Alaskan Freeride APA

Alaskan Freeride APA

Arguably the style that triggered the craft beer movement in the United States, the American Pale Ale showcases the floral, fruity, and citrusy aroma and flavors of Pacific Northwest hops in balance with a medium malt body.

3.6 Aroma: a little maltier than expected for an APA; note of lightly fruity hops; Appearance: light amber with thin, white head that dissipates quickly; Taste: follows nose with stronger hoppiness; pretty good; Palate: medium body with long, slightly bitter finish; Overall: solid APA; would buy again.
4.1 NW pale ale with new age Citra addition to classic Cascade and Centennial hops. Despite snowboarder on label, a nice summer respite from runoff of IPA’s still flooding market. Sours certainly seem to be chinking away at this homogeneous wave in craft beer resurgence this season as well. Also, since when can we have sports on beer labels? Was that not the whole issue with Alpine Extreme http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/paulaner-bavarian-alpine-extreme/15859/ making that such a rare find, esp with Texas “Malt Liquor” designation stamped on already rare label? Oh, damn, snowboarder was perhaps the old label found online, this one has a cyclist trekking on frozen water next to wall of ice, slowly creeping through time with immense energy eventually carving Deap Vallys grooves into the continent. Flown over the glaciers that perhaps found way into a batch of this en route to Asia. Clarity would almost make someone who regularly works 80 hour weeks impressed. Spans taste of classic NW pale and modern trend in new flavor discoveries. Leaves lace on glass the level of Vegas bachelor party after good intending attendee doing part by cleaning some of the lingerie before succumbing to out of element amphetamine come down sleep.
3.6 12 oz pour from bottle into shaker in Idaho. Solid APA. Fairly straightforward. A bit of fruitiness sweetness , a bit of hops bitterness.
3.4 12oz bottle. Very dry APA. Not the best I’ve had from Alaskan, but a decent beer none the less. Would probably get again.
3.3 (En fût à l’aéroport de Seattle): Des tons un brin dilué de fleurs et d’agrumes, de feuilles de thé et de terre sèche.
3.5 Bottle at Champs DTW. Hazy deep orange with a small off white head leaving sparse lace. Lots of citrus with a subdued caramel backing. Moderately bitter. Medium slick mouth with average carbonation and a long bitter finish.
2.6 Tap@Alaska Lodge (SEA), Seattle, USA. Medium aroma with a bit overaged mango and some resin. Deep golden color with minimal white head and clear liquid. Medium bit messy taste of fruits and citrus, some pine and resin. Unbalanced and medium/narrow taste spectrum. Medium aftertaste with citrus and some hops. Light/medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, bit messy underperformer, fresh though.
3.7 Surprisingly tasty, better than expected. Little citrus and fruity and good balance.
3.4 Bottle at st Patrick’s day party. Aromas of hops and citurs. Flavors were the same. Hoppy for an APA. Ok
3.8 bottle. Poured clear dark amber with a creamy lasting of white head. Bold citrus hop aroma. Medium-full bodied, creamy mouthfeel with a tart finish. Flavour is mainly hop dominated, earthy, with bitter citrus grapefruit and caramel malt.
4.0 It’s not bad - nothing to write home about, but not bad. Nice appearance with decent head and some lace. Aroma is malt and hops. Flavor’s similar to nose, sweet at first, then the hops, finishes with wet grain. Slight medicinal character there too.
3.6 Rating #1617 - CBC2015 Beer #2 - On tap in the Seattle Airport. Dark amber pour with a bubbly, lasting white foam. Aroma is sweet lemony, mild grassiness.Taste is a blast of citrusy sweetness, tempered by a decent punch of Centennial bitterness. A decent APA.
3.0 Limited smell. Light flavor, but good beer. Nice color. Not much hoppiness, more light malt.
2.8 Some light citrus and a lot of copper in this. Pours golden amber with great head and lacing. Light tangy finish. Really more like an English style pale. Tap at Alaska Lodge at SEATAC.
3.0 Pours clear copper with pine and citrus on the nose; moderate white frothy head; crisp palate with a hoppy finish.
4.6 Tried this on tap at the Alaska Lodge (Sea-Tac Airport) . Great smooth flavor with just enough hops to give it a nice edge. Nice beer to kill 3 hours while waiting for my next flight.
3.6 Bottle from Costco. Clear light amber with neat head that goes down at a normal rate. Med low aroma of citrus and tropical fruit hops with a low malt aroma. Taste also of malt and tropical fruit hops. Bitterness is too low, making the beer seem watery. Thin palate with no other sensations. Dry finish with no significant aftertaste.
3.9 Pours a clear, bright orange with minimal lace. Aroma is of fresh hops and vibrant citrus. Tastes of citrus with strong bitterness at the front end. Overall, this is a very solid, fresh APA.
3.7 Pours a chill hazed golden orange on tap with fluffy off-white head that dissipates to leave good lace. Aroma of citrus hop notes and biscuit malt. Taste follows, clean and crisp, easy drinker. Really nice for what it is.
3.7 Bottle sample in Sioux Falls. Clear amber color, light tan head. Aroma of floral citrus. Taste is fruity caramel. Decent.
4.2 Nice Hoppy aroma, with slightly darker golden color. Excellent hops with subtle malt flavor. This is currently my #1 favorite drinking beer. (Not a fan of the term "session" beer, It makes beer drinking sound too structured - "my friends and I have scheduled a beer session for 2 weeks from Friday"....) Anyway, this is a great and very drinkable beer - can be a little hard to find in Colorado. One more reason to move to Alaska.
3.4 12 Fl. Oz. Can. Poured deep golden in color, clear, abundant off white head, lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is mostly hops and some malts. Slightly bitter taste with some sweet malty notes. Quite easy to drink, very enjoyable.
4.0 This was the best thing in their mix pack. It pours light amber and presents a nose of hops and malt with ample, but not strong, carbonation. The taste is perfectly true to style with a caramel malt base, a bit of sweetness, and a balanced dose of bittering hops. The body is medium and quite sessionable. I would drink this often and it pairs well with many foods.
4.0 12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark golden color. The aroma is of dry hopping. The flavor is the same, nice bitterness and hop nose. I do not often drink this style of beer, but Alaskan has created a very nice APA.
3.4 12 can on a flight from Portland to Honolulu. BB 1/9/16. Clear deep golden color with a mid-size off-white head. Dark fruity hops, sweetness, tropical fruits and caramel malt in the aroma. The flavor is piney and fruity hops, darkness, moderate bitterness and caramel malty sweetness. 78 23 67 3 134
3.5 Hazy, light gold pour with a frothy, white head. The aroma has faint citrus and bread. It has a medium body with smooth texture and average carbonation. The taste is bittersweet with a quick, easy finish.
3.1 Golden Amber with thin white head. Lemon, mild floral, and mild caramel aroma. Medium bodied, lemon and mild biscuits, mild dryness, medium lingering bitterness.
3.0 An easy drinking pale ale that will is revolutionary but is good. This is very easy drinking and has some good mild hop flavors.
3.5 12oz can. Medium off-white head atop crystal clear amber body, nice lacing. Aroma is moderately sweet, pine, grapefruit, some bread. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some pine, light bread. Soft light-medium body, light effervescence, easy drinking.
3.6 Bomber. Pours clear golden amber. Aroma is pale, biscuit, and toasted malts, faint caramel, light citrus and floral hops, and faint pear. Flavor is good balance between dry malts and fresh hop bitterness with light sweetness. Medium body.
