Acme California Brown Ale

Acme California Brown Ale

ACME CALIFORNIA BROWN ALE is creamy smooth after the style made famous in the north of England. It's toasty with hints of cherry and black currant. Acme Brown is brewed according to tradition with high dried and brown malt, and lightly finished with the Noble hops Tettnang and Hallertauer. The result is a very drinkable beer that can be enjoyed for an entire evening.

2.9 Dark amber colored with cloudy appearance. Medium sized light brown head. Toffee and caramel in aroma with some plums, berries and dried fruits. Medium bodied. Flavor is more nutty and chocolaty with slightly watery palate. Aftertaste dries with lemon and hops, some nuts also here.
3.1 12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy brown with a creamy and slowly diminishing light tan head. Loads of malt and overripe fruity notes. Caramel malt towards toffee flavoured. Showing a light overripe fruit note. Bitterness from the hops is slowly showing through the dense malt flavours. Light bitterness into the finish.
3.3 Bottle. great brown ale - has nice mixture of hops and malts - defintely a fruity taste also - very nice
2.8 Bottled. Semi clear and nutty brown colloured with a medium sized off-white head. Somewhat sweet with notes of berries, chocolate, caramel and grains.
3.1 Brown with huge off white head. Aroma is fruity with hoppy notes. Flavor is sweet with hints of caramel, toffee and hops. Ends light bitter. A bit watery.
3.2 Bottle. Average light creamy beige head that mostly lasted. Fair display of lacework. Light cloudy amber color. The base of this brew is mainly malty notes with a good portion of hops to go with it. Light nutty and toasted malt, caramel, hint of fruit and yeast. Then comes light floral and hint of pine from the hops. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation and light dry texture. Moderated sweet with good counter bitterness. Light bitter floral accent. Quit nice.
3.0 Bottle at Bagers. Clear brown - offwhite head. Red berries, dark bread, chokolate, light dusty, caramel, grains, medium sweetness. Light watery body and finish.
3.1 Pours a hazy brown with a small off-white diminishing head. Very sweet with a light acidic hint and a slight bitterness. Very malty with aromas of grain, molasses, straw and cereals. Rather bready. Medium to full bodied and slightly oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Long sweet finish.
2.7 Bottle. Low and hardly existing brown head. The body is hazy dark red. Aroma of caarame. otherwise prettey much alcohold and hops, mild though. Flavlr dominated pretty much cominated by alconol a high carbonation. Low carbonation and a long aftertaste. Sorry mates I do not get it. My expectations are a sweet caramel dominated beer without too much alcohol. Alcohol percentage is ok but sweetness cocoa caramel or goodness knows what I knoe. Too bad: Your beer lacks character.
2.0 Poured brown...like apple cider. Super hazy like an unfiltered wheat. No head at all. Slight malt aroma. Slight malt flavor with some weird metallic twang in the finish. Looks and tastes like someones first attemp at homebrew.
2.9 From the bottle this pours a clear brown body with a one-fingered head. Minimal lacing. The aroma has scents of chocolate and toffee with a light herbal bitterness. The flavor reminds me of those chocolate malt balls (we called them malteezers) that I ate as a kid. Some earthy bitterness and an odd touch of alcohol come in near the finish. Drinkable. 2.4 Not great, very malty. Almost sugary - I wouldn’t reccomend this for any hop fans.
2.6 Date: 03/23/1997 Source: Brewpub clear copper, thin had, light body, light sweet malt flavor with a touch of chocolate, light hop bitterness towards the finish Aroma: 5/10; Appearance: 5/10; Flavor: 5/10; Palate: 5/10; Overall: 10/20 Rating: 2.6/5.0 Score: **/4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The score was calculated based upon the notes and an old scoring system.
3.3 Hazy brown. A small tan on the head. Aroma has hops, toffe and grass. Flavor brings caramellmalt, grass, flowers and sweetnes. It´s quite dry and has a winous touch.
3.4 a brown golden with minimal head. brown sugar and acidic orange aroma with a light floral note. watery and crisp body. a dry bitterness with some chocolate dirt and light toffee. very drinkable but too watery. bottle was a little over a year old
2.8 Tasted 2007-04-06. 1,5 years old, 35,5cl. Clear amber colour with little head. Aroma of malt, molasses - very sweet. Not much taste - maybe too old. Tastes a bit like bread. Has some bitterness left. It’s not bad, and despite the low strength, it’s has gone trough the cellaring quite good.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a hazy brown colour. Fair head. Toasty malty caramel aroma. The flavour has a good toasted maltiness with caramel, some chocolate and hops.
3.3 Warm and heavy, blackcurrant notes in the flavour. Caramel aroma, sweet and cloying. Murky brown.
2.9 Clear amber with a small dense light brown head. Aroma is that of mild sweet caramel with underlying notes of alchohol and flowers. Flavor is sweet and sirupy with a decent amount of bitter hobs taking over. Watery finish, and therefore hardly any aftertaste.
3.1 Bottle. A little muddy deep brown with a nice medium creamy yellowish head with a little lacing. Aroma is sweet with some maltyness and a definite sherry-like feel to it. Mouthfeel is creamy and airy. Flavour is sweet with some caramel, malty and again an oaky sherry creeps in. It dies out a touch before finishing on a chocolate bitter note.
3.1 Def bitter but it’s alright, don’t think I would do it again but I’m glad I did it once? LOVE the label! HOT!
3.4 Malted iced tea tinged nose with a touch of earthy noble hops. Clean and soft on the palate with soft fruit and arth notes, some malt sweetness with little residual sugar. Clean and slightly honeyed finish.
2.0 a pretty good brown with a sweet flavor to it. pleasant to drink, but flavor doesnt leave a distinct lasting impression.
3.5 This amber brown beer has a nice. golden and lasting head. The aroma is malty and the flavour is in the very beginning rather thin, but then I sense notes of sweetness, honey and fruit and slowly a nice taste of roasted malt develops, and this impression is joined by a slight bitterness. A very nice brown ale...
3.3 Acme seems to be a mass produced brew from this top flight brewery. This came from Trader Joes. 12 oz botttle poured dark brown. Medium tan head, with good lacing. Nose of malts and hops. Rich clean mouthfeel and flavors of roasted malts and nuts. Good hoppy finish. Very drinkable brew.
3.6 Bottle. Brown colour with a nice beige head. Aroma and flavour of nuts, caramel, chocolate, roasted malt and hops
2.9 Bottle. Cloudy reddish color with a big beige head. Nice sweet malty aroma with roasted and hoppy notes. Sweet malty flavour with roasted notes and a hoppy finish. A bit watery.
2.8 Overall, not impressed. First off there may have been some skunk to this, then again it may have been an intended flavor. Very wet palate, with far less appeal than a Newcastle. ok color and decent head, but I prefer my beer to accel in flovor overall, and this one did not for me....Also, the label was different...yellow with a woman an a swing.
3.3 Clear amberish brown color with long lasting thin off white head. Aroma is light with caramel and pale malts. Flavor seems to follow the aroma with sweet caramel malts and more grain like pale malts. There is just a hint of (maybe) citrus hops about midway to the finish. Nice brew for the style.
3.4 Pours a cloudy medium brown with small head. Decent lacing. Mild malts in the flavor and seems sort of creamy to the palate. Not bad.
