AleSmith Speedway Stout - Kopi Luwak

Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout is our award winning year round Speedway Stout with Kopi Luwak Coffee. Considered on of the world’s most expensive and rare coffee varieties, the beans are specifically selected for their ripeness and quality by the civet, a small jungle marsupial that feeds of the fruit of the coffee cherry. Expertly roasted by San Diego’s Ryan Bros. Cofee leads to an extremely aromatic and excetionally smooth final product that complements Speedway Stout exceptionally well! Good to the last Dropping!

3.7 Bottle at craig’s. Pours black, nose is chocolate, toffee, soapy, taste is chewy toffee, chocolate, coffee, roasted.
4.1 Dark opaque brown, light brown ring. Soft spicy roast if a nose. Initial taste is lean choc, spicy and light smoke. Carbonation is a soft enough buzz and oily, gritty mouthfeel. Finishes rich decadent roast, uncomplex linger and warm spicy jitter. Bottle, Speedway Tasting
4.1 Pours opaque black with a brown head. Aroma is caramel, oak, vanilla, leather, cocoa and coffee. Taste is coffee bitter, cocoa bitter, cocoa sweet, vanilla, leather, oak and slight tartt red berry. Full body.
3.9 Bottle. Black with tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and licorice. Taste is rich, coffee, chocolate, roasty. Slightly sweet. Full bodied and clean. Nice
4.2 Pours jet black and opaque with a 2.5 finger, frothy beige head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention for the style and ABV. Large chunks of of soapy lacing coat the glass on the way down. Looks incredible. Deeply roasted dark malt aroma with a perfectly roasted coffee bean presence integrated into the other dark malt notes. Really nutty with hints of hazelnut roast, burnt toast, powdery dark chocolate and espresso bean. There’s also some subtle lactic cream that adds another dimension to the nose. Great roasted coffee presence but it doesn’t completely dominate or overpower the other elements. Very inviting. Chewy full body with a prominent roasted gourmet coffee beam flavor that lingers troughout. Really coffee forward/dominant with lots of dry, bitter roast but it never becomes overly bitter or acrid. The silky chocolate malt notes come in along with lactic cream and roasted nuts in the back end to round things out. Heavy bittersweet dark chocolate flavor that tastes like a 75%+ cacoa chocolate bar with burnt toast and fresh gourmet coffee bean followed by caramel sweetness, toffee, lighter, silky chocolate notes and lactic cream. Really roasty but nicely balanced considering how strong the coffee flavor is. The high ABV is excellently masked with surprisingly no heat at all. The prominent coffee flavor makes a little strong on the roast but this is a really flavorful, well made beer that I enjoyed drinking.
4.1 Bottle thanks to Zakoon @ CBC Volunteers Party. Pours a pitch black with a tan, creamy head. Aroma has roasty malts, coffee, caramel, prunes, dates, slight licorice and some dark chocolate. Taste is roasty, dark malty, dark fruits, salt, hints of smoke, lots of pretty hard roasted coffee. Pretty sweet. Smooth body, low carb. Expected more, but still a good beer.
4.3 Bottle thanks to Zakoon @ CBC Volunteers Party. Thanks so much for this brother! Pours pitch black with a big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, dark fruit, prunes, dates, coffee, roast, malts. Taste is dark chocolate, bitter coffee, roasty, dark fruits, raisins, slightly hoppy, earthy, skunky, sweet licorice.
3.9 Consumed like 2 years ago, from a bottle. Poured a smooth dark, almost black-brown color with a nice small brown head. Aroma was rich coffee and chocolate, dark, molasses malt notes to it as well. Flavor was chocolate, roast and of course, coffee.
4.3 Bottle @ 3/4 Dangerous Bottle Shares! does Copenhagen minishare. Pour is pitch black with some tiny tan lacings. Loads of roast, dark chocolate, freshly ground coffee, vanilla fudge and some dark dried fruits. Awesome!
4.4 Bottle. Pours thick pitch black with thick mocha head. This beer is pure decadence. Aroma has some liquor at first, cocoa, fruity figs, burnt figs, coffee berries. All this on a malty roasty background with tons of fresh pressed coffee and fresh grounded beans. Taste is same, awesome balance. Really fruity coffee, rosy malts, cocoa and chocolate. Quite some fudge and caramel notes. Light body for abv with light carbonation, almost coffee like. Finish is roasty and lasts for a long time. Warming, yet no presence of alcohol.
4.4 Bottle enjoyed @ CBC Frivillig fest. Pours pitch black with a creamy beige head leaving some nice lacing. Aroma is dates, plums, prunes, coffee, roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate, coconut and some earthiness. Flavour is lightly sweet and light bitter. Full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Finish is the same as the aroma with a nice warming alcohol touch.
4.2 Bottle @ CBC volunteers party. Thanks christian. Pitch black, medium tan head, great lacing. Aroma, roasted malts, fruity, coffee, chocolate, . Taste, roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee , fruity, some more coffee, . The body is light, like a cup of coffee. Dry mouth feel.
4.3 750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Jet black with a nice khaki head. Great retention. Chunky bubbles on the surface. A little bit leggy on the swirl. Intense coffee aroma. Reminds me of Vietnamese Speedway, which shouldn’t surprise me. Slightly fruity coffee notes. Deep chocolate. Very intense coffee flavor, same slight fruity character as the nose. Nice chocolate and deep roast. Delicious, but very coffee-centric. Chewy. Nice body. Intense bitterness, as much from the coffee as anything. Delicious, but not significantly better than regular Speedway.
3.9 I am not sure if the 2011 bottle was too old but I enjoy the regular Speedway Stout over this.
4.2 Bottle split between two snifters. Pour was an oily black with a two-finger mocha colored head. Nice lacing, nice legs and solid retention. Aromas are of coffee, chocolate covered cherries, roasted hickory notes and a note of molasses. Taste is incredibly balanced. Loads and loads of coffee hit the palate. Both bitter and sweet notes. Espresso like. Chocolate, anise, dark fruit...an alcohol note, but very well hidden....brown sugar, marshmallow and some roasted nuttiness round the body out. Nice velvety mouthfeel...moderate bitterness and a lingering chocolate note. Great beer!
4.0 Bottle thanks to Gibson. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head that lasts leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is strong roast coffee and toasted biscuit. Medium mouth with sweet roast, nice bitterness from the coffee, toffee, dark chocolate, very nice.
4.1 Bottle can’t remember who sent me this...but thanks! Apperance is black with loads of dense mocha head. Aroma is of coffee, ash, black liquorice, and chocolate. Taste is rich coffee roast, black liqourice, and ash. Finishes with a touch of bitter coffee while managing to stay smooth with a lingering bitter aftertaste. I was worried about how this was holding up given I’ve had this bottle for a few years now but man this is tasting great. Really nice balance with the coffee, no hint from the alchlol content, this is exactly what I was in the mood for after a really long day. Excellent!
4.7 Bottle from a share awhile ago. The thick body pours a jet black into snifters with a very small but defined mocha head. The aroma is a chocolate bomb with cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, coffee beans, monkey shit, vanilla, and roasted malts. The taste is just chocolate goodness, chased by a coffee with slight bitterness. Vanilla and roasted malts hit the palate as well. Serious mouth, very thick and oily. Wonderful.
3.8 At Jacob’s house with group. Dark roast, burnt char, some coffee notes, good medium body
4.1 On tap at Mikkeller bar, San Francisco. Pours pitch black with a very pretty tan head. Aroma is tons of coffee, big roasted malty character and chocolate. Flavor is coffee up front, lots of roasted malts, and chocolate. Full bodied and amazing.
3.5 Backlogged rating from the RBSG 2014: Expected color and some head but not much lace, nice oily tears. Big time coffee overtones on both the nose and palate. Heavy roast, char, leather and ashy notes too. A bit herbal however and a major disappointment. Chewy someone dry mouth feel. For all the hype that this beer brought, it failed to meet them. Give me a regular old Speedway over this.
4.5 Poured from 750 bottle, thanks Willrunforbeer. Pours dark chocolate with rich brown head. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Taste is smooth and silky, like the Patriots trouncing the Colts 45 to 7. Notes of chocolate, coffee and an exceptional finish. This is a super beer.
4.2 750mL bottle from trade. Thanks dogday! Pours nearly black with a chocolate brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, molasses, coffee. Taste is nice and smooth, chocolate leading into a very nice coffee flavor with no astringency and just the right amount of bitterness. A little licorice on the finish as well. Great impy stout!
4.7 Watching Bucks vs Ducks in NCAA Championship 2015! Bomber to a snifter. Viscous black pour with ample mocha head and lacing. Classic dark chocolate, caramel and dark roast coffee notes. That Civet knows how to pick the beans... Prominent coffee presence with warm boozy slightly bitter finish ... A huge stout, one of the best... Go Bucks!!!
4.2 bottle in a trade thanks to fireslayer. shared with 2 friends. poured a dark black colour with a sticky fluffy mocha head. lot’s of red fruits of the kopi luwak coffee, a really fruity coffe, with not your normal roast coffee kick, roasted malts, caramel, dark coffee, vanilla, toffe, a lot more flavour as it warms a bit. sweet bakers chocolate, cacao, licorice, fruity dark espresso, molasses, bit low carbonated. but it’s just a incredible version! I can’t wait to pop my BA version of the kopi luwak! i really like the coffee they have used in this version! very good!
3.9 From a 75 cl bottle, courtesy of _angst_. Black with beige head. Chocolate, coffee roasted malt aroma, slightly boozy, some notes of gunpowder. Full bodied, low to medium carbonation. Dry with slightly salty bitterness.
4.3 Bottle received in trade. Thank you biggsbowler! Pours black with a frothy mocha head that leaves a small spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, moist soil, chocolate covered cherries, wood and hints of alcohol. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, malty and tiny fruity with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, burnt wood, dark roast coffee, bitter, chocolate, chocolate covered cherries and hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny tart slightly astringent and near full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, burnt caramel, toffee, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, dried cherries, moist soil and hints of alcohol. Top notch IS!
4.5 (Bottle) Pours black with a pale brown head. The aroma holds balanced but robust coffee profile, fruits, dark chocolate and a touch of alcohol. The nose is not über complex, yet perfect in balance, just as I like it. The flavour is light to medium sweet, medium bitter and a whisper of acidity. Coffee, balanced roast and balanced hops. The mouthfeel is fat, round and valvety and soft carbonation. Fantastic, complex finish. Near full bodied.
