Deep blood-red in color, an intense aroma of pine and citrus from an abundance of American hops balances the sweetness and rich, bready flavors of this beer’s caramel malts. 3.7 Amber/deep red pour with a thin off white head and bands of lacing …. Aroma of pine, chewy caramel malts, toasted malts, biscuity, grapefruit, earthy hops, toffee and just what a hoppy red ale should smell like ….. taste is of pine, resinous, toffee/chewy caramel malts, toasted malts, biscuity, grapefruit and earthy ….. little rindy, sweet and dry …. Crushable …. Finish is of caramel malts, earthy hops and light pine …. Love these west coast hoppy reds. Simple and delicious
3.9 Red body with lasting thick head. Evergreen aroma. Smooth malty taste with a hop edge. Caramel notes.
4.0 Pours beautiful red amber honey color with good head. Rich pine and sweet malt aroma. Smooth malty amber with resiny pine bitterness underneath. Medium body, nutty finish. Great amber, not as hoppy as a Red IPA but more character anyways.
4.2 From a bottle to a glass. Pours a slightly hazy copper red color with a off white monster head. Aroma is piney type hops and some bready sweet toast notes and slight chocolate and darker fruits. Very balanced and medium mouthfeel. Tasty red ale!
3.5 pour deep copper hue with off-white head. it has strong hoppy aroma and fruity flavor of raisin and toffee.
3.4 Bottled. An amber beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, malt, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish.
3.7 Bottle shared at NYE, several years old. Hazy reddish brown colour. Frothy beige head. Aroma's: hoppy, caramel, slight oxidation. Retronasal: toasted bread, sweetish, roasted, bitterish, light oxidation. Flavour is moderate bitter and light sweet. Medium bodied. Quite bitter finish. Pretty good, despite the age.
3.6 Tap at Mikkeller Bangkok. Poured a hazy dark reddish colour almost brown with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is caramel malt, piney citrus woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, bready malt, fruity, dry woody floral hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.
3.5 Bottle. Pours murky amber-red with small foamy beige head, faint caramel aroma, adequate carbonation, medium bitter caramel malt taste with floral hops, thin body, long finish. Quite flavorful and tasty.
4.0 Bottle. Good example of what a red ale can be, Basically a Red IPA. Dep reddish amber hue. Deep malty backbone with roasted chestnut and caramel malts. Plenty of hoppy bite in the finish, Decent session beer - even at 6.6 ABV,
3.7 From backlog. Bottle shared with Bergstaden in Vista, ca. Reddis/brown with beige head. Malts, hops, pine, Citrus. Nice.
3.7 Bomber from Bottle Jockey in Burnaby. A dark reddish amber beer with generous golden head. Slightly hop forward here with citrus and resinous notes. Plenty of caramel malt in the background. 3.7
3.7 DATE: January 14, 2018... OCCASION: coming down after a thrillingly improbable finish to the Vikings/Saints game... GLASSWARE: Hop Devil nonick... pours a dark ruby red body, murky and foreboding--too dense to see through... the thick, creamy off-white head sits like a velvet cake frosting, and it laces like a stormy sky, and plateaus as a two-finger mesa--attractive! Immediate resin, spruce, and earthy malts leave the best impression; secondary scents of toasted malts that suggest soon-to-be-born bread, a little yeast funk, and some vegetable... traces of citric aroma, but not as much as expected... a creamy, frothy, breathy ale that is smooth, soft and extremely drinkable--nothing dead here, though a bit of butter accompanies the finish... a lingering, pleasant experience.... the flavor is resin, mango, peach, and light pine... the caramel promised is secondary, with the sweetness blunted by vegetable and toasted bread malts... I like the overall experience, with its creamy comfortably encouraging the next sip, and each sip lacking a bite at a middle-of-the-road ABV... ultimately, a beer that probably pairs with Autumn well; here in January, it stands well but not out--other ambers have been maltier, sweeter, hoppier.... this does enough to be in the second tier of that conversation...
3.7 Nice cider/ruby color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted caramel malt, pine hops, & fruit/citrus; Flavor of slight roasted sweet malt, caramel, spicy hops, fruit, and some nuts; Finish is dry & slightly bitter; Nicely balanced; Good.
4.6 Uzupełnienie profilu notatki. Piana obfita trwała, zdobi szkło. Kolor czerwony mętny. Aromat niesamowicie intensywne owoce, truskawki, poziomki karmel.
3.9 Strong toasted wood and molasses aromas along with equally strong hoppy notes from a crystal clear dark amber body with a reddish tinge. The taste is immediately sweet toffee and dark caramel quickly followed by a rush of green grassy and pine hop bitterness that balance each other and also fight each other for dominance. In the end, they do reach an equilibrium and settle to a woody aftertaste with a lingering bittersweet chocolate note. This tastes like a bigger beer than it is and it's one delicious monster. Happy Halloween!
3.7 22 oz. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, ivory head, with moderate lacing, over a clear deep copper (SRM 18) body........nose is toasted malts, with mild bread, pine, citrus from the hops.......taste is slightly caramel sweet, with further toasted malt tones, pine, resin citrus notes from the hops finishing with moderate hop bitterness, balance slightly to the hops......mouth feel, medium light body, minimal alcohol, moderate carbonation. This is a lovely easy drinking beer, with adequate complexity to be nicely interesting. BJCP 8/3/16/4/7
4.0 Pours a wonderful deep brownish red from a bottle, nice light tan head with beautiful lacing. Aroma is piney with a faint lemon/orange, flavor is similar built over a fine caramel sweetness. Very well-balanced, an excellent representative for the style, which I feel is not often done well. Very good beer.
3.9 Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Beautiful red-amber with a minimal tan and creamy head. Aroma is caramel and a bit earthy. Medium body, soft carbonation and a bit creamy on the palate. Moderately sweet with a nice bitter finish that's not overly long.
4.0 Keg at the brewery. Deep red. Nose is caramel, red fruits, resin, pine. Tastes resin, toffee, red fruits, smooth, warming.
4.5 Nice dark red ale. Citrusy flavor then finishes off with a nice bready, creamy malt. Very tasty!
4.7 Well shit, after a day of downing beers at Societe, I decided I needed to cap it off with 2 California Amber Ales. I double fisted a bomber of Evil Dead Red alongside Smog City’s Sabre-Tooth Squirrel. When family offers you free beer, it’s only polite to take advantage. Never mind the fact that I had to shrug off some disapproving glances from my immediate family members. This particular bottle of Evil Dead Red was a bit old but the essential character was still there. Fat, rich malts with big notes of caramel and chocolate. It finishes off with dank, earthy West Coast style hops - grapefruit pith, grass, and pine. Like the film that inspired it, this brew deserves its cult status.
3.7 Can web SB 2023-03-30 Göteborg Keep rating… Bomber from Mikkeller web cons 2016-07-10 Göteborg AR: red fruits, thick tropical fruit and orange zest marmalade AP: cloudy amber, frothy cream caramel colored foam F: tropical fruity pine, orange zest marmalade, warming feeling, sweet,
3.7 Malty pine hoppy nose. Pours a dark copper amber with a thick foamy off white head. Retention forever. Leaves a thick coating on the glass as it slowly fades. Smooth mouthfeel with a crisp slightly bitter finish. A hint of caramel. A fair hit of pine and some earth. Pretty solid.
3.5 Bottle at THT tasting. Old note. The aroma has caramel, cardamom, fruity tones. Bit hazy, amber-red coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is sweet, has caramel, spice. Nice one.
4.2 Beautiful beer! Soft and smooth taste with some caramel notes and flowery touches, full round taste that fills the whole palate. One of the best beers I’ve tasted lately.
3.9 Brought back from San Francisco by my son - thanks! Medium copper pour, bone colored head, nice lacing. Aroma has a very subtle sourness to it, some cherry-like fruity sweetness. Solid flavor, some caramel sweetness, hints of cherry fruitiness. light underlying citrus bitterness, Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Solid amber ale, as expected from Alesmith.
3.9 Bottle. Pour is dark copper/tan with a large bubbly off-white head. Notes of pine resin, caramel sauce, semi-sweet fruit, and earth. Finish is very sweet but balanced nicely by the hop bitterness. Big flavor and mouthfeel for an amber ale.
3.7 Nice cider/ruby color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of toasted caramel malt, pine hops, & fruit/citrus; Flavor of slight roasted sweet malt, caramel, spicy hops, fruit, and some nuts; Finish is dry & slightly bitter; Nicely balanced; Good.
3.9 Well the color has moved to a light cola. The head is frothy and asmall amount of lacing but the beer was still a hopped full bodied beer. It has a small bitter note at the end but otherwise still great.
