4.0 Bottle. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a nice foamy off-white head that lingers. Sweet aroma, of malt, dark fruits, sweet spices, vanilla, citrus. Taste is sweet and spicy, of malt, baking spices, preserved citrus, sugar, vanilla. Lingering sweet spiciness. Very tasty.
4.5 Bottle from South Bay Drugs and Liquor: Liquid poured as a dark leather brown color with a thick fluffy head, but it only took a minute or two for the foam to die down. In the aroma, my nose is instantly gratified with a chewy scent of German yeast and malts that contain memories of bubblegum, toffee, and raisin. The flavor is rich and sweet and is partly due to the authentic usage of German like malt that radiates an almost toffee brittle like taste that also taste as if its combined with sugar cube. Now considering the yeast, it is a gentle and soft strain compared to other weizenbocks and compliments the malts because of its sweet banana and bubblegum like corners, but deep in center is a pinch of spice and almost seems to fall under the pumpkin pie spice cabinet category.
3.9 Pours mahogany with a khaki head that rings the glass. Aroma has caramel, candied sugar and some chocolate and banana. Taste is sweet, but not cloying. Smooth and tasty.
3.9 750mL bottle, split several ways, pours a dark, dark amber brown with a small beige head. Was uncertain as to how this would have stood up over time given the style. Aroma of toasted nuts, caramel and grainy malt - very inviting. Flavour of toasted nuts, toasted malt and toffee. A little muffled, but also full-bodied and with a beautiful body. This has definitely held up and is a nice deviation from the other Decadence beers in terms of style. Excellent indeed.
4.6 Flavor and Aroma are full of malty sweetness with notes of dark fruit and a hint of caramel.
4.1 Sampled after aging for two years. Pours with a big head on it and a nice malty taste. Drinks with a big bite from the malts and you can taste the currents deeply embedded in the malts.
3.8 2009 pours a deep dark brown and reddish hues when put up to the light. A nice two finger white head is poured and sticks around for a bit. The smell on this one is full of dark fruits, caramel, and chocolate. Not at all what I was expecting in look or aroma. The taste is more of the same but I picked up some spice and banana to go along with everything else. This one still have a little in it and could of easily been laid down for a long time period. It still packed a bunch of flavor and alcohol even at 2 years old. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Coats the mouth.
4.0 Rating 1300! Bottle at home, from my Maudite glass. Pours deep clear brown, with a red flash; 1-finger tan head, spotty soft lacing. Nose is spicy wheat, red fruit, plums. Flavours of tobacco, leather, prunes, black walnuts, tar, berries. Killer brew!
12/13/12/14/12/13
3.9 bottle at mikkeller, clear amber, smooth offwhite head. Aroma is very delicately dark fruity, light, wheat, flowers, berries. Very very nice balanced aroma. Raisins. Flavor is dark fruits, raisins, pear, malts, very well balanced, fantastic weizenbock
3.5 750ml bottle from footbalm, thanks man Appearance: Pours clear dark ruby with a medium sized beige head and spotty lacing Aroma: Toasted malts, dark ripe fruit and sweet caramel Taste: Toasted malts, sweet caramel, raisins, sugar and some hot alcohols Nice, very sweet
4.3 Bottle, Thx very much Plovmand ! ....pours black with medium off white head.... the aroma is rasins, dark fruits, roasted malt, the flavor is roastey, dark fruits, banana, vanillia and some alcohol finish.....
4.1 Bottle. Pours almost black with a big steady creamy beige head leaving steady curtains at the glass. The aroma is quite malty and somewhat fruity. Sweet caramel, berries and the alcohol is lightly profound. The flavour is heavy malty and caramelish with wheat, banana and dark fruit. Light licorice and light coffee. Quite creamy textured. Long sweet fruity finish.
3.9 Deep dark brown coloured body with a hazy, muddy brown and ruby glow, all with a relatively thin tan and light-brown head. Aroma of strong alcohol, malt, pit fruits, earth, nuts and a decent amount of yeast. Pungent full-bodied; Strong yeast and alcohol flavours dominate with a lot of wheat and malt, prunes, pears and some spices touching as well. Aftertaste is potent and deep with the fruit and alcohol taking centre stage - a earthy bit at the end and some nuttiness noticeable, but the alcohol and pit fruits dominate. Overall, a nice and pungent beer with good flavours abound and a sweet, yet strong finish. I sampled this 75 cL bottle complete with gold top, purchased from the Olive Tree MarketPlace in San Diego, California on 09-February-2011 sampled camping in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia in July 2011.
3.7 From a bomber. Maple color with thin tan head. Nose is very winey and grapey. Taste follows the nose and is very dry. Not sweet enough for my liking but a modest beer.
4.1 Bottle from Bevmo! in Greenbrae. The beer pours a dark reddish-brown color with a medium thick beige head that recedes steadily. Strong banana aroma with notes of caramel malt and yeast behind it. Medium to full body with flavors of bananas and dark fruit primarily, plus bready malt, yeast and spices. The finish is fruity with a lingering dark malt aftertaste. Good beer through and through.
4.2 Pours a brown sugar color, with plenty of carbonation. Aroma of malt and chocolate and bananas. This beer has plenty of carbonation, but it somehow balances perfectly with the rich malt flavor, hints of chocolate and banana (the perfect amount), and somehow finishes perfectly dry and leaves you amazed and wanting more. This one was a great birthday treat.
4.2 Bottle @ home, courtesy of daknole. Thanks again for tracking this down! Cloudy, dark brown body with a brown head. Very nice, banana, clove, dark wheat, slightly roasty malty, banana bread nose. Pretty toasty dark wheat malty flavor with a bit of a twang, fairly strong banana, yeasty flavor with more of the banana and some bitterness on the finish. A little chewy, a little sticky mouth feel. Dark wheat, yeasty aftertaste. Awesome!
3.6 750ml bottle pours a hazy, burnt brown with a thin, cloudy off white head. Nose is very estery, banana, cloves, a little earthy, malty, overripe fruit. Flavor is malty, bananas, cloves, a little booze, rum. Full bodied, sweet finish. Good example of the style.
3.3 Thanks to overlord for the bottle. Served in a snifter. Pours a very dark brown with a half-finger of an off-white head and some spotty lacing. The nose smells like banana, clove, and too much roasted malt and chocolate for the style. All but the malt is a bit too faint for such a big beer. The taste has quite a bit of stronger malt and not enough yeast character. It’s actually pretty plain. Medium body with light carbonation. I don’t really have all that much to say about this. As it warms some more sweeter malts and dark fruits come through, but it’s still not all that impressive. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-29-2010
3.7 750ml bottle into my Rochefort glass...Tons of light tan carbonation domintes the pour, good retention, but a squeeky glass as it falls leads to poor lacing marks. However, when you swirl really nice lacing. Lightly clear beer, dark brown with purple highlights...Aroma is medium and very sweet, tons of caramel, figs, nuts, honey and banana. Really nice and balanced...Taste is lighter not as sweet. Light dark fruits, caramel, but shows off a lot of alcohol. Overall, its not a bad little german style, but not worth purusing because its a Decadence.
3.7 750 ml bottle, and I honestly can’t remember where I got it. Pours a clear, deep amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, bananas, peat, brown sugar, raisins, and chocolate. Flavor of bananas, caramel malts, raisins, chocolate, brown sugar, oak, and booze. Medium-bodied, with medium foamy carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. Good, complex, balanced weizen bock that’s drinking really nice right now.
4.2 Bottle shared by TPatuto - Pours rosy mahogany with a nice thin off-white head. Smell is yeasty, with a spicy cherry fruitiness, plum, dark fruit. Gotta say, I love AleSmith’s yeast. Taste is spicy, but super-smooth, cherry, yeast, bread, raisin, and just a touch of heat. Biting carbonation kind of distracts when it’s colder, but as it warms it smooths out. Wasn’t to excited about this one at all, but it blew me away. Yum yum yum.
3.7 Bottle shared at Paul’s tasting awhile back. Thanks to DaSilky for the bottle. Pours black. Nose and taste of licorice, toffee, grape, yeast, banana and wheat.
4.2 Dark cocoa brown with a large, medium-fine tan head. Full malt aroma with caramel, banana, and spices. Very well balanced on the palate with both a fullness of flavor and a sensation of lightness on the tongue. The dense flavor profile is slowly unpacked through the long finish. Delicious.
3.9 750ml. bottle .Poors very dark in color, has a familair smell of chocolate with a medium carbonation full body, creamy, long finish, black, frothy, pretty solid
4.2 Wow, surprised how much I like this one. Dark, slightly sweet grapes. Slight tartness, unbelievably spicy yeast strain. Just completely tears down the preconceived notions of what dark beer means. I don’t normally love Weizenbocks; the spice goes over the top, but somehow it works perfectly with the fruits.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a clear and dark reddish/brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is malt, dark sugar and fruit. The flavor is close to the nose with some additional sweetness. The palate has alcoholwarmth and sweetness. Overall a good beer.
3.7 Bottle @ Odense tasting. Dark brown body with a small offwhite head. Aroma is prunes, sweet pear, dark fruit and alcohol. Flavor is sweet fruit (pear), dark fruit and alcohol.
4.1 Bottle shared at Paul’s Thanksgiving tasting. Pours brown with a beige head. Sweet and yeasty aroma with banana and spices. The flavor is like banana nut bread, with spicy yeasty notes, cloves, and a dark candy sugar sweetness. Loved it.
