Allagash Nancy

Allagash Nancy

Nancy is a sour red ale fermented with Maine cherries and Brettanomyces in 100% stainless, for just shy of a year. The cherries were a blend of Balaton and Montmorency and added at a rate of 2 lbs per gallon. Copper in color, Nancy has an aroma of cherries, bread crust and a touch of cinnamon. The flavor is a medley of tart cherry, citrus and pie spice. The finish is dry with a lingering tartness.

3.6 375mL cork and caged bottle shared by beerbeggar. Amber reddish color, clear at first but murkier as the bottle goes. Musky rotten fruit and Swedish fish. Flavor is tart and green berry skins, acetic. Souring and cheek puckering sour punch at the end. Kind of uneven sourness. Not sure if its trying to be a Flemish Red or more American Sour, meaning classic or modern. Don’t really get cherry either. I’m often hesitant to pay such a high price tag and this reinforces that practice.
3.9 Bottle 375ml. Pours orange with almost no head. Aroma is of fruits, wild yeast. Taste is of fruits, cherries, acidity, some minerals, blood. Palate: Light-medium body, soft carbonation. Overall: Wow! Very nice one.
3.8 Pours a clear golden with no head/and slight rim that leaves no lacing. Nose is of cherries, bandaid and cinnamon/spices phenols. Taste is quite acidic but not too much, just mouth-watering, with more of the oude kriek-ish cherries. Moderate body and carbonation. Vinous. A pretty nice one! I’d be curious to sample a fresher bottle now.
3.3 bottle shared by tom10101, thanks bro! pours hazy medium dark golden with a small white cap offering some retention and lacing. bretted cinnamon cherries, sour cherries, apple jelly, pale cereals, medium to high acidity; moderate carbonation, light body; sour herbal-citric finish. a sour nancy - been there.
4.1 Bottle (375 ml), shared. Bottled July 18th 2014. Clear bright golden with a small ring of white foam leaving little to no lacing. Aroma is delicate with beautiful funk, cherries, light brettanomyces, lemon, cinnamon and mild herbalness. Taste is gently tart with lovely funk, tart cherries, mild cinnamon presence, herbal notes, lemon and hints of vanilla. Medium body. Moderate-medium carbonation. A bit oaky mouthfeel. Herbal cherries finish. Very well balanced. It’s surprising delicate for a 2½ years old sour. Lovely beer.
3.5 375ml bottle. Minimal head atop hazy amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, tart cherry, Brett, light lemon, wood. Taste is moderately sweet, lemon, Brett/cherry, tart, some sour. Acidic light-medium body, light stickiness.
3.9 Bottle - Cloudy light orange color, a little cloudy with a steady stream of bubbles. Very crisp and refreshing beer. Get a lot of tartness but surprisingly not a lot of cherry flavors, subtle but I really enjoy it.
3.8 Brownish orange. Aroma is strongly acidic and funky. Flavour is less acidic that expected, cherry, light funk, some leather, very good.
3.6 Bottle: Poured orange with white bubbles. Aroma is tart with some mellowness. Taste is super tart with cherries.
4.6 Bottle from Crafted in Haymarket, VA Aroma: tart cherries, bread, citrus, cinnamon Appearance: clear golden with a white head Taste: medium sweetness, medium sourness, Palate: medium body, slick feel, average carbonation, tart dry finish Delicious
4.4 What an elegant beer this is? Kinda what I hope vanilla cherry dog patch will be. Getting right up on 10,000, so everything for the next few is gonna be legit. This beer pours an opaque pink with off white head. Initial aroma and taste is soft tart cherry and vanilla. Light spice comes out as it opens up and adds to, rather than takes away from the tartness. Really liking this one. My only complaint is the tiny bottle goes away way too fast.
3.9 375ml corked and caged. Tulip. Dominion. Cloudy orange with moderate effervescent offwhite head. A: sour and funky cherries, yeast, grains. Nice. T: very tart and acedic, sour cherries, yeast, wet hay, fern. Tasty.
3.8 Orange pour from 16oz bottle at oris pad. Super cherry aroma. Super cherry flavor. Tart but perfect
3.9 Pours hazy peach (with a pink hue) with low white head. Aroma of cherries, bretta, redcurrant, red apples, grass. Taste is rich berry tart with a lingering sour finish. Body is light, dry and crisp with average carbonation.
3.8 Complicated beer. Delicious. Funk, on a whole new level. Moldy nose. Orange amber color with a small head and no lacing. Champaign carbonation bite on the front of my palate. Blue cheese, lime, sour apple, vanilla extra the back of my palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy App
3.8 Sampled at 2016 Midwest Belgium Beer Festival - The beer pours reddish orange with a white head. The aroma has funk, cherries, berries and bugs. It has a medium smooth body with a bit of rough carbonation. The taste is like the aroma with some lemon acidity. Very nice.
3.9 Bottle - Sweet and tart cherry with some funky wild notes. Cloudy pinkish gold with a nice white head. Tart and acidic up front with some candy and cherry notes. Nice finish and acidity isn’t dominating although it is quite big to start.
4.2 375ml bottle, cloudy pale reddish hue, with a big fluffy white head. Very nice mild sour cherry, faint vanilla, cinnamon spicy aroma with some light belgian, brett yeast, marzapin cherry pit, cherry pie crust accents in the aroma follow through on a medium-bodied palate with good sour, tart fruity cherry, bread dough, subtle vanilla, marzapin almondy character, with a sharp faint rhubarb, bretty yeast funkiness, subtle lemon juice flavour, leading toward a sour, acidic lemony, bretty funkiness yeast, sharp cherry finish.
3.9 Draft at Arlington. Poured an ugly hazed pinkish amber with a smaller tight foamy super light pink head. Aroma is fruity, manure, lightly acidic, yeasty. Flavor is solid, cherry, lemon, bread crumb, flower petals, lavender. Nice body, delicate mouthfeel, stingy carbonation and a qukcker to average aftertaste with a very light acidic burn.
4.1 Draught at Harry’s Hofbrau in San Jose. Beautiful aromas of cherry and pie spice. A little apple pie as well. Hazy orange-copper with minimal off-white head around the sides. Flavor is tart that increases through the mouth. Cherry and citrus tree. Semi-dry finish. Full mouthfeel gives well rounded sense. Wonderful.
4.3 375ml bottle thanks to Eric. Pours out a apricot color topped with a pinkish white head. Nose is big cherries oak barrel a nice tart pucker funk very nice. Taste is more of the nice perfect barrel cherries sweet tart funky wood. This is great.
4.1 Pours ruby red with little head. Smell is sour cherry, funk, yeast. Taste is funky, sour, yeast, vinegar and a tart cherry then sweetens a bit on finish. MEdium body, heavy carb.
4.1 Tap at The Jeffrey Allagash night. Hazy reddish pour. Nose is tart cherry and Brett. Tastes of cherry skin, cherry flesh, light vanilla, brett, wood, some citrus notes. Lightly sour and nice malt notes for balance. Easy drinking and delightful.
3.9 Draft at StateLine.... Pours a reddish hue... Small head. Nose of sour cherries. Taste is a big sour punch in the face... makes you go "whooooo"... Cherries are noticeable but take a back seat to the big sourness on this beer. Body is really light and refreshing, easy to drink. Overall good stuff..
4.0 At the brewery, kindly shared by one of the brewers. Thanks again El Mustachio! APPEARANCE: dark blond beer. NOSE: quite sour, fruity, nice! TASTE: quite high in carbo, fruity, sourness comes in well.
4.0 [1/28/16] Draught at Almanac & Friends Sourfest at MaSo at Park Central Hotel in San Francisco. Hazy red with orange hues. Great sourish aroma of cherries, funk. Tart flavor, funky, full of cherries. Medium-bodied. Great stuff.
4.0 Thank you Mathieu87 & PriorL! 375 ml. bottle sampled @ “Mathieu’s house cooling party”. Bottled 10 July 2014. Hazy orange, head fizzes away very quickly. Nose is fizzy & massively puckering, sour aspirin, sour effervescent tablets, puckering zest,…. Taste is similar, fizzy, strongly puckering, lemon, effervescent tablets, puckering, vague red fruit,… Sour & fizzy,… Good but a bit too fizzy & aspirin etc. heavy. Quite nice, feels like it could have been better but good stuff as it is.
4.0 Another great allagash sour. Copper golden color with fizzy white head. Aroma is cherry skins, vanilla, bread, and cherry juice. Taste is fruity sweetness and delicate tart with light medicinal character.
4.3 Draught at Meadhall, 12/17/15. Bright red body shows light carbonation, great clarity and a small, off-white head that fades to a ring. Nose shows superbly integrated tart cherry and brett notes. Nothing sharp or aggressive here, but plentiful, authentic fruitiness, cherry pie and an easygoing funk. I must say, I was surprised to find out this is not barrel-aged. Not that it has any wood/oak character, but the beer just smells so similar to a real Belgian Kriek. Surprised they were able to do that without the barrel. No alcohol, light vanilla and a pinch of sulfur. Really spot-on stuff for an American brewer.... The flavor is equally delicious, though does depart more from the lambic-character found in the nose. Tons of cherry pie and cherry skin tartness, with moderate acidity, soft brett funk and very light honey. Great texture, the malt being well-attenuated but still providing softness to the palate. Tight carbonation and no alcohol or flaws. Very flavorful but easygoing enough that a non-sour devotee should be able to appreciate it. Kind of surprised at the (relatively) low ratings on this one. Perhaps it’s a bit simplistic with the cherries, light honeyed malt and mild brett, but all of those are done so well that it’s hard to fault it for being somewhat less complex.
3.9 Bottle, bottled on July 10, 2010 at Churchkey poured into a tulip. Clear golden with very little head. Aroma is nice tart, medium body, low carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is really nice fruity sour and subtle nice cherry.
