3.7 Dark color tan head. Flavor and smell of dark malts and lean mouthfeel. Finishes roasty and crisp. Decent beer.
3.6 16 July 2015, tap at Alaskan Brewing Company. Ruby/brown. Nose is dark roasted malt. Med/creamy body and mildly fizzy. Dark malt, faint bread, some oatmeal malt, mildly sweet, Bly hints of chocolate bitterness. Nice.
3.5 12 oz. bottle. It pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is pretty balanced with some dark fruit, coffee and roasted malt. The flavor is pretty complex with notes of caramel, dark fruit, coffee cocoa and roasted malt. The dark fruitiness is front and center with very subtle roasted character which is a nice change of pace. Very drinkable. I liked this one.
3.5 Aroma: light toasted malts, some chocolate, light coffee. Appearance: black, small, creamy, beige head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: intense malts, toasted, bread, some chocolate, light finish. Overall: nice Sweet Stout, could be more intense. Pint at Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge, Seward area.
3.1 12 oz bottle. 6.2%. Bottled on 04/22/15. (White Cross Liquor) Las Vegas, NV. Black colour with a tiny tan ring. A mild aroma of roasted malt and milky sweetness. The flavour is roasted malt, vanilla, milky sweetness, mild coffee and some mild bitterness. Very easy to drink. Thinnish.
3.1 Pours pretty much black with an average size diminishing light-brown head. Aroma of caramel malt and chocolate. Taste is somewhat disappointing-- malt, a mild sourness and light hops but I didn’t get any coffee or chocolate and it’s pretty watery and thin.
3.3 Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Label States 6.2%. Clear, dark, chestnut brown. Halo of tan head. Light coffee. Milk chocolate. Oaty, milky sweetness. Drinks milky sweet. Light dry. Smooth palate. Soft carbonation to match. Ends light sweet. Easy drinking, albeit a bit one dimensional.
3.9 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 5/12/2015. Pours clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toast, brown bread, light smoke, light dark fruit, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toast, brown bread, light smoke, light dark fruit, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toast, brown bread, light smoke/dark fruit, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, balance, and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice oatmeal stout style. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/roasted/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
3.2 Best by date of 08.12.14. Poured from a 12 oz into a tumbler on 05.23.14. A: Midnight black with some red. It has no head but some fizziness when pouring. S: Roasty chocolate. Sweet smelling. T: Chocolate, caramel, and raisin are dominant. Char, apple, vanilla, and oak are subtle. M: Creamy. Has maybe too much carbonation for a stout. O: The roastiness is not overpowering. The oak quality was surprising. This is a go-to stout.
2.7 Near black pour with a one finger, creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, wet campfire char, a little spice and Riesens candy. Flavor is roast, roasted nuts, cardboard, dark toasted granola, caramel, cocoa, dark fruity esters, a hint of dark roast coffee and a sort of weird tart, electrolytic finish. Light, thin and dry body, medium to heavy, sharp and blanketing carbonation, dry, thin, chalky and slightly acidic finish. It is still pretty good despite many flaws, but due to being crazy thin, oxidized and oddly sour I think it is probably pretty old and possibly infected.... After checking the best by date it is nearly two months beyond that date, so I will revisit this one.
3.4 Aroma is dark malts, acidic fruit and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is dark malts, chocolate, mild coffee notes, fruit and a long and very acidic finish.
3.3 "as stouts go, this one is just ok...but i still like stouts. nice, roasted aroma. you have to work a little too hard to get to it though. medium bodied dry finish."
3.6 Brown black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is light chocolate and a hinto coffee. Flavor is semi sweet chocolate a touch of coffee with a good malt bitter finish. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. Pretty nice
3.3 Alaskan Stout (oatmeal stout); 6.2%; 12 oz bottle consumed in Redwoods Park. Opaque black-brown; weak tan head that leaves spotty lacing. Aroma: dark bread with hints of molasses, coffee and dark fruits Flavor: Does not deliver on the promise of the aroma. Moderate level of dark roasted malts flavor. Tame. Coffee. Faint, roasty aftertaste. Feel: medium-light carbonation. Medium-light body. O: OK for style.
3.2 Poured from bottle...pour is black with very minimal head....nose is smoke malt and anise....taste is smoke and malt....no real sweetness to this one...i get a light berry flavor at the finish....beer is nothing special....its not great...its not bad....very average in my opinion.
3.2 Smokey and complex with a smooth finish. This is a meaty brew that makes for a very drinkable dessert
2.7 its a standard stout with a medium mouthfeel of cocoa and lactose with rich malty presence. its got a standard flavor of dark malt. it works for the standard stout
2.6 The aroma is sweet and toasted with chocolate and coffee. The appearance is brown with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma and astringent. The palate is smooth but thin. Overall nothing special but is definitely a stout.
3.8 Bottle - Deep black pour with a thin filmy brown head. Nose is milky, with chalky medium roast. Chocolate and a touch of coffee. Roasty taste, dry and lightly ashy. Milk chocolate--pretty balanced between sweet and roasty. Medium body and smooth carbonation. Good stuff. Real easy drinking but pretty sweet.
3.0 12 oz bottle pours dark thin and black with lots of foam. Aroma is mild roasted malts. Taste is sweet, roasted coffee and oats. Ok.
2.9 Black-brown pour. Nose of light roast malt, brown sugar, cream, and cocoa. Flavor is cocoa/chocolate, brown sugar, and a trail of faint roast malt. Thin. Boring.
2.8 had as Oatmeal Stout, aged a bit if you will .. . pours a shadow brown .. light foam .. . mild oatmeal and some cardboard .. . mild, but the mouth has emptied completely .. . . attempted to put my socks on today without sitting down first. the result was a possible broken toe, a pulled hamstring and a busted lamp.
3.6 Nearly black, foamy cappuccino head. Copious lacing. Nose is reminiscent of Postum, a malt tea my mother used to drink. Notes of chocolate, roasted grain, and coffee. Taste is nicely balanced; quite sweet, but with some complexity. Full body, lively carbonation. Quite good brew.
2.8 Faint aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and some coffee bean. Ebony black in color, little to no head...tan in color. Sweet roasted malt is the first taste. Has an off flavor of wet cardboard. Flavors of dark chocolate, and coffee also blended in. Mouth feel is slick with mildly bittersweet finish. I will revisit again as I purchased from craft your own six pack section...may have been a bad bottle.
3.1 Pours a noisy black (glub, glub, glub noise) leaves the same color body with a decent one finger white foamy head, light adequate lacing; smell is somewhat roasty yet still the oatmeal is there and kinda comes through in a bland sort of way; the taste is better as there’s some bitter underones to it; slightly roasty; fairly easy on the palate; overall decent oatmeal stout but nothing special
3.6 Pours a dark brown color woth a nice head that faeds quickly leaving only bits of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate with a trace of coffee and bit of grain. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, chocolate, bit of coffee and caramel. Mild bitterness witha bit of a malty finish. Full body, smooth and creamy. Nicely balanced. Enjoyable beer that goes down easy.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is roasty with a lot of oatmeal coming off it. Taste is definitely oatmeal-filled, but with a slight bit of sweetness in there. Decent drink.
3.7 Dark brown with Ruby lowlights. Aroma of chocolate, oatmeal, dark roasted malt and cookies. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, oatmeal and light coffee with a faint bitter finish.
3.0 12oz bottle pours a black color with a brown hue with a small tan head that dissapated quickly and leaves light lacing. Smells of roasted malt, dark chocolate and oatmeal. Tastes of the same things in the smell, maybe a little smoke flavor there as well. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with light carbonation. Overall its probably one of my least favorite beers from Alaskan. Not much going on. Correction bottle says 6.2 abv instead of the 5.7 listed. Not going to seek this out again. Nice to try though.
3.2 Had while on an Alaskan cruise. Probably the worst one I had by the brewery. Not many flavors and the ones there were just weren’t quality.
