4.0 Old rating, 0,5l bottle @ home: Fyldig sødmerik lukt med preg av mørk malt, humle, salt lakris, mørk sjokolade, lettbrent kaffi, sitrus. Lett sødmerik smak med preg av mørk malt, humle, mørk sjokolade, kaffi, litt mørk tørka frukt, sitrus. Middels bitterhet som set litt. Veldig god.
4.0 Fra fad. Sort med beige skum. Aroma af kaffe, malt, mørk chokolade. Føles blød og tyk i munden. Smagen er præget af sød malt og bitter kaffe. Fuld krop.
3.6 Bevuta in bottiglia. Ottima porter. Poco aroma, ma gran corpo. Gusto liquirizia e caramello. No amaro. Da riprovare.
3.7 at home together with yves black colored body with an off white head and with a malt hop coffee chocolat aroma a malt hop chocolat sweet fruity coffee alcholic bitter taste with an alcholic bitter finish
3.6 Shared with Wim at his home. Dark brown colored beer with small off-white head and no carbonation. Malty fruited coffee roasted aroma. Full sparkling creamed palate. Finish is malty coffee bitter roasted.
3.8 0,33l bottle. Pours black with light tan head. Aroma of roast, coffee, slight vanilla. Taste is coffee, roasty, sweet licorice, slight caramel, Soft carbonation, medium to full mouthfeel.
4.0 Bottle. Beautiful beer, no booze for abv, strong in terms of aromas, nuts, pumpernickel, mild liquors. Plan to finally find the BA version of this great base before I leave this country.
3.7 Piana niewielka, szybko znika, barwa ciemno brązowa, klarowna. W aromacie trochę karmelu, trochę orzechów, trochę śliwki w czekoladzie... W smaku dość słodkie, karmel, węgierka i pumpernikiel, niska do średniej, tytoniowa goryczka, niskie wysycenie, dość rzadkie, gładkie w odbiorze, z lekko rozgrzewającym alko.
3.9 Copenhagen 2/6 2018. 33 cl bottle from Vinbørsen, Kbh Ø. Some kind of ornamental, weird horse on the label. Everything seems to struggle to look as Nordic and Viking-like as possible. Pours opaque, dark brown with small beige head. Settles as thin almost transparent layer of foam with a ring of thicker foam along the side of the glass. o lacing. Aroma is strong and dark. Heavy sweet, sugary. Caramel. Lighter notes of peat, dry tobacco. Bitter chocolate. Soft carbonation. Thick, soft, oily and creamy texture. A little sticky. Flavor is heavy sweet followed by quite strong chocolate bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with sweet undercurrent. Light alcoholic burn. Lingering for a long time.
4.0 Bottle at home from De Bierkonig, 31st May 18. Pours black, aroma is liquorice, chocolate, booze. Taste is liquorice forward, leather, coffee, dark chocolate, complex. Delicious stuff.
3.6 Like those friction powered toy cars I had as a kid, that with one push would keep going and going. One sip and the palate goes on and on, and on, coasting to a superb finish
3.7 Nearly black pour with no head. Roasty, dried dark fruit, chocolate, light coffee aromas. Taste is sweet, dried fruit, liquorice and chocolate, coffee. Practically no carbonation so it is very oily/syrupy - taste is really good but just a bit heavy.
3.7 Beer tasting at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark plum with almost no foam. Aroma is roasted, somehow fruity and licorice. Body is dense and sticky, with limited tickling carbonation. Taste is sweet and roasted, with some spicing going up your nose. Finish is long and toasted.
4.3 33cl bb08/2026, finale at DecTasting, merci LupuLust. - - Kort: likeable minimalist ImpPorter with earthy berry notes of cocoa, coffee and smoked ash notes on the clean palate of a Baltic Porter - took this for a lean Polish Baltic Porter. Accomplished balance between all elements, intensity of roast, terroir earthiness and only an inkling of heat in the throat.
3.6 Bottle. Dark red brown black color. Thin brown head. Taste is medium bitter, light to medium sweet. Thin to medium body. Aroma and flavour is coffee, vanilla, chocolate, liquorice, nutty, alcohol.
3.6 Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, tobacco, sugar, chocolate, some coffee, charcoal, syrup, liquorice, candied figs, touch of molasses. Flavour is quite sweet with an above moderate bitter finish. Body is above medium. Quite sweet and a bit syrupy, could be more full, then the chocolate kicks in. Nice!
3.2 0.33 l bottle brought by Višnja 666 and Pilot Goran from Oslo. Thanks. Dark brown to black, small beige head. Dried fruits, figs, light roasty. Sugary. Thick, strong, boozy.
3.8 Dec. ’16. A 0.5 l bottle at Birra+, Rome. It poured a pitch black body with a small brown head. Roasted malt aroma with coffee, caramel, raisins and some licorice. A bit peaty as well. Lightly sweet flavor, balanced with moderate bitterness, malty with lots of coffee, chocolate, dried fruits and peat to leather smoked notes. Quite complex, I should've elaborated this better but it was a rough day on my RB duty. Full bodied with round and smooth mouthfeel. Long finish followed the flavor with earthy and smoked notes besides pleasant roasted malty ones. No remarks on alcohol presence, but I remember it was warming. A pleasant, well crafted imperial porter.
4.0 Понравилось. Вкус терпкий, выдержанным, но вот цена конечно расстроила 500 р за 0,5...
3.7 Spisane z notatek, wypite na działce, butelka 330ml. Barwa brązowa, ciemna, ładna piana koloru orzechowego.Aromat czekolada z orzechami. W smaku słodkie, kremowe bardzo łagodne.Alkohol trochę wyczuwalny, bardzo dobre piwo.
3.8 330mL bottle from Bucketboys. BB 08/16? Deep near-black body, opaque, holds a ring of tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, meaty roast, dark toffee & earthy hop. Carbonation on the low side which works well, providing a very smooth, slick ride & deep richness to the palate. Flavours of dark chocolate, sweet black coffee, brown sugar, cookie, vinous dark fruits - develops as it warms, rather nicely really. Finishes on the sweeter side, just enough bitterness to balance. Very good overall - big without being brash or unapproachable.
4.4 Tap. Pitch black ale with moderate capuccino head. Aroma: molasses, caramel, dried fruit, minor coffee. Full body. Medium sweet bombastic malts on taste. Big molasses, caramel malts, chocolate, prune. Light bitterness along. Perfect porter.
3.5 Old note. The aroma has roast, coffee. Dark coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is light-moderate bitter and has roast, coffee, laurel, some fruity tones. Okay.
3.0 Nice, typical porter flavours. Toffee, choc, coffee. Maybe a bit of spice. Problem is this beer is just a bit too sweet...even for the ABV
3.7 Small head dark pour medium carbonation aromas chocolate dark fruits dates caramel licorice dried fruit flavours are cocoa chocolate dark fruit raisins figs dates licorice plums prunes good in fruit nice malt backing sticky note smooth going down resinous note good enough for me
3.4 Rating from old records. From bottle in porter glass. A fairly flat pour, CO2 struggled to form a head through the viscous black body. Choc malt aroma & taste, liqueur-like sipper
4.0 PINT tasting. Clear dark red brown, tanned foam head. Chocolate in aroma, some vanilla notes. Again chocolate tones in taste. A very nice warm beer, topper of the evening. (Arnhem 201707)
4.0 From a 330ml bottle on 18/7/2017. Pours dark brown with little in the way of head. The nose features light chocolate, caramel and cola. It’s very sweet flavour wise - more chocolate and caramel, with a distinct sweet meatiness, followed by a very mild roasty bitterness. The texture is a bit syrupy and the carbonation soft. A very pleasant sweet sipper.
3.2 Bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck, with the new label. A Norwegian imperial porter, with moussy, thick, pale greyish beige, lightly lacing, irregularly shaped head, quickly showing a big gap in the middle but otherwise well-retaining, over a very dark chestnut brown, hazy beer, close to black in general appearance but still largely translucent, with deep burgundy hue. Aroma of beef stock cubes, old dusty fondant chocolate bars, dried blueberries, cold sugared tea, candied fig, cold cappuccino, soggy brown bread, some natural ’haemoglobin’-like iron, raisins, dried plums, brown rum, dry earth, dead tree leaves, hazelnut shells, hints of dry manure, walnuts, varnish, nutmeg, mushrooms. Full, sweetish onset, dried fig and candied date, some light candied banana and pear hints, residual sugars but not too cloying thanks to a ’deeper’ blackberry-ish sourish touch, beef stock cube-like umami side effects (not surprising considering this is the first impression in the nose), full and smooth, rounded, softly carbonated mouthfeel. ’Fluffy’ but lean, ’brown’ malt body makes up the core business of this beer, very toffeeish and (chest-)nutty, with a dash of diluted chocolate milk thrown in, bready as well - as in moist brown bread. The sugary, candied fruitiness continues well over this, some spicy notes show up here and there, but long before the finish, alcohol gets in the way and eventually dominates, with a burning, wry, cheap liquor-like effect that heats not just the throat, but the whole mouth cavity. Earthy, yeasty, ’brown’ sugary, bready and malt sweet finish with a dash of herbal hop bitterness, sweetness still prevailing, but again the alcohol interferes way too much. Heck, I had beers of a higher ABV that did not taste this boozy... I hate it when alcohol is badly hidden and that is certainly the case here. Other than that, this is way too earthy and ’dirty’, with FFF-like notes in the nose which are anything but flattering. Drinkable alright, but far removed from the great imperial porters of this world - a style very susceptible to heated style discussions, I know, but from experience and having enjoyed many excellent examples from both the Old (Molen’s Tsarina Esra) and the New World (Ballast Point’s Victory At Sea), I expect an imperial porter to be clean and certainly not ’dirty’ like a mediocre Belgian quad as is the case here, with more emphasis on vanilla- and chocolate-like sweetness and less on beefy umami effects. An important technical flaw and an important ’style flaw’ combined: this is a bit of a disappointment. I guess Aegir still has a long way to go to reach the quality standards of their fellow Norwegians at Lervig, who doubtlessly can present a top notch imperial porter if they want to (shame I missed their collab with All In Brewing, apparently their only attempt at this style so far). Needs finetuning as far as I’m concerned.
