3.4 330ml can, Singapore version. Pours black with tan head that doesn't last. Plum, toast, coffee, more toast, an interesting sweet fruitiness that I can't place. Quite light bodied for the style, but it's not a bad thing given the climate. Nice.
3.0 zapach przyjemny, dość intensywny, czekolada, kawa, owoce, lekki alkohol. pite z puszki. w smaku raczej pełne, słodowe, czekolada, kawa, lekki popiół, owoce, lekkie jabłko, bardzo lekki alkohol. goryczka umiarkowanie wysoka. popiół, czekolada, alkohol. lekko kwaskowe. nasycenie wysokie.
3.5 6% can from a Singapore convenience store. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin light tan head. The aroma is caramel roasty malt, liqourice hop. The flavor is liqourice bitter, light sweet with a dry roasty malt, liqourice hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
5.0 Very good stout.
3.0 Can in Seattle. Sri Lanka version. (I also can’t figure out why these are separate entries). Huge thanks to MacDowall for bringing this from Sri Lanka and giving it to me in Belgrade. Tan foam, malty brown body, fairly extract looking. Bitter, almost burnt licorice flavor to the aroma. Dry, fairly bitter. Seems like dry herbs. Some dark cherry fruitiness. Bitter, dry cardboard, bitter chocolate. Pretty impressive in its own way.
2.9 16 oz can poured, thanks to Matt. Sri Lanka version, but still not sure why the entries are separate. Dark brown pour, thin fizz head. Odd aroma, sweet, milky, dark malt. Flavor is more sweetalts, watery chocolate, cool finish. Strange, but could be much worse. Interesting beer for sure.
2.9 330mL can, Cambodian version (8%), pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out moderate roast, some vegetal character, and some oats. Flavour is similar, with moderate roast, oats, cola and a little soy sauce. Finishes oaty and soy-like. Nothing overly complex or smooth, as the carbonation is a bit high and the body is a bit thin. It’s okay.
3.2 Can at John’s courtesy of Henrik. Sri Lanka 8.8% version. Pours black with a small lasting tan colour head. Aroma of sweet malt, roasted coffee, molasses, honeycombe and cola. Medium to heavy sweetness, very light bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation.
3.2 Can, Myanmar, 8,0%, dark brown color, coffee foam, sweet aroma: flowers, caramel, prunes, wine, esters. Taste: sweet, caramel, prunes, wine, not bad.
3.9 From old tasting notes. Pours an opaque black color topped by a huge foamy brown head. Big sweet roasted malt nose. Mildly sweet roasted mal upfront. Notes of milk chocolate and coffee in middle. Notes of burnt caramel and coffee with spicy hops in finish. Decent.
3.6 Big bottle in Nyaungshwe, Myanmar. Really dark brown, creamy beige head. Roasted malty chocolate and coffee, dried and some red fruits, light bitter finish, very light iron. Smooth mouthfeel, medium carbonation, good body.
3.3 Tasted 2/1/2017. Myanmar version - 8.1%. 4000K at 7 sisters, Bagan, Myanmar. BB 25 JUL 17. Poured an opaque black (ruby under strong light) with no edge tint with a one-finger tan dense foam head that retained very well and lacing well. Carbonation low, slow and fine. Aroma sweet condensed milk, chicory notes, coffee and hints of vanilla; alcohol well hidden. Taste of chicory, sweet vanilla, coffee and roasted notes; alcohol well hidden. Medium body. Smooth and creamy with lingering moderately strong coffee bitterness on the finish. Nice.
2.9 0,5l can at hotel room in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka. Stri Lanka Edition at 8.8% ABV. BB 03/2017. dark brown colour, small coffee colored head. smells earthy, tobacco, caramel, bit milky, licorice, lightly boozy. decent smell. Full Body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes boozy, glueish, warming alcohol, lightly roasty, earthy, some dried fruits. finishes with some sharp alcohol notes and licorice and earthy notes. alcohol is way too obvious on this one, lacks some complexity.
3.0 Can in Cambodia. 8%. I fell asleep whilst drinking this in bed and am writing the review with the remnants in the morning. Tastes like it is 8%. A little flat. Tastes like peanut m and ms soaked in meths. Pretty good.
3.8 a small can from our recent holiday in Singapore, rated back-to-back with Guinness Foreign Extra Stout. this one comes in at 6%. Aroma: yeasty caramel. Appearance: looks like Guinness without the head. Palate: medium-bodied, slightly creamy, soft carbonation. The roasted malt comes through, but it’s rather thin. Finish lacks complexity. Taste: nicely malty - intuitively, I feel the bottled product is probably more satisfying. Not bad though.
3.5 8.8% Sri Lankan version. Light metallic, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, cacao, light caramel. Murky black, medium, creamy, beige head. Medium sweet. More dark chocolate and roasted malts, soft carbonation, full bodied, dry and creamy texture, light bitterness in the finish. Decent Foreign Stout, well-balanced, could do with more complexity and initially was slightly off in the aroma. Bottle from The Pub, Kandy.
3.6 Obviously this isn’t as good as the lion stout, which due to floods is ATM (very sadly) very difficult to get in Sri Lanka. It’s still a nice stout, especially if you’ve been drinking kingfisher for 3+ weeks... Comes with a dark frothy head when poured. Aroma is quite nice, dark malts, roast and liquorice are very noticeable with some booze in the background. Flavour is rather mild considering the abv. Creamy and malty mouthfeel followed by a very roasty taste full of caramel. Could be more complex but it’s a nice beer overall.
2.9 Can. Pours very dark brown with tan head. Aroma is dark malts with hints of caramel, coffee and roasted malt. Taste has roasted malts, roasted caramel and coffee. Finish is smooth and soft and semi-sweet.
3.2 Can ( 6% Singapore). Very dark brown - almost black, average to large and mostly lasting light brown head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light coffee with faint - light roasted malt. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, light - some caramel and faint roasted malt, light - some coffee, faint hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light - some caramel with faint - light roasted malt, light coffee, faint - light hoppyness and faint alcohol. Sweetish stout with caramel and notes of coffee and faint roastiness. Could be drier with less caramel. Nice head though.
3.2 Bottle sample, thanks Tom. Pours brown black with a biege head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, caramel and prunes. Sweet malt, cofffee, chocolate, caramel, a bit green and fruity, dry-finish. Medium-bodied.
2.1 Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom L place. Thanks Tom L. 6% abv. Opaque brown with small beige head. Aroma of prune, date honey and coffee. Sweetish flavor, sourish with notes of prune, date honey, coffee, "green", a bit salty, bitter-sour finish. Light to medium-bodied.
2.7 323 ml dose 6% in Singapur, schwarzer Farbe schaum ok, Geruch kräftig röstmalz, Geschmack röstmalz süsslich mit leicht herber Abgang
2.6 323ml Dose in Singapur mit 6,0%. Dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes klares Bier mit beigem Schaum. Extremes Röstaroma. Kafee, chickore, etwasVanille. Im Antrunk auch sehr viel verbrannte Röstaromen. Fast schon kratzig auf der Zunge. Leichte Süsse.
2.1 Can at bar (Cambodian version). Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, alcohol, a bit of nuts and coffee. Bitter finish with roasted malts, alcohol, nuts and a bit of coffee. Really bad, alcoholic stout.
2.1 16oz can in Sri Lanka (8.8%) pours a murky black with some sudsy tan head. Nose is earthy, soil, dark brown sugar/molasses, some pencil lead, cheap chocolate, licorice. Doesn’t smell bad, just smells like a bunch of adjuncts. Flavor follows, cheap licorice, even some bubblegum, rootbeer lollipops, some brown sugar, cola. Just sweetness. Slick finish.
3.4 Can sample at a tasting at Max’ place. Thanks a lot Alexei! Black with a tan head. Ash and burnt coffee aroma, bitter, dry and roasty - coffee - taste. Quite light body, roasty and very mild sourness in the finish. Burnt notes but quite cool all in all.
3.1 How: Can, Sri Lankan version. Where: New Lion Wine Store, Colombo. Appearance: Black colour with a quickly fading tan head. Aroma: Chocolate, sweet malt. Body: Full body, medium carbonation. Flavour: Sweet malt, chocolate, some liquorice and alcohol.
2.4 330 ml (8%) Bought in a random supermarket in Siem Reap. Chocolate smell toasted malts, vainilla, alcohol. Meh. Dark color, creamy head. Forgetable taste, but rather good, because you don’t feel the 8%. Toasted and a little acid in the end maybe. MEH
3.4 Sample at the Tiger Brewery, 6%. Smooth malty beginning. Quite dry with a nice full body. Caramel, smooth malt, roast with not too much sweetness. Nice and round with a dry but not too sweet malty but roasted finish.
