The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack).

4.2 Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours mostly red-brown with a sturdy, frothy beige head. Medium sweet flavour with rich, vibrant smoked ham, toasted honey, biscuits, bread, earth, some leafy hops. Medium bodied with active, massaging carbonation. Sweet finish, more strong and lingering smoke, candied ham, burnt caramel, mild leafy bitterness, toasted grains. Great stuff. Earlier Rating: 4/29/2011 Total Score: 4.1 Tap at the Euston Tap. Clear, light golden-brown with a soft head. Mild dark, smoked malts on the nose, slight minerals. Pretty sweet flavor, some brown sugar, glazed ham, smokey malts, light grass. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. Smokey finish with lingering notes of honey-glazed ham. This beer is SO good.
3.6 Pours brown with a creamy nutty foam. Nose is mostly dominated of a light sense of smokiness, like more a hint of smoke than a wall hitting your nose. Mouth is malty, quite sweet, like worty bread, some smokiness, bitter almond. Quite pleasant and smooth. Enjoyable zipper.
4.0 En lättdrucken variant. Lätt rökighet. Vårig.
3.8 Poured from the tap. Clear amber with small off white head. Smokey, light bread and biscuit malt. Balanced, nice.
3.7 Glass at wildeman, dark ruby to brown beer, small head. Aroma is smoked, smoked ham, malt, wood. Taste is the same, sweet, malt, caramel, light smoke. Very good
4.1 This was the 2017 edition, drunk five years later. The result is a complex mixture of smoke and damp pine needles and half rotten leaves. This sounds bad, but was in reality interesting. The taste is earthy, malty and smokey.
3.8 Big bottle from Geers, wrong season for it but felt like smoking so here goes. Pours clear ruby brown, greige head, some rainbow shine bubbles, popping. Aroma of smoked ham, bonfire, roasted nuts, burnt wood. Upon drinking aroma's develop more sweet, salted caramel, smoked oyster, nutmeg and an earthy hop finish. Taste and carbonation are well balanced, finish is long. Mouthfeel pleasant, much more refreshing than the stout versions with smoked malts. Very well crafted rauchbier.

4.0 Bottle at home. Pours slightly hazy copper with dense off-white head. Aroma of caramel, smoke, dark bread. Tastes slightly sweet with balancing bitterness from both hops and the smoked malt. Medium bodied, smokey and bitter finish. A nice and well balanced beer.
3.7 Mostly clear brown with a tan head. Aroma is campfire smoke, dark bread, ham and wood. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter.
3.9 500ml bottle ordered from online store, drinking it on 29/06/2021 BB 10/2021 Pours a kind of clear copper- brown color with big frothy beige head on top and good lacing. Aroma is very smokey, notes of malt, meat, speck, ham, some caramel, bacon.. Taste again is quite intense on the smokey, roasted malt, speck, wood and bbq meat flavours, in a really balanced way, love the taste. Starts sweet and very drinkable and finishes more dry and bitter leaving again that great taste. Not the sweetest one they make. Medium body and quite rich but smooth mouthfeel, medium carbonation. So far one of the best i tried together with the Urbock and the Märzen.
3.5 Tap at Fermentoren, Copenhagen. Clear ruby, off-white head. Wood smoke, dark chocolate, Soft carbonation. Alright.
4.0 Litre plastic bottle from a keg, via LowCostBeer (so most likely out of date). Cloudy mahogany red/brown with a tan coloured head. The smokiness in the aroma hits you well before you get the beer anywhere near your nose, it's that powerful. Ham and leather come to mind in the flavour and it reminded me of my trips to Bamberg where I've surely drank this before.
3.3 June 2021 - lazy Friday. 1 litre bottle, bright filled by lowcostbeer.com from an unfiltered out-of-date keg/cask. Attractive carbonation. Fresh and in good condition. Smoky, but also sweet. An easy drinking Schlenkerla Rauchbier. Very likable. Some hints of artificial bacon flavouring. Not distracting. The litre is not going to last long..... [3.3]
4.0 500ml bottle from Seven Seasons, Hoxton, London. Dark brown + white head. Big smoked malt, big rauchbier smoke, burnt bacon, big umami, big burnt bbq, teriyaki sauce, brown bready, big bbq sauce, burnt, smoked red meat, light burnt caramel, light burnt toast. Crazy drinkable, awesome. Please just let me drink this all day
3.6 Thanks to Jan for the bottle. 50 cl bottle @ home. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour are malt, caramel, smoke, and bacon - with a dry finish.
3.6 Barwa miedziana, klarowne, piana w kolorze złamanej bieli, dość obfita, niezbyt trwała. W aromacie chlebowe, wędzonka w typie ogniskowym, kiełbasianym. W smaku słodowe, lekko chlebowe i karmelowe z nutą wędzonego mięsa. Goryczka niska do średniej, wysycenie niskie do średniego, ciało dość pełne. Przyjemne, zbalansowane.
3.9 500ml bottle brewed in Germany at 5.9%. 2021 edition, in April 2021. Metallic-ruby/light cola, fairly clear (this may be unfiltered, but like Hacker-Pschorr's Animator, it sure doesn't look like it - contrast with Schlenkerla Special Edition Lager) and, with an ample, decent-duration near-beige head. Somewhat syrupy smoke aroma, reminiscent of good quality sweet smoky bacon, only without the bacon, possibly a little sulphurous, with a thick brown bready malt lurking underneath. Modest carbonation, modest texture - both sufficient, yet both distinctly not overdoing it. A little sweet smoky syrupyness, well and truly counterbalanced by a rich wholemeal bread (with crusts) malt and some hops in the finish that hit just the right balance between floral and tinny. Simple, but very effective; the robust malt and well-judged hops needed to balance it mean that the smoke is not at risk of becoming overpowering. Classic 'liquid bread' in Rauchbier style - job done. (2018 edition, in October 2022): same appearance, though this time it turns opaque with all sediment poured; similar aroma, only now the bacon is actually present; some additional vegetal-smoke notes appear from pouring all the yeast in. Carbonation now decidedly low; texture a little more syrupy. Flavours have mellowed, especially the malt, being less punchily bready, and there's only the slightest touch of those floral/metallic hops in the finish now, giving the beer a more genteel feel to it, but the overall profile is the same. As in the aroma, perhaps the syrupy smoke is now bringing home the bacon, but it's far from overstated. Pouring all the sediment in muddies things considerably, and adds a sort of hybrid yeast fruitiness/tobacco/caramel element; probably best saving the sediment for last, or at least halfway through. For daily drinking, it's probably best fresh, but ageing a bottle a few years gives you more of a delicate smoky evening sipper. I'd rate the 4yo version 4.1.
3.8 Flasche 0,5l: Kastanienbraun, dunkles Mahagoni, klar, kräftiger stabiler feinporiger Schaum; leicht fruchtiger + sehr würziger Körper, dezente malzig-fruchtige Süße, dunkle Fruchtigkeit, leichte Zitrusnoten, kräftige Raucharomen, Schinkenspeck, Räucherfisch, Malz, Getreide, rauchig-würzige Bitterkeit; sehr würziger + kräftig rauchiger Körper, leichte malzig-rauchige Süße, kräftige Raucharomen, Schinkenspeck, Räucherfisch, Malz, geröstetes Getreide, cremig, deutliche Kohlensäure, leichte dunkle Fruchtnoten, Röstaromen; rauchig-würziger Nachgang
3.5 500ml bottle – Pours a clear coppery amber colour with a large lasting foamy beige head. The aroma is smoky, smoked cured ham, caramel and light roasted malts. The taste is sweet malts and smoke, sweet bready malt, sweet caramel and dry smoky flavours with a smooth sweetish and smoky finish giving a bitterish aftertaste.
4.0 Brown with a tan head. Aroma of smoke, bacon, toast, light caramel. Medium bodied, high smoke flavor, I wouldn't change anything, another god mode beer from them. Bucket list brewery that deserves more attention.
3.8 A smell of smoked malt and bacon, light bitter, very nice. The medium large white frothy head has a long duration, the body is dark red. A smoky taste, bacon and ham, light bitter and quite malty. The body is medium strong, creamy with a medium finish.
3.7 Piwo bardzo ładnie się prezentuje, barwa ciemno miedziana, piana dosyć obfita, drobnopęcherzykowa. W aromacie i smaku wyraźna nuta wędzona i słodowa.
Smak: mocno dymione, słodowe, karmelowe, niska goryczka.
