AleSmith Speedway Stout - Mokasida Coffee

AleSmith Speedway Stout - Mokasida Coffee

Taking its name from both Mokha, a historical port city for the distribution of African coffees, and the Sidamo province in Ethiopia, Mokasida is a regional blend of coffees that showcases the subtle characteristics of East African beans. When paired with the chocolate and roast character of our imperial stout, Mokasida imparts notes of cocoa, blueberry, and sweet potatoes to make a truly unique beer.

4.0 Tap @ Beer Temple. Black. Coffee, Caramel And dark chocolate in the aroma. Roast, dark chocolate And coffee in the very Smooth flavor. Quite likeable.
4.2 On tap at the BeerTemple. Compared to the regular speedway stout this is maybe lacking a tad in complexity and depth, but the Ethiopian coffee (my favourite region for coffee) is showcased beautifully. Indeed those hints of blueberry that are a feature in some naturally processed Ethiopian coffees is there, both in aroma as well as flavour, as well as a truly smooth coffee flavour in general. Some acidity too, which is not really surprising. Not quite as well-rounded as the regular or some other versions but very nice if one likes Ethiopian coffee
4.1 Keg at Cotteridge Convention 2017 - cheers! Pours oily black with a creamy, beige head. Good rich roast in the aroma, coffee, ash. Big sweet flavour with lots of burnt sugars, ashy roast, mocha. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, lightly sticky, more ash, bittersweet cocoa. Good stuff.
4.2 Tap at BeerTemple. Black with tan head. Big sweet deep roasted chocolate malts. Coffee, moccha, dark candy. Big sweet and roasty bitter. Full body and soft creamy feel, soft carbonation.
3.9 On tap at BeerTemple in Amsterdam, with markoijelena (ciaone). Black pour with a ivory foam leaving lacing on the glass. Nose: grounded coffee, a bit raw, sweet frappe. Mouth: clean roast, cappuccino, it ends predominantly coffee.
4.2 Alkohol: 12% obj. Kolor: Czarny jak kolor skóry Etiopczyka. Piana: Co prawda nie jest ona zbyt wysoka, ale gęstości można jej pozazdrościć. Beżowy kolor i drobna tekstura. Mistrzowski lacing! Zapach: Nie mogło być inaczej - głęboki aromat mocno palonego ziarna kawy. Wysoki stopień nut owocowych: amerykańskie borówki, ciemne winogrona, jeżyny. Zaraz za nimi podąża woń mlecznej czekolady, ziaren kakaowca i melasy. Głębiej odrobina sosu sojowego i ciemnego chleba pumpernikiel. Dodatkowo profil urozmaicają posmaki wanilii i melasy. Tekstura gęsta i oleista. Stout szybko znika ze szkła. Wysycenie: Niskie.
Very smoky and roasty, with raisin, prune, coffee and chocolate. Full chewy mouthfeel. Excellent.
4.4 Jet black pour from yellow brick. Nose is just like the regular speedway but just a bit more mellowed. Body is thick and delicious. Would love to do again.
4.2 Jet black, no head. Thick, chocolate, smooth, subtle berries. Sweet Coffee is very mild. I dig this.
3.2 (bottle) Aroma: tomato juice, uber roasty coffee. Taste: rather dry, flavour of dark malt, coffee beans and tomatos. Palate: medium body, medium carbonation. Overall: Another Speedway another dissapointment.
4.0 My Bottom Line: Roasted cereals, molasses and coffee ride the softest of mouthfeels in this unsurprisingly accomplished coffee-infused Imperial Stout. Further Personal Perceptions: -A sheet of foam tops the blackness. -Alcohol burns in the finish. -Sugary notes are quite important, but work well with the malts and coffee. -Can’t say this is hugely different from the regular Speedway. But a side-by-side tasting would take care of that impression, I’m sure. Bottle.
4.1 It pours very dark with a tan head. The aroma has a ton of coffee and dark chocolate with some toast and great underlying imperial stout. It has a full rich body with moderate carbonation. The taste has the aroma with more sweetness and then lingering bitter coffee. Wonderful. And why didn't I have this as #7000???? Oh well.
4.0 bottle shared by tom10101, thanks man! pours unclear medium dark brown with a creamy beige head offering good retention and lacing. complex caramel layers, gently salted, semi-sweet coffee, not a full city roast, nut spread, spicyhot peppers, never vegetal, pepper. moderately low carbonation, medium body - very oily; semi-sweet woodsy-tingling-spicy finish. dense maltiness as usual, with very smooth textured salted caramel with a good shot of italian-extracted coffee.
4.0 Pitch black pours with a creamy and smooth mokka head. Aroma has punchier coffee than the regular. This also has s meaty depth and nice roast espresso bean and malts. Taste has richer coffee than reg Speedway and also a little sweeter which is great. Mouthfeel is medium rich with creamy carbonation. Coffee aftertaste. This is a good coffee stout.
4.0 12/28/2016 -- from notes: 10oz on tap at Lucky Dog Grille. Black color, with a good light brown head. Leaves good lace. Nice complex coffee aroma over top the roast malt -- seeing that blueberry. Earthy, roasty, cocoa. Bigger body, kind of chewy, kind of slick on the palate. Kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Moderate sweet taste, but not at all sugary nor cloying. Drinks heavy and thick, but otherwise hides the alcohol pretty well. No burn nor bite and little warmth even, for the 12%. Moderate-plus bitter taste balances out the sweetness a bit. A great coffee imperial stout. Another solid speedway variant, with an interesting coffee feature.
3.6 Bottle. Fairly mild compared to other Speedway variants. Subtle coffee and chocolate. Quite tasty, but overall not a standout compared to other versions.
3.7 On tap @ BeerTemple. 15cl sample. The aroma has roast, coffee, vanilla, hint of fruits.Black coloured beer with not much head. The taste is sweetish with bitterness, some roast, coffee beans, hint of fruit, chocolate. The body is not as creamy as the original, lighter actually.
3.8 On tap at Beer Temple. Black, no head. Aroma of cola, coffee, roasted malts, later on more chocolate and some bourbon notes. Flavour is sweet, roasted malts, some green coffee, coffee, dark chocolate. Medium bodied. Totally different from the original.
4.2 On tap at the Beertemple. Very dark brown pour with a thin, fine-grained tan head. Notes of chocolate, cocoa, roasted coffee beans, brewed coffee, light smoke. Silky-smooth texture, full body, low carbonation. Excellent mouthfeel, nicely balanced aromas. Very nice!
4.3 November 11, 2017 - tap at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Black pour with nice head. Aroma was roast, chocolate and coffee. Taste was consistent with aroma, but also had light fruit. Came 4,000 miles for a Cali beer, nice.
4.3 16 ounce prowler into snifter, filled on 11/4/2017. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a small dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big nutty medium roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, cream, brown sugar, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, molasses, raisin, berries, herbal, wood, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge nutty medium roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, cream, brown sugar, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, molasses, raisin, berries, herbal, wood, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very mild herbal hop and roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, cream, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, light dark fruit/smoke, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light earthy hop flavors; with an awesome roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Slight slickness, chalky roast/coffee, and hop stickiness. Alcohol is very well hidden; a mildly increasing warmth of 12% lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing imperial coffee stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Not quite as amazing as the base beer, but unique in it's own right. Not as intense on the nose, but carbonation may be the factor. The African coffee adds a unique intensified dark fruit/berry note to the beer; and you get the same backing malt complexity otherwise. Not as intense on hop character and roast/char bitterness as well. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.
3.7 Tap. Nice and strong aroma of coffee, some chocolate, caramel. Taste is nicely balanced between bitter and sweet. Nice and thic mouthfeel.
4.5 (Draught) Pours an opaque black body with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, berries, coffee, caramel, toffee, and oak. Flavor of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, raisins, berries, and coffee.
4.1 Taster at Elizabeth Station. Pours an almost black with a dark beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, some chocolate notes. Taste is moderately to high sweet, with subtle coffee and fruity notes. Very nice.
3.8 Black opaque, big beige foam, roasty coffee caramel and chocolate aroma, medium + sweetness and bitterness, full body, thick feel, average carbonation, long bittersweet dry finish
3.6 <<>> bardzo poprawny RIS, z mocną, szlachetną kawą.
3.8 Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fairly coffee forward with some light roast and chocolate notes. Some light fruit notes. Pours black with a medium sized, thick, mocha head that recedes to a thin film that lingers. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with some chocolate and roast notes. Moderate coffee notes. Some light dark fruit notes. Hints of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium full.bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer but not amazing for speedway. The coffee character isn't great.
3.6 One More Beer Festival 2017. Aromat silnie kawowy (espresso), na drugim planie gorzka czekolada i melasa. W smaku wytrawne, kawa, czekolada i wyraźna paloność. Goryczka średnia, popiołowa. Alkohol wyczuwalny.
3.9 OMB kran. Armat kawowy i czekoladowy. W smaku dosyć wytrawne, dużo kawy, czekolada, sporo nut palonych, dobry balans. Bardzo dobre
4.0 Draught at One More Beer Festival Aroma-caramel, chocolate, coffee, Appearance-brown, hazy, tan foam, Taste-medium bitterness, light sweetness, lightly sour, Palate-full body, sticky, lively, long finish, Overall-very good
