Allagash Saison

Allagash Saison

Allagash Saison is our interpretation of a classic Belgian farmhouse style. It is a golden hued beer, brewed with a 2-Row blend, malted rye, oats and dark Belgian candi sugar. It was hopped with Tettnang, Bravo and Cascade hops. Fermented with a traditional saison yeast strain, this beer exhibits notes of spice and tropical fruit in the aroma. Citrus and a peppery spice dominate the flavor and make way for a pleasant malt character. Saison is full bodied with a remarkably dry finish.

3.5 My Bottom Line: Gingery spiciness dominates mineral accents and citrus fruit in this lean, tropical Saison. Further Personal Perceptions: -A veil of foam covers the misty pale yellow. -This is great with spicy foods. -Drinkability is high. -In the bottle, for quenching purposes, I much prefer their Hoppy Table, Little Brett or White. Bottle.
3.9 Glowing hazy golden with a white head. Medium bodied. Nice herbal zesty spice, yeast, bright fruits. Simple and classic saison. Nice.
3.4 Bottle, Wine Warehouse. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma is dust, light citrus, yeast. Flavor is tangy lemon/wheat/yeast with a little bit of a chalky undertaste. Minor herbal finish.
3.3 Bottle. White grapes, coriander, herbal notes. Makes the impression of a spiced white wine. Crisp, simple flavour, maybe initially too simplistic but ultimately rewarding due to the strongish bitterness and the aforementioned white grapes.
3.3 Light spice with an unusually bitter, dry finish. Creamy. Xxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
2.6 Yeast and floral in the smell. The taste is sweet and floral. Light bitterness that fills the upper part of the mouth to a weak moment. Okay beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.8 Hazy yellow pour. Yeasty clove, banana, pear, lemon, floral aroma. Flavor is floral and dry. Hugh carbonation. Medium body. Very nice.
3.4 Bottle thanks to wombat23. Pours pale yellow with a haze. Tall, foamy white head that fades to a thin layer. Aroma is yeasty, lemony, with a bit of clove. Taste is mildly sweet at the outset with candied sugar notes, but turning increasingly bitter and even tart at the finish. A nice range of flavor, even if not exactly captivating. Dry with a prickly carbonation. Overall, nice.
3.5 Enjoyable beer, better than my score indicates. Pretty dead-on within the saison comfort zone, hitting all the right farmhouse notes--grassy meadow malts, subtle sweetness, clove with hints of citrus and vanilla, yeasty backbone--without any drastic stylistic departures to make it a standout. But that's okay; sometimes it's good to make a really basic, readily identifiable, unmistakably well-done version of a classic style. Too bad it's not a looker; comes out a pretty straw yellow, but lacks head or lace. Nose is underwhelming as well, faint wheat and yeast with the slightest hint of funk. Good boisterous saison texture, though, and grows increasingly drinkable as it warms. Not bad.
3.1 12oz bottle. Pours a slightly orange gold with a small off-white head. Aroma is candi sugar, yeast, spice, pepper, and a little peach. Taste is pepper, yeast, orange, spice, earth, and a hint of honey. Bitter, yeasty finish. Light-medium body. High carbonation. Crisp mouthfeel.
3.4 From tap.Pours hazy yellow. Mild fruity and estery aroma. Medium dry, estery. Light fruity. Mild spiced. Medium dry and estery light fruity finish.
3.7 Clear pale golden color with very little head. Aroma is barnyard hay, and pears, perhaps a hint of eucalyptus. Flavor is dry and crisp, with a juniper berries in the finish. Pretty enjoyable.
3.9 Bottle from Total Wine in Mountain View, CA. Aroma is fruity, yeasty esters, sweet flowers, some earthy sweet hay. Taste is fruity, crisp, some earthy spice. Solid example of an American Saison!
3.9 Surprised I’ve never had this beer before. Very pleasant, drier than average saison with a nice amount of spice and lemon character. Perfect with pizza. Tried at Pequods in Chicago in 2017 during ASEH with the Jayhawks crew.
3.7 Draught at City Beer SF. Golden color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, yeast, ripe fruits, a bit of white pepper, grass and floral hops. Bitter finish with citrus, floral hops, yeast, ripe fruits, white pepper and grass. Excellent saison.
4.7 The Pour: Clear, crisp gold. Head is ivory white, two fingered and consistent. Nose: Smells floral, herbal, grassy like a meadow, or a wooded plain. Taste: Herbal and floral. Very dry, with faint wood notes of ash or light oak. Mouth Feel: Light to medium-light, sharp bubbles, and a dry finish Overall: Light, easy drinking, great for grilling (cookouts, picnics, etc.), meats and cheeses, or grilled vegetables.
3.8 355ml bottle. Milky, yellow-ish, pale golden colour with small, to average, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Rather clean, floral and fruity aroma, notes of chamomile, daisy, pollen, honey, peach, nectarine, a touch of peppercress, Taste is dry, tart-ish, mildly citrusy hoppy, floral, fruity and peppery yeasty spicy, slightly bready malty basis, hints of chamomlie, daisy, honey, brine, mustard seed, unripe peach, a touch of peppercress, subtle, minimally sugary sweetness; peppery spicy finish. Rich and manifold, well balanced, thereby somewhat reticent and almost a bit watery.
3.4 My favorite US Saison is Ommegang Hennepin Saison or, in the general Belgian category, Gnoemegang Blonde Ale. In comparison, the Allagash body is thinner and taste is more mild than Hennepin. Minimal head when poured, tested in two different style glasses. I do pick up some citrus in both the aroma and flavor, along with some sweetness, which was nice. Here is the weird thing -- I had one of these over four weekends and each time, in glasses that had been cleaned the previous weekend and sitting in a cabinet, I picked up a definite odor of "dust" towards the middle to end. I don’t know how else to describe it and I don’t pick up that "dusty" smell with other beers in those same glasses and conditions. Net, it’s drinkable, ok, but not great.
3.4 Pale cloudy yellow with a diminishing, effervescent appearing head. Some grassy and fruity/yeasty notes on the nose. The palate is crisp, dry, very nice. I’ve not had many Saison’s but I can certainly see this fit the bill after a few hours of mowing or bike riding during the summer months.
4.4 nice golden colored saison that has a pleasant lightness to the body while frothy and fulfilling at the same time. really nice flavor of a Belgian golden ale full of coriander yet not overpowering. body is not watery but is not unduly thick. really a nice representation with some golden like malt and an easy peppery hop profile. really tuned in to this one. pleasant enough aroma. candied caramel, i like the fact that they got this done without a gimmicky fruit or anything like that. and that steely hard water notorious of this brewer is absent. abv to this lightly yeast treat is versatile.
3.6 Saison yeast, bread dough, grain malts, light lemon zest. Hazy, pale gold, small, frothy, white head. Light sweet. More sweet grain malts, Saison yeast, dry straw and hay, soft carbonation, medium bodied, more, dry and herbal citrus fruit in the finish. Nice Saison, well-balanced. Bottle from Drinks of the World, Bern.
4.0 Hazy golden with a thin, lasting cap of off-white. Aromas of lemon zest, a good amount of grainy malt and a light sweetness. Nice. Flavor is kind of light but enjoyably balanced between the same components as found in the nose. Overall decent, just wish it had a little more oomph.
4.0 An absolutely gorgeous pour, crystal clean bright straw yellow with a billowing rocky white head and storm of carbonation. Lightly earthy and funky upfront with a hint of minerality and touch of racked pepper. Some white fruit and floral notes in the aroma as well. Subtle earthy and bready notes in the flavor. Light zesty quality with a very light body and dry palate.
4.1 Hazy , yellow color. One finger thick , white , soapy head. Aroma of spices and citrus with malt on background. Same notes in taste . Dry finish with floral bitterness. Delicious saison!
3.8 12 ounces bottle from Craft Beer Cabin. Aroma: nice typical saison nose of raw wheat mixed with lemon and floral notes. App: Clear pale with minimal head leaving some lacing. Taste and palate: light to medium body, citrusy, light crisp bitter finish. Overall: This saison is really well done. No, it won’t really standout from other saisons. It’s just right on the style with no flafla. Pretty good. Exactly how I enjoy my saisons and especially at this price ($2). Great job Allagash.
3.3 Frisch vom Hahn bei BrewDog Berlin. Säuerliche Fruchtnoten in der Nase. Sehr gute Drinkability und Frische.
3.0 Pours hazy straw color with a 1-finger white head. Lemony aroma with earthy and herbal notes. Body is light and a touch oily. Dry finish. Flavor of lemon mnixed with earthy notes. A bit of an herbal note as it warms.
3.4 12oz bottle. Small off-white head atop lightly hazed straw body. Aroma is medium sweet, orange, some lemon, Brett, spicy. Taste is moderately sweet, orange, some spicy, Brett, white pepper, grapefruit. Light-medium body, some acidity, duskiness.
3.1 very faint malt aroma. light gold and hazy in color with light head. taste is light, hints of citrus and pepper. finishes smooth
3.0 From bottle it’s hazed pale gold with a short white head. Aroma is yeasty-musty, papery, lightly husky, resinously hoppy with apple and pear-like fruitiness. Medium-bodied, sweet, syrupy, ester-y, bitter, citric, cider-like, and not very Belgian at all.
