Abita Andygator

Abita Andygator

Abita Andygator®, a creature of the swamp, is a unique, high-gravity brew made with pale malt, German lager yeast, and German Perle hops. Unlike other high-gravity brews, Andygator® is fermented to a dry finish with a slightly sweet flavor and subtle fruit aroma. Reaching an alcohol strength of 8% by volume, it is a Helles Doppelbock.

3.0 Pears clear golden with a thick white head. Aroma of malt and grassy yeast. Taste has slightly heavily ferrous notes as well as a strong grassy element that pervades the beer. Palate has lingering citrus notes, malty sweetness, very dry. Good.
2.9 zapach dość intensywny, słodki, słody, liście z kukurydze, gorzkie zielone liście, trochę stare drożdże, odrobina spieczonego mleka, lekka wanilia, odrobina alkoholu. wszystko dość dobrze ułożone. kolor złoty, dość jasny, lekko opalizujący, piana biała, niezbyt obfita i niezbyt trwała. w smaku pełne, słodowe, lekko liściaste, sporo starych drożdży, trochę ziemi i wilgotnej piwnicy, odrobina jabłek i ogonków, lekkie gorzkawe nuty alkoholu i ruskiego szampana. przypomina bardziej wyrafinowane 'chamskie super mocne'. goryczka umiarkowana do niskiej, drożdżowa, alkoholowa, lekko drewniana i liściasta. nasycenie umiarkowane. lekko grzeje w usta.
2.8 355ml Flasche. Klar und hellbraun mit minimaler Schaumkrone. Leicht malzig. Herb im Antrunk. Eher leichter Körper.
3.3 Aroma is mineral water, caramel and a mild vegetal note. Taste is light sweet malts, caramel, honey and a mild ry spiciness.
2.6 Golden with a thin, frothy head. Very little aroma—bready, a bit. Taste is blandly sweet, full of dough and grains. Mild, crisp bitterness at the end. Underwhelming. This is misclassified and should be a „Heller Bock“. An attempt at one anyway.
3.5 I am very interested in the genetic heritage of the reviewers who participate in this beers review! I once took a test of my pallet preferences and it directly correlated to my ancestors home country. Seems that people (like myself) from Baltic region, have a different preference for taste! I like this beer very much. My like differs from the average review. I read the package info and it states it is, for the most part, a German Perle Hop, and a German Lager Yeast, beer. carton implies that it pairs with exactly what I was eating when I originally fell in love with this beer, (anything crawfish, and as I can attest "alligator and shrimp". carton also goes on to state that it is goes good with Gorgonzola and Blue Cheese dishes. If this sounds like a good beer for your dinning preferences then I suggest you try it! I must admit that when I have the opportunity to have it on draft (when I'm in New Orleans) it is a real treat when I'm eating true Cajun Cooking. If you haven't noticed, I'm not about to give you a description of the beer as others have. My so called pallet is unique to me and I can not begin to describe it in the terms that the other reviewers have described, as I don't imply I have an ability that rivals the gods, but I like it with what I like to eat. Can you sit and drink it like your favorite watered down beer? No! But I think you owe it to the craftmanship of the brewers art, to try this beer when the opportunity arises! I live in Missouri and have to special order this brew from one of the few places that have access to it. I recently purchased three cases and I can honestly say this is a staple in my pantry!
2.3 12oz bottle clear golden color thick foamy head smell bread alcohol light hops malts dried fruit taste of dried fruit hops bread mild bitter aftertaste can feel the alcohol creep in after. First bock I've drank don't know much of em
3.9 I’m not an expert on bocks or doublebocks for that matter. This is the smoothest one I’ve had so far. Great balance of flavors, though I suspect that with a doublebock I should be getting something stronger. For now I’ll say this is my favorite, but who knows what will happen down the road on my doublebock journey.
2.8 (12oz bottle, part of a variety 12-pack) AROMA: very light/soft nose. hint of malt, hay, biscuit, detergent APPEARANCE: slightly brownish straw yellow. creamy yet thin head. hint of haze. TASTE: moderately rich malt, graininess that leans toward corn. some alcohol but not too much, dried and roasted fruit, dark toast, dark green vegetables, grass, bitter mocha/coffee, touch of bran. As noted, not very sweet. PALATE: medium body ... not that heavy. front is smooth and watery, then a bit more richness kicks in with a nice bitter and mostly dry finish. OVERALL: don't drink Doppelbocks very often so can't provide any sort of comparative opinion. This beer is lighter and easier to drink than expected. Looks like a robust lager, but it tastes like a lager blended with a Belgian Strong Ale or Abbey Dubbel. So, still easy to drink but considerably more punch than most every day beers. Nose is pretty weak, appearance is average, but it has some nice Strong Ale/Bock flavors. I wasn't too fond of this on the first couple sips, but I found it to be a respectable (if slightly off-balanced and one dimensional) beer.
3.8 Pours dark chestnut with a tan head. Aroma is nuts, dried fruit and some roast. Taste is raisin and almond, moving to roast and light citrus. Finish is smooth roast.
4.0 Very solid doppelbock. Alway very consistent and good casual heavier beer.
3.3 From a 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear gold with a thick off white head. Aroma is bready. The flavor is moderately sweet bread dough and lemon zest.
3.6 Pours up a clear golden color with little heat. Aroma has a sweet fresh bread smell. Taste is malty ,sweet, but not overly so. Nice easy drinker.
3.5 Andygator is a lighter take on the dopplebock style, pouring light amber, but lacking much head. Rich bready aroma and flavor playing up sweet malts is the star here. Long malty fade with a mild wash of carbonation at the end. Mouthfilling.
3.8 1/31/18 From bottle at home after day of Plastic Surgery at Pennsy. Clear straw with a big fluffy head. Bottle is really cool. Smells like a lager on steroids. Maybe a bit of chocolate/dark fruit? Taste is much better than the smell. Fruity and dark with noticeable hops. Pretty sweet with balanced bitterness. Medium palate and very smooth for 8%. Lingering hoppy lager finish. Overall, this is interesting. Taste is definitely more Helles than doppelbock but it’s pretty darn good!
3.4 12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden orange. Small white head. Aroma is caramelish to breadish. Grassy hops. Bitter, toasted malt, subdued sweet. Breadish. Dense malty. Medium dry snd hrbal bitter far finish.
4.1 Ok for a change but not a beer I could drink several of in one sitting. The 8.0% alcohol makes it pretty strong.
3.1 650ml bottle into shaker. Cloudy orange beer with thin foamy white head. Patchy lacing. High carbonation with floaties. Nose is sweet caramel toffee. Taste is sweet malt and toffee. Alcohol is noticeable in the slightly sour & fruity finish. Not bad, but nothing special.
0.7 Helles Doppelbock??????? Not sure if they understand what they are saying and then producing. Ive had doppelbocks- this aint it. Bitter taste was not good. Wont be buying any more.
3.2 Trying this out as a dessert beer after a hearty dinner of steak tacos, and it actually works as a one-and-done boozy brew. Cleverly named with the -ator suffix, this claims to be a Helles-doppelbock, and I see what they're getting at, although it's not exactly well executed. Starts off with a classic clean lager aroma with a little extra sugary sweetness, could be mistaken as an adjunct lager up front. Not much foam but a good bit of fresh lacing, interesting light Helles color. Flavor starts out as clean grain with faintly noble hoppiness, but then transitions to a yeasty and sugary boozy heavy bock flavor without the caramel. Aftertaste of booze, but not too harsh. An interesting combination of styles, although a bit schizophrenic in the flavor profile. Worth a try!
2.2 Sugary bock malt body with a fizzy finish with a bit of honey. A pretty simple doppelbock.
2.2 Bottle at Royal House in New Orleans. Malt dominates the aroma with some yeast underneath.
3.0 Poured from bottle into a pint glass. Clear golden/amber. Finger or so of head at pour, which quickly dissipates. Smells like beer. Haha. First beer I've had of this style, so I had no idea what to expect. Tastes malty and the higher alcohol content is noticeable, albeit only slightly. Solid beer. Might come back for a re-review in the future once I'm more familiar with this type of beer. Cheers.
2.6 Pours clear gold with a minor white head. Aroma is malt. Taste is... not the greatest. Sweet doppel malt. No depth. A little backend bitter. Slight funk. Middling.
2.6 12 oz bottle pours a clear golden/amber with small off-white head and hardly any lacing. Aroma is not strong, but mostly grainy and bready malts, with a touch of molasses. Taste is sweet and occasionally sickeningly sweet. Body is medium with slight carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. The name and the label are the best part of this beer. I found it in a New Orleans restaurant and won’t look for it again.
2.2 Andygator by Abita is very strong. Dark beer oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
3.0 pours a clear rich gold with a medium creamy white head. Light malt aroma. Kind of a different, sweetish taste. A little bitter comes in on the finish and linger. Different, not a bock, but not bad.
3.0 12 fl.oz. bottle from BierPost. A clear golden beer with a huge good lasting off-white head. Strong pale malty aroma, hints of grainy malt, sweet malt. Taste of strong malt, pale malt, mild sweetness, sharp grainy, a bit dry.
2.9 bottled - clear golden color. Not much aroma or flavor at the start. Gets slightly sweet as it warms a bit. Just ok.
