AleSmith Old Numbskull

AleSmith Old Numbskull

Bottle conditioned.

Caramel and toffee notes abound in this deep copper-colored American Barleywine-style ale alongside toasted malt and a hint of ripe dark fruits. Old Numbskull showcases malt sweetness, intense American hops, and an aggressive bitterness. Extremely well-balanced, the full-bodied mouthfeel and assertive hop profile leads into a deceptively smooth finish. Old Numbskull can be enjoyed now or laid down for years to come.

4.2 I wanted it to have more fullness and mouthfeel, to go with that outstanding aroma and lovely looks. However the underlying alcohol tang made it less enjoyable, not hugely but. Did only that warmness though at the very end and back of the sup. I liked it the more it warmed up, which was in parallel with the amount I drank :-)
5.0 140419. Bottle at home (aged a few years). Pours clear mahogany with a small head. Aroma ripe fruit, raisins, some hops. Sweet with a hint of alcohol. Tears of joy drip into the glass. It's like suckling the tit of a fair maiden. Staring hard at the perfect figure of the female form. The farm party suffers a land slide loss and the beer gets even better. The Finnish Women's hockey team win the world championship (it was a goal) and it gets to orgasmic levels. Sadly I have to go to work tomorrow. Not Bad.
4.0 Bottle @ DØE tasting, No5. Orangey w a small head. Aroma heavy malty (caramel, roasted, dark fruit), medium+ hoppy, some alcohol. Flavor medium+ sweet, dark fruit, ending medium+ bitter, some warming alcohol. Almost full body, soft carbonated.
4.0 750ml bottle. Pours brown orange. Caramel, biscuit, strawberry, orange, grapefruit, pepper. Good full body. Very nice.
4.5 Aroma: clean floral hop on top of cooking toffee, molasses and balanced spirit App: ruby brown, sheet lacing Flavour: multi layered hop and malt, toffee Palate: super long finish
4.3 Mahogany brown colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour are packed full of sweet malts and sweet dried fruits. Lots of sherry notes. Light bitterness in the finish rounds it off well.
4.3 25cl van de tap bij Zeezicht, Breda Alcoholpercentage van 11% Uitgetapt in Zeezicht glas Uiterlijk: koperbruin met goede witte schuimkraag Aroma en smaak: neus is caramel, zoetmoutig, donker fruit, smaak is caramel, snoepjes, wijnbal, alcohol, volmoutig, plakkerig Conclusie: volle barley wine erg goed
4.3 (AleSmith Old Numbskull) Bottle 750ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 11%. Dark brown colour on the body, small tan head on top. Aroma of caramel, fudge, dates, toffee, light alcohol. Taste is sweet and a bit boozy, with dates, sugars, figs, alcohol, caramel, toffee. medium body, good carbonation. Nice one.
4.1 Wreszcie barley wine niemal całkiem wytrawne, brawo, oprócz klasycznych kandyzowanych owoców super pracujaca goryczka, bogate, zbalansowane i zniuansowane piwowino.
4.0 Pivo u flaši. E ovako ja nekako zamišljam "praavi" Barley Wine. Voćno karamelasta i malko kvasna aroma. ..i tako.... baš me interesira kad ću popiti bolji Barley Wine :)
4.3 Otra crema de estos tipos! Cobriza, densa, algo turbia, maltosa y seca...
3.7 Appearance: Hazy light brown, small off-white head. Aroma: Sweet, over-ripe fruits, some alcohol. Taste: Sweet, ripe fruits. Slight alcohol. Bought: Shared by Julien C - thanks!, 750 ml Info: 22/11-2018, BB: ??/??-????
3.9 Was certain I've had this previously but there you go. Super high powered shit. Creamy deluxe palate with toffee apple laid on thick, super low fizz palate. On your ice cream material. A little funky to finish. Excellent beer or should I say dessert wine?
Føles blød i munden, meget sød. Karamelmalt dominerer. Fuld krop, lang finish.
4.2 Amberkleurig met off-white schuimkraag die langzaam inzakt. Aardbei, rood fruit, caramel, toffee. Hele lange mild-bittere afdronk. Zeer mooi in balans. Top.
3.8 Official description is nearly perfect, except maybe “aggressive” bitterness. Tasty malt bomb. Otherwise, no point to repeat the description from a bottle.
4.7 (superbe raisin, myrtille, mûre, fraise, > ronde, savoureuse, > maltée (maische), finale veloutée ~amère, alcool)
4.0 Czarna porzeczka, czechosłowackie landrynki, śliwka. Trochę pieprzu. Alkohol nie wyłazi. Gładkie.

4.7 A rich symphony of malts brimming with toffee, tobaco, toffee, butterscotch, chocolate ganache, and dried fruits like dates, prunes, and sultanas. Piney hops complete the picture with a beautiful freshness. Stop swooning over the aroma and have a sip, and the tongue will be greeted with a brilliant malty sweetness expressing all those amazing things the aroma was promising. A hefty bitterness and booze keep things interesting. The mouthfeel is medium to heavy, just slightly south of perfection. Christ on the treadmill, I'm weak for a good barleywine.
3.9 Excellent barleywine, nothing life-changing but hitting all the notes you want in a heavy-duty malt monster. Drips with caramel, toffee, and dried fruit notes, countered by a moderate pine bitterness laced with modest citrus and a warm, boozy back end. Pours a lovely red-brown with a permanent white head and tons of lace. Caramel-slathered bread nose is delectable. Thick, chewy texture screams barleywine. Tasty.
4.3 Brązoworubinowe piwo z niezłą pianą. Aromat żywicy, iglaków potem suszone owoce, trochę karmelu i toffi. W smaku rodzynki, miód, karmel, przełamane gorączką chmielową i cytrusami. Gładkie pełne, świetne piwo.
4.3 Hazy, dark copper color beer with a beige head. Nose: Raisin, plum, ripe apples, caramel malt, brown sugar and some leather. Taste: Raisin, fudge, plum, molasses, dark fruit and old hops. Mouth: Full body. Light carbonation. Well hidden ABV. Bittersweet ending.
Nagazowanie oczywiście niskie, a alkohol idealnie zakamuflowany. Do tego spora piana. Świetna sprawa.
3.9 Backlog. Pite przed założeniem konta na Ratebeer. Ocena do uzupełnienia profilu.
