AleSmith Wee Heavy Scotch Ale

AleSmith Wee Heavy Scotch Ale

This Scottish-inspired deep mahogany-colored ale showcases a rich, malty flavor profile of caramel and toffee offset by hints of roast and subtle smoke. The complex malty sweetness includes notes of dark fruit balanced by a subdued hop bitterness. Wee Heavy is incredibly nuanced and in a class of its own in terms of balance and sophistication. It ages very well and will keep improving for years to come.

3.9 Score: 7 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16 750 ml bottle, 2017 vintage, shared by PowY, thanks! Copper-brown body, with a big, creamy, lacing, beige head. Aroma of toffee, dried fruits, cocoa, sherry, chocolate, slight smoke. Tastes similar, with a bit more smoke. Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonation. Finishes moderate roasty, moderate sweet, slightly smokey, a bit toasty, fruity, with toffee, some chocolate. Very nice. Balanced and really smooth to drink for the ABV. Great mix of sweet, fruity, roasty/toasty notes, with a subtle smoke. Great example of a style, I don't like that much normally.

4.0 8 - 4 - 8 - 4 - 16 Very deep brown body with a tan head. Strong aroma of sweet caramel, dark caramel, and dark dried fruits, with some alcohol in the back. Strong flavour of sweet caramel, dark caramel, dark dried fruits, and some liquorice. A vinous mouthfeel but far from being too alcoholic, with a full body, oily texture and quite soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy sweet taste with a moderate bitter finish. A brilliant brew. [75 cl bottle shared with Svensenga smak & behag]

4.1 Killer Scotch ale, tons of toffee, caramel, and sweet dark fruit notes mixed with hints of peat and smoke and a restrained but tangible bitterness on the back end. Slight boozy warmth adds a liquor-ish fade to the lovely malt cavalcade. Delicious.
4.5 On tap at The Mint in Bethlehem, PA. Dark brown color topped by a brief creamy tan head. Burnt caramel nose hints at smoke. Rick treacle malt flavor. Thick, chewy mouth feel. Notes of licorice, burnt sugar, port, prunes, dark dried fruit and brown bread. Quite decadent and worthy of slow, succulent sips. Wow!‼️
4.3 Tried on two occasions, 2 yo bottle from 750 ml from Svijet Piva and on tap at Brewdog Leeds. Pours black with nice lasting beige head. Candy, dried fruit, chocolate, black, tan head. Sweet. Warming. Seems that bottle lost a bit of aroma but gained complexity. Also draught version has more dark fruit and berries which is a great combination with chocolate, also making the beer more easy drinkable. Very good.
4.4 Aroma is potent and big with figs and dates, scotch barrel, slightly smoky. There's alcohol heat and some dark fruit jam. Taste is heavy and alcoholic, with dark fruits, dried plums, scotch, oak, raisins and toffee. Full bodied, low on carbonation, alcoholic feel in a silky mouthfeel. Great, big, heavy.
4.0 Mnóstwo suszonych owoców, spieczonego ciasta, karmelu i toffi tak w smaku jak i w aromacie. Świetne piwo, wybitnie degustacyjne, a niby styl taki nudny ;)
