Against the Grain Citra Ass Down

Against the Grain Citra Ass Down

This beer is not candy or mother’s milk. It is not brewed by gypsies or aliens, nor does it contain any zombie dirt. This is an American Style IPA brewed with Citra Hops. It is citrusy, sticky, hoppy and delicious. Simply drink it and enjoy it. Don’t hoard this beer, Citra Ass Down and drink it now.

(Online description:) This is a very hop forward American style IPA. Brewed with Pale, Vienna, Munich and wheat malt for a solid base for all American hops, focusing mainly on the variety “Citra.” Citra hops are a relatively new variety introduced in 2008. It was bred as a hybrid of a number of different hops, including Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, U.S. Tettnanger, East Kent Golding, Bavarian, Brewers Gold, and other unknown hops. The resulting hop, Citra, has a distinct citrusy and tropical fruit flavor and aroma. In Citra ass down we used American Columbus for bittering and 11# of Citra at the end of the boil for late kettle addition flavor and aroma. Then we added 6 more pounds Citra and 5# Centennial post fermention for aroma. Rebrewed for your tasting pleasure!

3.7 16 oz can shared with the wife. Gift from my brother who lives in Kentucky. Pours an orange/straw with a one finger white head. Head quickly recedes. Citrus aroma with a solid biscuit malt base. Oranges, mango, apricot and other fruits. Flavor has some citrus fruit as well some candied fruit sweetness. Full bodied, sticky. Tasty!
3.6 can.. alko. coppery golden quite clear. some butterscotch, citrus, pine hoppy nice, bit stone fruity, sweetness. med full bodied, very smooth, easy drink. slight vanilla in finish. nice!
3.9 Can from Alko Arkadia, Helsinki. Pours dark amber with a medium-sized white head. The aroma features strong piney and citrusy hoppiness with some maltiness. Taste is initially light to medium sweet, displaying some caramel and fudge, before becoming drier and hoppier with especially pine and grapefruit having a strong presence. The finish is medium to heavily bitter. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, a bit sticky; average carbonation. Warming, a touch of booze in the taste as well. Properly intense yet quite drinkable American style dipa.
3.8 Pint can pours with a nearly clear deep gold body that supports a full near white head of foam. The aroma offers up some pineapple, apricot and faint orange wedges. The taste delivers a blend of orange juice, pineapple and apricot. To midway it picks up a thin bitter pine hop note and some booze that cuts into the juiciness and adds more depth. This works reasonably well.
3.6 An orange beer, a head is big and blond. Aroma has fruitness of mango and citrus, some fructose. Taste has fruitness, mango, medium bitterness. Medium bodied. Not too heavy. Good and fresh.
4.4 Beautiful beer, wonderful citrus notes, excellent strength, my kind a brewski
3.8 Can from simontomlinson. Hazy copper appearance. Aroma is tropical, malt, orange and grapefruit. Flavour is bitter, herbal, grapefruit, earthy, pine and malt. Cheers Si!
3.9 Keg at The Old Mill, Leek. A slightly hazy deep golden colour with a medium white head. Aroma of grapefruit, orange marmalade, pine, some resin, peach, barley sugar and subtle spicy, herbal hops. Taste of orange marmalade, peach, some pine, resin, grapefruit, barley sugar, maybe honey and slight spicy, herbal hops. Medium to full bodied and an oily texture. A long, bittersweet, barley sugared fruits and resinous hopped bitterness in the finish. A true American DIPA. Packed full of old fashioned US hops and a certain sweetness to balance it all out. Enjoyed this.
4.0 Drank this after a Citra NEIPA and alas, this wasn’t as tasty... the abv is invisible, medium bodied and the balance between hops and malt is excellent making it easy to quaff but there wasn’t enough Citra-ness for me. Still a solid DIPA but not a wow.
3.9 Burk 473 ml från Ales & Brews 8.2 % ABV. Guldgul och disig med fint vitt skum som lägger sig på insidan av glaset. Doft av humle och tropisk frukt. Smak av humle, persika, passionsfrukt, tall. Lite "blommig" i smaken.. Riktigt trevlig öl att dricka, men kunde haft lite mer beska. Att den har 8.2 % ABV känner man inte i smaken, men kanske i huvudet om man dricker för mycket.
3.7 (tap) clear, bright, orange amber colour with a small beige head; aroma of orange marmalade, honey; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish
3.4 27/4/2019. Can from Hopsters, Ipswich. Pours clear golden with a small bubbly just off-white head. Aroma of citrus, hops, grass, tropical fruit and pine. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium to full body, oily texture, average carbonation.
3.6 Tied in tap at BeerHeadz Lincoln. Amber colour with a white head. Aroma has lots of citrus. Taste light bitter. Full body.
3.3 Tap @ Taphouse w friends/Don. Appearance: pours slightly hazy golden with ok white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, light caramel, oranges, light citrus, grass, honey and herbal notes. palette: medium hoppy aroma, average carbonation, medium body, medium to notable sweetness, balanced by a medium to notable bitterness, average duration and a watery texture. Overall: smooth IPA
3.8 Very nice fruity flavor very juicy but not too juicy. Low carbonation. Very drinkable. Bitter finish. Well done!
2.7 Hops smell old along with a little toffee malt and burnt sugar. Flavor is like aroma, bittersweet, with decent carbonation and body.
3.5 Tap at The Dead Crafty Beer Co. Citrusy and husky aroma. Hazy golden color with small sized white head. Sweet citrus and grainy taste. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.4 Cans from Highland 6-17-16
3.7 Draft at BeerAttraction 2019, Rimini, Italy. Pours intense gold, transparent, with a good head of persistent and fine white foam. Aroma is hoppy, tropical, fruity, piney. Body is average, with moderate carbonation. Taste is bitter, with a long bitter finish.
3.6 Can from the Gavel Cafe, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, light citrus fruit hop. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter with a sweet grainy malt, tropical citrus fruit, toffee caramel palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.
4.5 On tap på Humle Ølbar i Næstved.
3.8 Can picked up from HonestBrew and consumed at Silver Dawn Cottage, Norfolk in the company of Scott, Mandy, Mum and Keith and the kids. Saturday 8th December 2018. Hazy gold in colour with a white head, sweetness shows the abv is quite well hidden, nice soft carbonation, some pine resin. Good beer. A7 A3 T8 P4 Ov16 3.8
4.2 This mf is sooooo orange-y. It’s pretty citrus on the nose but then the first sip like it is just sweet orange all the way through to the finish. Very mild dank ness and piney-ness. I mean this beer is spectacular.
3.0 Great hops, good beer. Medium body with a decent head. Quite sweet all the way through and then bitter. On the nose - grapefruit, citrus and passionfruit.
3.8 I've had this beer twice, once tn tap at Against the Grain Brewing Company brewpub in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, in November 2018, and then once in a 16-ounce can purchased in Plattsburgh, N.Y., in September 2019. This is a composite review. Pours hazy gold with a trace of off- white head and lacing. Aroma: tropical fruits, some citrus, honey. Flavor: honey, caramel, mango, pineapple, tangerine, passion fruit, pine, toast. Mouthfeel: medium- to full-bodied, slick finish, lingering bitter-sweetness with a dry palette.
3.7 473ml can. Pours amber with a slight haze and an off-white head. Aroma malts, pine, resin, grapefruit, caramel. Taste is sweet, malty, caramel, resinous, pine, grapefruit, citrus, orange, bitter hoppy finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation.
3.8 Very well mannered for a double. Hides it’s alcohol well with a smooth caramel malt backbone, kumquats and oranges and a bit of fizzy sweetness. Not too hop forward. Very drinkable for its strength but doesn’t stand out
3.1 1 pint can. A hazy amber pour with a thick beige head. A rich aroma of caramel, grains, grapefruits, pine, and zesty citrus rinds. Medium-bodied. The taste starts with some caramel and grains. An odd sugary taste follows. Zesty citrus rinds and artificial orange juice at the end. Excessively sweet from start to finish. WTF?! Not very good.
3.6 Can, thanks Walter. Nice deep orange pour, little beige foam on top. Sweet marmalade nose, orange rind, malty sweetness. Taste has some sweetness as well, light hoppy background there, fruity as hell, sweet tropical overripe fruits. Old style but nice orange and citrus zest with lots of malt sweetness. Tasty but maybe would feel a bit different when slightly fresher.
