Allagash Victoria Ale

Allagash Victoria Ale

To create Victoria Ale, the brewers drew on references to Bucchus, the Thracian god of wine, in the history and artwork of the Victoria Mansion as inspiration for this new beer. One hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes were brought in, crushed on site and added directly to the mash. With a focus on the subtle wine-like character of the grapes, the 9.0% ABV brew boasts a pale copper color, Belgian yeast influence and a medium body with a long finish.

For every bottle of Victoria Ale sold, Allagash Brewing Co. will donate $1 to the restoration of this historic building.

We bottled it in February of '06. 451 cases (6 bottles in each case) were bottled.

3.8 4 oz pour on draft at ChurchKey. Clear golden yellow with off-white head. Aromas of citrus, stone fruit, herbs and spice. Tastes of citrus, stone fruit, herbs, spice, light wine. Medium body with a dry finish.
4.3 Nice fruity citrus Belgian hop scent. Blonde unfiltered pour. Nice head. Banana pineapple orange coriander hop flavor. Very good! Cheers!
4.0 Bottle 750ml @ Motel room, Red Roof Inn, Akron, OH Pours hazy golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, yeast, white wine, dried fruits and hint of citrus. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, slightly dry, fruity, yeasty and vinous finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
4.1 I think the best thing about this beer is its appearance- a huge thick, foamy, off-white, slow to settle head with lots of lace and a very clear golden color. Aroma is malt, grain, yeast. Flavor is very mild, understated, malty, slightly metallic, yeast, a bit of carbonic tart, fairly dry. Texture is light, soft. This is a very low-key Belgian Style Strong.
3.7 On tap at Cask and Vine while enjoying the company of Todd the Hoople. Lightly hazy deep straw with hints of wine yellow if that makes any sense. Fruity earthy spicy aromas and flavor. Interesting brew a bit outside of the box. I enjoyed this more than its counterpart.
3.7 Note that it is better to have wIth salty foods than with sweet/chocolate foods. You can taste the grapes as it has a sIght raisin oaked barrel taste. Not a hearted beer, rather heavy but easy enough to finish a 750ml alone in 2 hours! Bottle
2.5 Yeasty, slightly phenolic nose, hint of apple underneath. Cloudy opaque gold color with a fine white frothy head. Slightly syrupy body, grapey and grassy taste with an astringent bitter finish.
3.6 Keg at The Answer Brewpub. Pours a clear golden with a thin white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of pale malt, tart grapes, scuppernongs, citrus, yeast. The taste is grapes, yeast, citrus, apricot, marzipan,. Medium bodied, low carbonation, mild lingering yeast.
3.2 Keg @ The Answer. Light gold with a small head. Belgian yeast, pear and apple juice. Similar flavor. Somewhat boozy. Sweet grain and honey. Hot apples. Sugar. Full body, oily.
4.1 "Nice mix of honey and white grape sweetness, and light funk (though more pronounced than Victor). A rare blend of refresher and contemplative sipper. Very nice."
4.3 Is there anything better than the Allagash reserves? Just opened a caged and corked 750ml bottle from 2011. Pours a gentle yellow with a thick consistent cloud. Strong ale taste that draws you into the whole bottle. Just another wonderful offering from the great brewers in Portland, Maine. Cheers!
4.5 Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a vibrant glowing peach-golden color with a large soapy-foamy white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet golden fruits, wood, must and bubblegum. The flavor was very tangy with bread dough,m ust, wood, bubblegum, strong golden fruits and sugar. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Excellent.
3.8 Very understated beer. Pours cloudy blonde with great head and carpet lacing. Some citrus and florals, though citrus is rather more pronounced than most of style. Finishes with light sweetness. Light oajy bitterness as well. Tap at RFD.
3.5 Bottle. Hazy gold with a thick rocky white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast and fresh baked bread. Taste adds clove, citrus and some white grape. Soft mouthfeel and light carbonation. Pretty good.
3.8 Draft at Julian’s, Providence. Pours a clear straw color, decent amount of head. Aroma citrus/grapes, crisp Brett funk. Body fluffy yet boozy, slightly tart, lingering arch bitterness, maybe honeydew melon sweetness. Interesting enough but not particularly my thing.
3.8 750 ml bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy dark golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have white grapes, some tart character, grape skins, yeast, sweeter bready malts, light wood, good mouthfeel, another solid offering from Allagash.
3.4 On tap at Taps in Petaluma. Pours a bright golden color with a bit of head. Noticeable grape though a little unbalanced against the hops. Some honey flavor.
3.7 Bottle shared by Nick. Pours orange gold with a white head. Aroma is earthy, bubblegum. Flavor is wheaty, banana, some pepper, a touch of bubblegum.
3.6 Bottle 750ML, deeper golden pour, medium to fuller mouthfeel. Fruity, some bubblegum notes. Lighter white wine notes. Very drinkable, good flavor. Nice
4.1 Pours hazy golden yellow with a fluffy belgian lace head. Aroma has traces of white grape and belgian candi sugar. A light belgian strong ale flows over your tongue with grape tannins and a strong flavor of chardonnay grapes.
3.8 Draft. Golden mildly hazed pout. Really refreshing beer, slightly tart and vinous? Effervescent.
3.4 Draft at the growler nyc . Pours a hazy orange light color. Taste is sweet and slightly sour. Interesting but very good
3.6 Aroma: Belgian Yeast, Sweet Grapes, Mild Belgian Sugar Appearance: Hazy Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light, Thin White Head Ring, Mild Lacing Taste: Belgian Yeast, Belgian Sugar, Mild Dry White Grape Mouthfeel: Average Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Sweet, Mildly Drying
3.3 2012 750ml bottle pours a straw yellow with an off white head. Slight grape yeast and buttery taste.
3.5 Slightly hazy light copper pour, white head. Nose is really nice - melon and grape abound. Taste is odd, lots of fruit esters build towards a grape heavy finish.
3.7 2013 bottle poured into an Allagash chalice. Pours a translucent gold with a big white froth of foam. Good retention and lots of webby lacing. The aroma is grassy, musty, and herbal. It actually reminds me of a pilsener. Odd. Taste is sweet and grainy. I get notes of vanilla, white grape skins. Bigger bodied with a softly spritzy mouthfeel. Medium carbonation.
3.4 Light clear amber color. Grainy smell with a hint of grape. Taste was very bready with a bit of grape balance.
3.7 Vintage 2009 From notes. Tasted at a tasting at Curtis’s old house, probably around early 2012, from a corked and caged 750mL bottle that I bought at Lush long ago. Pours hazy deep golden with a thick white head that leaves thin lace. The nose is sweet caramel and grape juice with just a touch of bitterness and some spicy yeast. The flavor is lighter on the sweetness but the same otherwise. The body is full with average but stinging carbonation and a long grape juice and Belgian yeast finish.
3.7 Fun play on a white wine and beer mix. Good woody tones from the grapes. I didn’t enjoy this as much as the Red.
4.2 Hazy golden color with a thick white head. Aroma is light grape with a bit of hay. Flavor is lightly fruity and very mildly tart. Effervescent and crisp, flavor is vaguely similar to a white wine but not as sweet. Wife: 4.3
