3.7 Pours slightly hazy orange with small head that very quickly dissipates to nothing. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit and vanilla. Taste of lemons. Nice mouthfeel.
3.8 12.7 oz corked and caged. Aroma is lightly lemony, vanilla custard, dusty basement, vague notes of a tropical fruity cocktail, like a mai tai or something. Pours hazy golden with a one finger bone-white head with decent retention. Taste is moderately sour (7/10), a little bit funky, oaky, finishing dry. Very bubbly, highly carbonated mouthfeel. Good.
3.8 Bottled August 31, 2017, consumed July 5 2020. The description here is off - it should read 1, 2, and 3-year-old lambic. Pours lightly hazy gold with a fizzy white head that fades to nothing moderate-fast. Aroma is big round tartness that is lightly citrus (lemony) with some barnyard and horse underneath that is very pleasant, old dry corn and wheat grain, touch of river muck and manure, and more mouthwatering citrus. Body is medium weight, oily and very highly textured starchiness, medium-big frothy carbonation, medium-light burn though (surprisingly less than expected), frothy-foamy-creamy. Flavor is fairly tart lemon drop with some barn grasses and old grain and horses. When I first tasted this I was immediately brought back to the surprising flavor of my very first gueuze, Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck St. Louis Gueuze Fond Tradition, which has (had in the 2009 bottle I had, anyway) a similar lemon-drop quality to it - cool! yay for distance flavors that are unique after more than a decade! Other flavors include a touch of chalky-minerality in the nose and taste, some more of that sour lemon and sour bitter orange (those dwarf ones on a shrub - maybe its a Trifoliate or Seville - haven't had them since I was a kid!) The barnyard comes through in the nose a bit more strongly. Nice tart, lightly funky gueule - something that I think would age really well. Wish I had bought an extra to put away for a decade or so. Still not as amazing as a good Drie Founteinen Oude Gueuze, which has a grainy quality and less assertive sourness that makes it very winglike and oh-so-drinkable!
3.7 Bottle from the brewery. Pours hazy orange gold with a thin white head. Tastes like dry white grape, straw, white wine, tart yeast, lemon, and grapefruit. Light body and medium carbonation. Smells like yeast, straw, white wine, and faint citrus.
4.2 375 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark golden orange and capped by a small off white layer of foam that fades away quickly. The aroma shows loads of funk, tart melons, apricot, horse blanket, hay, and vinous old oak over a pale malt base. The flavor follows suit with the tart lemon, apricot, and sour funk up and backed up by the pale malts, hay, vinous oak, and some acidity with ample sourness on the back end. Layers of funky goodness in this thing. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a lightly tart and funky finish with lingering notes of lemons, apricots, and old oak. Really damn good stuff here and very much in the Lambic mold. Excellent sour beer from Allagash as you would expect.
4.5 375mL bottle from Beer Run. Aromas of oak, white wine, lemon citrus, yellow bell pepper, vanilla. Cloudy light orange with a fairly lasting white head. Dry, tangy, sour, oaky, wine-like fruitiness. Medium bodied.
4.1 8-12-20 NRG Provisions
3.7 Hazy, golden color. Medium sized, white head. Funky , with notes lemon, grain and oak in the aroma. Sour taste with light, ”woody” bitterness.
3.8 Tap, Arsenal. Clear gold with a thin white head and good lacing. Layers of earthy funk, tart candied lemon peel, yeast, horse blanket. Med carb and body. Long, herbal, funky finish. Interesting and very enjoyable.
3.7 Aroma is funky, with a tiny note of mint. Flavor is funk, a mild tartness, and a heavy astringent note which threatens to overwhelm the otherwise complex and very good flavors. Dial back on the astringency some, and this beer would be amazing. It's still solid, but it has a flaw which dampens its potential.
3.6 Been sitting on this for a while. Figured a solid Fathers Day was worth it. Pours clear deep gold with a tiny fizz of carbonation. Aroma is floral, funk and some light lemon. Taste is sharp bitterness with some floral funkiness. A little amonia but the light grains and floral notes win out.
3.8 Draft at Bru Craft during an Allagash event. Hazy deep gold pour with a medium white head. Lots of oak. Lots of lambic funk. Malty body though not at all sweet. Fairly tart. Very floral. Notes of nectarines, quince, lemon seeds, and grape leaves.
4.1 Draft from Isaac Newton's in Newtown, PA. Orange gold pour with a small creamy white head. Funky yeast nose. Stone fruit as ell. First sip is sour fruit. Apricot, green apples, earth, wood and more. Soft on palate. Complex and unique. Happy to have stumbled across this one.
3.7 Refrigerated 12.7 oz. brown bottle poured into a glass. Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is tart, medium body, lower carbonation, and litttle lacing. Taste is tart some what dry lemon and a little wood.
4.0 Bottle from Berkeley Bowl. Pours dark gold with a thick foamy white head and a mellow fruity aroma. There is a sour winey malt flavor with tart finish. The flavor progresses in layers beginning with crisp pils malt, then to sour fruit and finishing with chardonnay.
4.2 Bottle, 375 ml at In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst. 2017 vintage. Quite acidic, citric, funky, some grapes, yeasty. Smooth. Medium bodied.
3.5 Bottle: picked this up at the brewery last summer, pours golden amber with a foamy white head, tart and yeasty aroma, taste is funky, sour, very dry finish.
3.9 375ml bottle from the brewery with cork and cage. Bottled Aug. 17, 2017. Slightly hazy golden colour with heavy carbonation, yet the head is fizzy, goes down quickly, but leaves a little coat of bubbles on top. Aromas of fruits and vinegars well-blended. Hints of wood. The taste is sour and with some tartiness. Gets really cloudy at the second pour. The balanced between the funk, sour, fruitiness and everything else is quite good. Very nice !
4.4 Bottle. Cloudy straw color. Sour horse blanket nose. A lot of tart lemon, apricot and other fruits. I don’t normally like these spurs, but this is pretty fantastic.
4.4 Bottle shared by a friend. Clear orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma of funk, malt, apricot and lemon. Malt and funk flavor with lemon accents before a dry white wine finish.
4.6 Draft or maybe from a bottle. 2017 vintage provided by our epic tour guide, unexpected when we got to the tasting room, super nice of him!! Cloudy pour, nose is tart. Taste is out of this world, the best domestic gueze I’ve ever tasted. This is a special brew and I’m so damned stoked to get to try it.
4.3 A shy cry away from Belgian lambics. If this was made in the region it would rate even higher by most people's figuring. Grapefruit crackery bretta and lots of tangerine. Hazy orange pour with ok head and lacing. Snappy crisp finish with a quick bite that disappears immediately- no sense of cloying. Imperfection is it's a touch on the acidic side. Tap at Sovereign.
3.8 2014 vintage. Bottle supplied by Willrunforbeer. Aroma is funky Brettanomyces, sour grapes, lemon acid. Flavor is nearly identical. Funky yeast and old moldy fruit in the finish. I like it way more than I thought I would.
3.8 Leather, barnyard, hay, lemon and cereal in nose. Pours golden with white head. Taste is sour with lemon, yoghurt, funk and hay. Finish is tart, lively carbo. Overall very good, maybe bit too sour.
3.7 GABF 2017. copper color. moderate carbonation. quite sour and acidic, like a real lambic. yeast, some cheese, earth.
3.6 big oak wood character. bold flavours. dave's bottle. good early beer in series.
5.0 Oak+Wine+Cherrys=fulminante KieferRutsche mit MirabellenPeachÖlung🚀 nerdy funky Schwammkopp😁 ...375ml Bottle. DIE NACHT 2018. MYSTICAL BEGIUM TRIPPER ;)..
3.0 Wenig säuerlicher Beginn mit leichtem Zitrus Aroma. Minimal hopfig, fein bitter, mittellanger Nachhall, primär säuerlich. Erfrischend. 9/9/10/9/11/9
4.0 Bottle shared at Nacht van de Grote Dorst. Bit hazy golden with white head. Quite some funk, light lemon, soft milky notes, light apricot, hay, soft fireworks, fresh green leaves. Over medium sour, light sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Nice!
3.8 375mL bottle. Pours a lightly hazy gold with a moderate bubbly white head. Aroma is funk, oak, apple, grape, light cheese, and some mustiness. Taste is sour; apple, cheese, oak, funk, some cheese, some grape, and some lemon rind. Cheesy finish. Medium body. High carbonation. Spritzy mouthfeel. Bottle says it is a blend of 1-, 2-, and 3-year old lambic.
