Alpine Beer Company Nelson

Alpine Beer Company Nelson

Named after Nelson Sauvin, an outstanding hop varietal from New Zealand. The hop is introduced through the brewing and dry-hopping of this complex and well-balanced IPA. A hazy straw hued ale, Nelson is topped by bright white beer foam and offers a tropical hop aroma. The pine and fruity hop notes linger, but are well-balanced by the smooth, malty addition of European rye malts. Enjoy this stunning and multifaceted, yet mellow IPA.

4.1 355 ml can from an online store - already six months old when it came. Pours a semi-hazy brilliant yellow-orange almost like a postcard New England with a two finger white head. Aroma of lots of pineapple, some white grape, mango and malt, but it's a wonderfully aromatic beer. Very balanced taste with a lot of fruitiness, making the bitterness supporting. It's only mild to medium though it seems quite heavily hopped. Very smooth mouthfeel as well due to the rye as well as a nice supporting carbonation. The 7% ABV is completely hidden. I'm utterly convinced, even as somebody who doesn't really like IPAs. Would definitely be a 4.1 if it were fresh.
3.7 pale yellow Hazy beer with a thin head. Fruity like a Neipa with some grapefruit, tangerine and lots of mango. In the aftertaste also some honey. Not ery thick in taste but very long in taste.
3.7 12 fl oz can from hopt.it. Pours pale gold, fairly hazy, with fine white foam. Aroma is hot, fruity, tropical, also citrus. Body is slightly on the thin side, with moderate carbonation. Taste is medium bitter, with lots of fruity sweetness too. Final is pretty long, fruity and bitter.
3.8 Can picked up from Saveur-Biere, webshop, Lille, France and consumed at home Friday 15th January 2021 listening to Steve Lamaq on 6Music about to start cooking Lamb Keema Saag Balti, from the Curry Guy cookbook, with Dal Makhani from Made in India cookbook. Pours hazy, mmhh... actually a murky, milky yellow/gold with a large creamy textured white coloured head. Very soft mouthfeel, dry, almost Indian Tonic touch, however the sweetness rather rules out that quite swiftly, this is good in fact very good for not being the usual bombastic in yer'face Nelson hit, it's really nice, dry, some grapefruit, hoppiness zips across the tongue. Really good.
3.3 Pours opaque golden, big fluffy white foam head. Aroma is hoppy, fruit notes. Taste is modest bitter, again fruit. Nice. (Velp 202012)
3.5 Was expecting amazing things from this one. Pours cloudy. If it is in a can, I don't know to leave the sediment at the bottom. Balanced and mellow but not really anything special. Nice honey note to the aroma. Good but not up to what I was expecting from the high score
4.2 Can, 0.355l. Aroma of orange, tangerine, resin, mango and cereals. Pours hazy dirty yellow color with medium sized frothy off-white head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts light to medium sweet grainy and juicy citrusy, following is bready, mild tropical fruity and herbal, mouthfeel is mild spicy, while finish is pretty bitter. Medium to full body, oily texture and lively carbonation in palate. Pure joy of true hoppiness...
4.0 Smells like pine needles, oatmeal, and grass clippings. Earthy, herbal, and citric. Aftertaste of rye.
4.5 Orange and nectarine. Abit of pineapple. Tropical and hoppy. Danky stuff. Some spices. Yummy rye malts. Slightly grassy. Bittersweet. Complex flavour. Smooth and very enjoyable.
4.3 Llauna beer republic.
Leicht harzig, bittersweet, etwas Frucht, geil.
4.0 Tropical and citrus fruit aroma in a hazy gold pour. Hop forward balance with a light pulpy fruit body and laid back bitter finish.
3.9 Light with orange taste
3.8 Puro cítrico y centeno. Perfil refrescante, amargo, frutal
4.0 Can, WW. Murky golden-orange with a small off-white head. Orange peel, orange juice, orange vitamins - lots of orange in the nose, as well as melon and green hops. Slick orange - again a mixture of the above, rye, green grasses... feels familiar, comforting. Quite good.
4.4 5 month old can which probably wasn't stored in a super cool location it's entire life. Cloudy, dare I say "hazy", straw color with tight foam that dissipates quickly enough to a thin layer and slight buildup around the glass. Aroma has some spiciness, lychee (?), and creamy nectarine (?). Taste is dry (not sweet) and creamy (mouthfeel) with substantial spiciness and something I can't put a word on. Having just read that it is a Rye IPA, the spiciness makes sense. I know I'm "supposed" to taste white grapes in there, and maybe I do, but I can't put my finger on it. There is definitely a hoppy fruitiness to compliment that significant spiciness. Ends with an earthy bitterness and the sensation that the middle of my tongue kind of dried out, but it a good residual bitter way. Doubt that makes sense to anyone reading this. Gets better with each sip. At the end of the can I find myself wishing I had another in the fridge.
Droge afdronk. M: Smooth met medium carbonatie.
3.7 Can. Hazy yellow pour. Aroma of rye, white grape, oat, citrus and some grassy piney hop. Taste has bitter white grape, soft rye, citrus, bitter grassy hop and orange. Nice.
Ruikt fruitig. Smaakt fruitig, zoetig, tropisch.
4.1 Can at home, 01/05/20. Pours opaque yellow, slim foamy white head. Lots of creamy citrus, mango, oathy creamy and dry, medium-high bitterness - great balance. Good body, lively carbonation.
4.4 Pours a hazed pale orange. Big frothy eggshell head, creamy. Nose is orange peel, pine, grass. A lovely feel. The rye shines. Orangecicle but not too sweet, resin, pepper that lingers, perfect mix of sweet and bitter in here.
3.7 Draft at Harvest House. Murky, pale orange with frothy, lacing head. Citrus, earthy. Mildly bitter finish.
4.0 Super tropical honeydew aroma. Cloudy dark orange color with a bright white head. Big honeydew flavors as well, slight bitterness and booze to balance the sweetness. Effervescent finish. Superb IPA.
3.6 Draft at Tria Taproom. Murky apricot pour with a thick white head. Big splashes of lace. Full and juicy. Big bodied. Oddly flavored. Well hopped but notably missing the big citrus or tropical fruit flavors expected in these thicker IPAs. Wet straw. Grapeseed. Pinecones. Wool. Rye. Bee pollen. Slightly musty but not musky. Unusual. Leaves a numbness on the tongue. Not bad.
3.9 October 17th, 2015 - The famous Nelson. Drinking beers like this is instructive for learning how San Diego developed its emphatic taste for hop heavy brews. It starts with a heavy dank smell, tumbling with weed and a splash of pineapple fruitiness, and a thickness like a shake. Also, it smells a little like fog from a fog machine. The flavor follows the aroma, with a lighter body and some leather in the aftertaste, which lasts a very long time. It's dank, but not a music concert dank, and it's not too sticky either (differentiating it from some other beers that push the weed note in both the flavor profile and the marketing.) As a San Diego West Coast IPA it's excellent, and clearly a keystone in the city's beer history.
