Almanac IPA

Almanac IPA

Introducing our year-round Almanac IPA, a West Coast hop bomb overflowing with hop flavors and aromas. We start with a copper-hued malt base of California-grown two-row barley, German Vienna Malt, Crystal Malts and Biscuit Malt. Then we start layering on the hops—grown all along the west coast in California, Oregon and Washington. We combine Magnum, Chinook, Cascade, El Dorado and Simcoe to create our own unique twist on the IPA style with intense aromas of grapefruit and tangerine peel, pineapple and pine trees. The finish has a clean bitterness and light saltine cracker note.

3.3 Tap @ Beer Temple, 5 oz, with Kermis. Hazy golden color. Uneven, a bit rocky white head, with some lacing. Aroma’s: resinous, citrus, caramel. Retronasal there’s citrus, caramel, some resin. Flavor is moderate sweet-moderate bitter. Medium bodied. Rather bitter finish. Again I had the impression this was not very fresh...
4.1 Pour orange with a one finger white head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is of citrus, pine, grass, bready malts, tropical fruits, and biscuit malts. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, moderately bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a tasty, pretty hopyy, classic west coast style IPA.
4.3 A special one. Overflowing with west coast hops - grapefruit, orange, tangerine and pine. Quite a punch in the nose. Medium sweetness and weight from the malt. All a bit raw and unsubtle like a farmhouse IPA - a good thing.
3.6 Bomber, cloudy yellow gold pour with thick creamy white head, smells of resin, maybe a touch of rubber, biscuit malt, some spice and pineapple, aight
3.5 Cloudy amber, offwhite froth. Resin and caramel aroma, hints of rubber. Mouthfeel is slick and oily. Fruity, piney flavour. Solid caramely backing, passionfruit. Has a nice DIPAish roughness to it. Nice.
3.6 The Sampler, Brooklyn can: pours orange with a white head. Aroma is grapefruit, pineapple, and pine without the apple. Nice amount of tropical fruit in the taste while maintaining a hefty dosage of hop bitterness. Pretty good.
3.6 Pours a dark gold with a thick white foam. Pine, mango, and tangerine aromas are followed by a bitter bite of grapefruit and tropical fruit hops. Dry on the finish.
3.5 Hazy light tan. Piney hop nose. Moderate bitterness, quite a bit if sweetness. A bit yeasty, some citrus.
3.9 On tap at St Augustine’s, pours a close pale golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out fresh piney hops upfront, with some sticky hop resins and biscuity malt. Flavour is super fresh, with lovely piney hops dominating the palate, followed by some sticky hop resins and just enough biscuity malt. Nothing extraordinary but it’s an excellent by the books west coast piney IPA that is underrated.
3.7 On tap at St. Augustines on Rare Beer Tap Takeover. Tropical fruits pleasant aroma. Same fruits bitterness in taste and aftertaste. Very good IPA.
3.9 Bottle from Brewdog. Pours hazy golden with a small creamy white head. Aroma of fresh oranges, pine with mango fruits. Taste is light sweet fruity, bitter crisp oranges with pine and spices. Fine carbonated, smooth mouthfeel. Easy to like this one. Well balanced fruity IPA.
4.3 Bottle from Willibees, Petaluma. Strong grapefruit, passion fruit, caramel malt aromas. Taste is herbal, peachy, grapefruit, nicely bitter and passion fruit finish. Slight spice at the end. Delicious.
3.4 From tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Almost clear dark amber color with off white head. Malty aroma, caramel and bread, light hoppy piney notes. Sweet and bitter like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation. Probably old beer.
3.7 Cloudy amber, offwhite froth. Resin and caramel aroma, hints of rubber. Mouthfeel is slick and oily. Fruity, piney flavour. Solid caramely backing, passionfruit. Has a nice DIPAish roughness to it. Nice.
3.7 0.65 bottle. A very hazy, copper color with a medium, white head leaving some basic lacing. Aroma of exotic fruits, wet hop pellets, some citruses, pineapple, and delicate malts. Taste is primarily sweet despite a significantly hop character, fruity, citric, exotic, and only a tad bitter. A medium to full body, a creamy texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is sweeter than the rest and introduces pleasant, candy-like flavors. Overall the beer is good, it strikes a decent balance between sweet and bitter notes despite being an IPA.
3.2 Big offwhite head. Clear coppery body. Fruity resiny citric aroma with raisiny tropical fruit notes. Sweetish raisiny toffee tropical fruit taste with spicy wooden vanilla fudge notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Sweetish orangey toffee and spice aftertaste with vanilla fudge notes. It’s pretty good, but again it would probably be infinitely better when fresh. (0.65l bottle, from Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)
3.5 650ml bottle. Huge nose which lead to equally large flavour. Unfortunately it did not live up to this, while still a fantastic beer, it was not quite what I was hoping for.
3.8 22oz bomber pours with a very near clear pure gold body that supports a white head of foam. The aroma offers up malt sweetened pineapple, grapefruit and other various soft citrus notes. The taste delivers a moderate level of bitter grapefruit and pineapple and then getting into a bit of cantaloupe and malts. Nice. It creates a bit more bitter fruity hoppiness than it does thin strands of tropical fruity juiciness. It ends even with pineapple and a thin cracker malt sensation.
3.8 Pours a hazy orange tinged golden withe a fair white head.....aroma of tropical fruits, grapefruit, melon.......taste is crisp, melon, citrus, grapefruit, tails off well with the fruit flavor following, not disappearing. Quite nice.
3.9 Pours hazy apricot with a medium white head. Aromas of apricot, peach, kiwi, mango, resin, pine. Taste is fruity, yes, but not massively so. Instead very nicely balanced between fruitiness and malty backbone. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.
3.8 Pours hazy apricot with low white head Aromas of tropical fruits, caramel, resin, pine Taste has caramel, resin, pine, mango, citrusy fruits
3.7 Pours hazy golden amber with low white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, mango, peach. Taste is pine and citrus bitter with a mellow fruit sweet finish. Light and smooth body with soft carbonation.
3.5 Draught at Mckay’s Taphouse, Bellingham Blond color. A bit animal, fruity, sweet, but overall balanced. Nice.
3.2 A very nice IPA, well balanced. Pour a clear orange with little head. Smells great, of tropical fruit, peach, pear and pineapple. Taste is tropical fruit to start, with a nicely bitter but balanced finish. Had on tap.
3.4 Pours a hazy orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, pale malt, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus, pine, orange - citrus, wood. Flavor is moderate sweet leading to a nice bitter finish.
3.0 Bottle. Hazy pale orange in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of strong pine resin, orange, rich pale malts, and a bit of booze. Flavors are of pinecone, juniper berry, wintergreen, sweet orange, and cookie dough malts. Chunky bitterness. Good amount of complexity here, but a bit too hefty in the malt department for me.
3.6 Draft at eastbound. Golden pour with a decent head. Aromas were nice with lots of light fruit and pear and apricot. Flavors were similar with some bitterness that wasn’t as nice as the aroma.
3.9 Large head gold pour medium carbonation aromas pine citrus caramel stone fruit tropical biscuit the flavours grapefruit biscuit caramel pine apricot cumquat some wonderful hop tastes crisp sharp the finish excellent IPA hops the winner lasting good malt pine bitter backing lovely stuff
3.8 Keg at Brewdog Manchester. A slightly hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of mango, peach, grapefruit, some pine, subtle biscuit and slight herbal hops. Taste of grapefruit, mango, orange, resin, some peach, subtle biscuit and slight herbal hops. Medium bodied and an oily texture. A dry, resinous and herbal hop bitterness in the finish. A bitter, hoppy IPA. Decent citrus, resin and herbal flavours. Not OTT either.
3.5 Opalescent golden, fluffy white well lasting head. Aromas of grapefruit zest, lychee, dank grass, piney and resin develop. Light soft livelyness, soft texture, medium body. Short toffee touch which is fast surpassed by resinous hop bitterness. Bone dry finish.
