porters were almost unknown in the Western world until the Iron Curtain fell in 1989. Since then, Western Europe and the rest of the world could taste a Baltic porter, and many American micro-breweries brews this beer type now. A. Le Coq is a traditional Baltic porter and must therefore rightfully considered a Baltic porter, and not as a failed London-style porter, the difference is in fact quite large. A. Le Coq Porter is black with moderate crest. The aroma is hard roasted malt with hint of licorice. The taste is sweet and direct caramel, but also with a little liquorice and roasted malt in the background. I guess that this is where many will get off the cart and dump the Baltic porters type correctness, but it must and should therefore taste such. If you do not drink it too cold, it is actually really delicate.

3.2 500ml bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee. Taste is sweet with a medium butter finish. Very easy to drink. Porter lite.
3.4 Bottle (trade with non Rate Beer member); pours a clear dark brown with a thin tan head; aroma is slightly sweet with caramel and malt with hints of chocolate and nuts; taste is sweet with caramel, malt, nuts, and a little chocolate; finish is a little dry; very little bitterness
2.7 0,5 l bottle, bought at Grüne Woche 2015, Berlin. Pours out in a dark red brown with a big head. Low sweet malt on the nose. Taste is malty, light toasted, mid sweetness, little bit alcoholic. Low carbonated. Not very complex, more a thin one.
2.3 Drank from a bottle. Quite ok but there is not that much taste when you think it’s a porter. Slightly sweet and watery.
2.6 0.5l Dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma is artificialy sweet, fruity notes, roasted bread. Light to medium body. Light smooth taste at the beginning. End is sweet, malty with alcohol taste.
3.0 0,5 l bottle. Caramel brown colour. Artificial smell. Thin foam. Taste is strong and nice.
4.3 Cerveja escura espuma creme mas pouco persistente. Super bem balanceada nos aromas e sabores, tostado leve, malte muitíssimo saboroso e lúpulo na medida. Cremosa, saborosa e refrescante. Uma delícia quero mais!!!
2.2 Bottle from a local shop (plus € 1). Never had this before. Pours light brown with decent light beige head. Aroma is light caramel and boring malty wateriness, faint roasty notes. The foam extracts notes of alcohol. Taste is uninspiring watery caramel and grainy malts. Would like to say bittersweet but the sweet overpowers the very little bitterness. A hint of chocolate, but that’s really like bits of chocolate diluted in water. Body quite light, palate creamy smooth but also watery, finish very dry, grainy, dusty, minimal bitterness. Some metallic notes later on. Carbonation not present, perhaps only a tiny tingle when swallowing. Covers my teeth with a Cola-like coating, makes me wanna go brush my teeth. Overall a very watery and candy-like caramelly (makeshift of a proper) Baltic Porter. Not good. But not terrible enough to not finish the bottle.
3.1 Farven er dejlig sort men med lidt brunlig farve. Skummet er hurtigt væk igen og ikke så tæt som jeg kunne ønske det, så her mister den et par point ved mig. duft og smag er karamel, og det så rigeligt. God porter.
2.9 Tumman viininpunainen väri, heikko vaahto. Tuoksusta ei saa kiinni. Maussa jotain makeaa marjaa. Suutuntuma vaahtoava, napakka, lievä alkoholin isku. Hajuton väritön mauton jälkimaku. Heikko esitys porteriksi.
3.1 I got this bottle from Jinroh, thank you so much for that! Always wanted to try this beer that bears with its name and style a historical, almost iconic burden. Ratebeer opinion is not too excited about the current product, but I am. The beer is somewhat dark, but far from being black, just translucent dark cherrywood, with a soapy beige head that quiets down to a nice creamy film. Except for a faint skunky whiff when the crown pops, the aroma is mainly Karo and some Waldhonig. One would dread the taste from reading the ratings here, but it is quite nice. Innocuous, but nice. It is sweet, malty, with plenty of caramel and an abrupt finish. But pleasant. Given the rather tame, diluted flavours and the absence of a proper finish, one would be tempted to say it is thin, but I find that there is still a creamy sensation left over for a while after the beer has rolled down. Too classy of a presentation to be carrying such a mundane beer. A le Coq should put their act together and improve this product.
2.8 Pours black with a brownish head, if I remember correctly. Nose of watery coffee, caramel, some chocolate. Same on aroma, with some watery finish Mouthfeel is pretty thin. Sub par porter.
2.5 Bottle 0.5l from local Alko, Espoo. Originally rated 15122011. Colour is dark brown with small head. Aromas and flavours: Coffee, some chocolate and roasted malts.
3.0 0,5L bottle, BB 11.07.15. Pours dark ruby with light tan head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is roast and caramel. Flavor is sweet, roast, caramel, and malt. Finish sweet, malty and some alcohol. Body is watery. Overall: ok brew.
2.6 Malt and dry enough. Taste on the tip and both sides of togue is somewhat brighty malty.
