Adriaen Brouwer Dark Gold

Adriaen Brouwer Dark Gold

This Adriaen Brouwer, which is re-fermented in the bottle, is surprisingly complex. The nose of this Oudenaarde Brown beer features malt, caramel and dry fruit, with the merest hint of acidity. The finish is bitter-sweet, and the alcohol adds a warm glow. A balanced beer with a full mouth-feel. Could the painter and bon vivant Adriaen Brouwer have wished for anything more?

(Bottle 0,33/ 8,5%)
4.4 All vizits to Belgian Beer Weekands I begin near ROMAN stand with glass of Adriaen Brouwer. And I am not alone... One from the Best aroma and taste!
Metallische nasmaak. M: Semi-volmondig met medium carbonatie.
3.5 Very dark brown pour with a light brown billowing head. Classic Belgian yeasty aroma. Nice complex bitter taste.
2.9 0.33 bottle.A semi-hazy, dark crimson color and small, off-white head leaving no lacing. The aroma is made up of dark malts and not much more. A sweet taste of dark malts, yeasts, and some sugar. A medium body, a slick texture, and a lively to fizzy carbonation. Finish is alright, nothing special about it. Overall the beer could be much better - its carbonation level is a big blunder.
3.4 Bottle at home. Lively pour, red-brown and with a rocky off-white head. Malty aroma. Taste is sweetish to begin, then a balancing bitterness. Flavours of roasted malt, quite crisp, and with other hints of fruit, licorice and a light peppery hop. Rich and satisfying, very pleasant.

W zapachu karmel, owoce suszone, orzechy, przyprawy. W smaku słody i owocowość, karmel i orzechy trochę kawy i czekolada. Goryczka niska. Dość wytrawne. Wysokie wysycenie.
3.5 Bottle. BB 11.08.2016. Pours a beautiful ruby red-brown colour with a big, soft, beige head. Good lace and retention. The aroma is pleasant, sour redcurrant juice jumps out first, then dark fruits and caramel. Tastes sweet and sour upfront, with a bit of an unsatisfyingly abrupt and thin, bitter finish. Fruits, berries, caramel. Soft mouthfeel and rather active, thin carbonation. Overall very nice!
Geur: ietwat fruitig, moutig, kandij. Smaak: zoet, caramel. Niet zo volmondig. Weinig afdronk, behalve wat plakkerig zoet.
2.9 bottle at a bar, deep dark amber to more red colour with a tanned head. nose of caramel, sweet grains, and some chocolate. raisins, plums, alcohol is noticeable.
3.2 Dark with a lasting sudsy head. Faint aroma of alcohol. Moderately hopped, the over-riding flavour being of caramel. Quite heavily carbonated but a beer of this gravity can handle that quite comfortably. Fairly sweet with a medium bitter finish. Average-good Belgian strong ale.
Speciaal dus.
3.5 Appearance: Cage-n-cork. Dark redish brown, clear. Lots of light tan head. Aroma: Malt, fruit. Prunes. Taste: Malt, fruit, sweetness, molasses. Expected more. Bought: Total Wine (Sterling), 750 ml, $5.99 Info: 17/9-2015, 94/300M
3.2 33 cl bottle. Rather sweet, with thickish texture and bread aroma. Dry yeasty finish.
3.4 Bottle from the brewers shared at Dupont slightly hazy deep ruby brown with a fluffy beige head. Caramel and weetabix in aroma, moderate carbonation with slightly tart initial taste followed on by fruit and caramel, moussy carbonation, touch of molasses, slightly metalic in the finish.
3.4 Bottle, pours red-brown with a fine head, candy sugar and a little roast coffee nose, dry-sweet and peppery bitter, sweetish toffee and hoppy bitterness finish.
4.1 This dark ale pours with a great frothy head and a perfect dark brown colour. It has a sweet aroma but a bitter taste to the tongue and a lingering pleasent after taste.
2.8 Bottle. Pours dark amber with small beige head. Aroma is sweet, roast, bread, caramel, some alcohol, plums, berries. Taste is light sour with some sweetness, alcohol, caramel. Medium body. A bit to watery for me.
3.3 Clear dark amber liquid with minimal yellowish head. Aroma: caramel, bread. Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour. Palate: medium body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish,
3.3 33cl bottle. Bbe 26/05/2016. Poured brown colored, thick off white head. Floral hops, caramel, dark fruity notes in aroma. Flavor has brown sugar, bready notes, sweetness, spicy notes. Alcohol coming through a little, warming. Long sweet finish, some dark bread and gingerbread as well. High carbonation.
2.7 Bottle 33cl, kindly shared by Dominique. A clear amber beer with low head. Nose is phenolic, toasted malt and mint. Aroma is on burnt caramel, belgian yeast, sweet, industrial caramel body, astringent finish.
1.5 750ml bottle from Total Wine with a cage and cork seal. Solid pop of the cork, which probably hit the ceiling even though I thought I was holding it adequately. No foaming, but the aroma and flavor suggest a moderate infection. The aroma, in particular, has some of the floral, barnyard, and basement aromas from bacteria or, less likely, wild yeast. The bottle has a 11/13 date on the bottom and its been properly stored. Searching, I immediately found a report of another bad bottle, so quality control may be an issue. O: very disappointed.
3.4 Bottled during Brussels vacation. Amber with off white head. Aroma malty, caramel, light burnt sugar and yeast. Taste is sweet and malty, caramel, yeast, sugars, low bitterness and some fruit.
3.0 Deep ruby colour with large fluffy beige head that lingers significantly. Candi sugar, glacé cherries and belgian yeast in the aroma. The taste is very sweet, with plums, cherries, raisins, toffee and bready notes toward the finish. Very prickly on the tongue but full bodied and sticky. This one is too all over the place for me and lacks balance. Certainly not at all undrinkable but somewhat disappointing.
