Adelardus Trudoabdijbier Bruin

Adelardus Trudoabdijbier Bruin

Adelardus abbey beer is the youngest descendant of our beers.

This dark brown beer was made for the open house days of the abbey.

Adelardus was one of the most important abbots for the abbey of Trudo and the city Sint-Truiden. He built the tower and rebuilded the existing church into one of the most monumental churches of that time.

The ingredients are: brewing liqour, malt, yeast, hop, candy and ‘sweet gale’.

‘Sweet gale’ is a mixture of ten spices from the region, which gives the beer his typical flavour.

The alcohol content of this abbey beer is 7 % vol.alc.

3.7 From notes. On draft at Moeder Lambic – Original on November 11. The pour is a nice dark brown with some dark ruby shining through in the light. There is a thick tan head with a bit of light lace left behind. The aroma is full of dark fruits and a brighter, sweet maltiness. There is also a hint of nuttiness that I wasn’t expecting to find either. The flavor is a little more traditional. The dark fruits and malts blend together well. There is a hint of yeastiness and a light metallic offering from the malts. The mouth feel is a little light and well carbonated with a lingeringly sweet fruitiness. It’s a surprisingly good beer.
3.8 Draught at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Pours rich brown with a large, frothy beige head, long retention with excellent "Belgian" lacing. Aroma is heavy bready and nutty malt, light caramel malt notes, dark fruits, nutmeg and a soft earthiness. Flavor is heavy dark bready malt, nutty and caramel malt notes with dark fruits, light spicy hops and bitterness, moderate melanoidin character with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.
3.6 On Tap @Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Bruselas 04/12/16 Color marrón oscuro, sabor maltoso, dulce, cuerpo medio.
2.1 Aroma is sweet, barrel, candy, yeast, mostly sweet, pretty basic. Appearance is reddish brown, hazy, light light brown head. Taste is not good. Woody, sugar, pear, dark fruit, booze, terrible. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, sweet dark fruit wood aftertaste. Overall, this is pretty fucking bad.
3.0 On tap at Moeder lambic, Brussels. Pours brown color, beige head. Aroma of banana, apples. Taste is sweet, banana, apples, chocolate, burnt sugar.
2.0 Vycap Moeder Original. Tmavo hneda farba, hneda pena. Vona sladova, karamelizovany cukor. Chut sladka, kyselkava. Nie dobre.
3.7 Tap at Moeder Original. Dark brown color with medium light beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel. Some roastiness. Taste, banana, dark malt, candies. Very good.
4.0 Tap at Moeder Lambic. Very rich full bodied fruity brew. Typical dubbel, dried fruits, berries. Great beer. Drinking easy. I like it.
3.3 F: decent, pale brown, creamy, average to short retention. C: dark brown, some red tones against the light. A: malty, liquorice, spicy, peppery, fruity banana, yeast. T: malty, liquorice, herbal spicy, dark fruits, syrupy, candy, cough syrup, raisins, medium full body, lower carbonation, quite good, like this, 33cl bottle from Prik&Tik /Quali-drinks/ in Brussels.
3.3 Tap@bette Olhus. Roasted chocolate dusty. Some raisins. Complex. Medium body. Low carbonation. Fair.
3.1 330ml bottle thanks to a holidaying friend. Pours clear dark brown with a thin cream-coloured head. Aromas of caramel, sweet toffee, raisins. Taste is more of the same. A bit dull to be honest.
3.5 Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer is dark brown colored and has a small and unstable creamy head, with average carbonation. The aroma is roasted malts, caramel, dark fruits, liqorice, candy and a hint of spices in the background. The taste is full bodied and medium sweet with some light alcohol notes and roasted malts and some spices in the end. The finish is light bitter and spicy and also leaves a light dryness.
3.7 On tap at Moeder Fontainas. Was very impressed by the aroma, which surprisingly smelled both like roses and leather.
3.9 Malz. Karamel. Natürlich eine angenehme nicht zu aufdringliche Süße. Dezent herb. I Like Dubbel :) !!!! Der Nachhall fast schon ein bisschen quadrupellastig. Toll. From Tap im MOEDER LAMBIC, Brüssel. 25cl/3,50 Euro.
3.1 Tap @ Moeder Lambic. Clear brown body with a small head. Caramel, malt, sweetness. Hmm
3.7 Lekkere zachte en rijke dubbel. Mooi van aroma waarbij de gebrande mout goed proefbaar is. Tonen van kandijsuiker. Zacht en soepel. Lekker.
3.2 from tap: black with off-white head, malty yeasty nose with some spice, medium sweetness, little bitterness, nearly flat, thick creamy mouthfeel
3.6 Bottle 33cl. Deep mahogany brown with a ruby hue, small frothy tan head, mostly diminishing, light lacing; aroma is roasted malts, dried dark fruits, brown sugar, gruut herbs, resinous, fortified wine, bit woody; taste is light heavy sweet and medium bitter, short to average duration, malty, bit fruity, herbal, resinous sweetbitter finish; medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation; not your ordinary Dubbel, nice.
3.2 Bottle at home. Red-brown colour with an off-white head. The pour disturbs the sediment, so my sample has a fair bit of yeast in suspension. Not much aroma, the usual slight yeast and sugar notes. Taste is slightly sweet with some balancing bitterness. Quite rich on the palate with tastes of sweet malt, dried fruits and dusty cocoa. Only average as far as dubbels go.
3.4 Dark beer with a small head. Dark malts, spices, nuts, some grapes, some alcohol as well. Not too sweet, dry and mineral in the finish. Pleasant beer
3.3 Bottle under the name Dubbel Dark. Donkebruine color with beige head. Aroma of caramel and candy sugar. Taste of sweet malt, candy and some ripe fruit.
3.0 340ml bottle at Corner Bar, Beijing. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma of malt and Belgian yeast. Sweet finish. Average.
2.9 33 cl. bottle @ Robert’s Pub, Veenendaal. Clear brown with an off-white head. Caramel aroma with hints of honey. Sweet taste with a slightly metallic undertone. Unremarkable dubbel.
3.1 Bottle from an unrecorded source. Poured a hazy chestnut brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is a mix of spice and perfume along with nutmeg, nut, chocolate and caramel malts. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation. Medium sweet, with low level bitterness. OK...
2.2 I wasn’t too impressed by this Abbey Dubel. The mixture of spices never seems to find a real balance and I missed a specific character.
3.2 Medium mokka head, dark brown colour, malts sweet candy like maple sirup like smell, medium carbonation low bitter some metall coffee sweet taste
2.5 I’d call it green. A dubbel that has not fully fermented. Ugly bubbly head, no aroma complexity, some malt flavors... A poor representative of a great style.
3.7 330 mL bottle. Hazy brown. Not much head. Probably four years old, but holding up very well. A little sweet, a little herbal. Low carbonation. No off flavours. Good atuff.
4.1 Classic dubbel. Brown sugar and slight dark fruit. Easy sipping and more sessionable than most
