3.3On tap at Max’s but syas IPA, not very hoppy, belgian with nice but manageable head, cloudy, honey color, spicy, with faint herbs, but a little thin overall
3.8Herbal and floral nose with light honey and a touch of lemon grass. Moderately bitter taste, lightly sweet, with floral hops, some cotton candy and honey. Medium body with soft carbonation.
3.61/8/10. On tap - thanks to Steve at kickbacks for the hookup! Mild spicy aroma that almost hints at smokey with a mix of citrus. Very nice citrusy flavor with a yeasty bite. Yum!
3.1The first glass (which consisted of 99% of foam) I could tip it. The second glass is now 90% of foam, so that the test set at the end still holds good 100ml! It only takes 5 minutes until I can start the test. Once you can see some beer, it is now slowly out an orange-yellow, well turbid beer. On the ground, relatively large particles floating around, the foam holds the position mercilessly. Then, when finally a smell test is possible, it smells bitterhoppy and good spicy. It starts rather mild, much milder than most IPAs. Fruity, sweet, with a slight hop tinge. To the center part it is somewhat alcoholic in the mouth, also comes the hop by intense, fruity acidity increases, ie, it will total more intense flavors! Until then finish remains very intense.
3.4From Beers of Europe. Thankfully, this didn’t explode on opening, but pouring was a bit of a nightmare, battling the enormous foaming head, with trying to keep the sediment in the bottle. The result was a wonderfully aromatic beer, that looked like mud, with a lot of silt at the bottom. The taste is very fruity, fresh and full, some caramel is present, with a dry, biscuity finish, that turns earthy later on, after the huge foaming head has settled. I actually had to spoon out about 9 tablespoons of foam! The alcohol is warming and rich and this could have been a really excellent beer, if it wasn’t for the massive over carbonation.
3.4Bottle and served in snifter: GUSHER that caused the beer to produce a very hazy amber hue with lots of floaties, The huge foamy head finally faded after a minute or so leaving very nice lace in it’s wake. The aroma has notes of Belgian yeast and some clear candi sugar, pils, pale, caramel/crystal malts, cloudberry, peach, and slight resiny pine hops along with a hint of lemongrass. The taste is more towards the Belgian Ale and less towards an IPA as the nose let on. Still there is just enough hop love to let you know this is a nicely hopped Belgian beer. The bitterness provide a nice balance against the sweet malt and yeasty character of the beer. The mouth feel is lightly aggressive and vibrant with a chalky and slightly astrengent tannic finish. Overall dispite the gushing beginnings, this is a nice brew that I enjoyed.
3.5Bottle with the "IPA" label. Exploded from the bottle with an overly active burst, and refused to settle for several seconds. Extremely sweet aroma, mostly of lemon detergent. I must admit I feared this was infected. But it drank smooth and crisp, with a understated hoppy character, and a hint of continental, wild, farmhouse appeal. Nice. (#4013, 11/7/2010)
3.5Light amber coloured beer with lots of carbonation and a huge white head. Hoppy, light fruity hopflower aroma. Full palate. Finish is butter hoppy with an alcholic bitter ending. Very nice brew.
3.5Bottle: Pours a hazy orange color with plenty of bottle conditioning yeast along with a big fizzy head. The nose is earthy with a dose of hops, mainly noble and lightly citrusy with some yeast and dusty pale malt notes. The flavor is clean and grassy with more hops and a clean sweet malty flavor. Finishes fairly vague, but it’s a nice approach towards an IPA. Obviously belgian, it’s like the elephant trying to hide behind a telephone pole.
2.4Aroma:It smells a little wild, lots of spice in the aroma.
Appearance:Pale gold.
Taste:The piney hops stand out sharply. It’s got some farmhouse flavors. The beer is rather dry.
Palate:Light, with a fair amount of astringency.
Overall:This beer was a bit of a challenge to get through, dry, and farmhousey.
3.7Light pale gold with strong, sudsy white head. Light fruity-sweet aroma. A bit fruity, rhine-like citrus notes and slightly earthy finish.
3.5330 ml bottle a hazy yellow colored beer with a white head aroma malts some fruit spices and hops taste fruit spices and a bitter hoppy finish
2.6This gushed a bit for me but otherwise seems uninfected though it did perhaps spend a bit too much time on the shelf. You can never tell w/ Belgians sometimes they are just overcarbonated. Sometimes there is something horribly wrong. It’s cloudy orange w/ a messy white head of large bubbles. The nose is nutty malts first and a bit of hops in the background. This is medium bodied and retained it’s carbonation despite gushing, which is normally not the case. Taste is rather similar to the nose and is notably lacking in Belgian yeast character, which is not really a problem in and of itself just not what I was expecting. It is a bit fruity but I am barely getting any bananas or cloves. A good firm bitterness rounds out the finish. This is really only decent. It has neither the vibrant hop character of a good IPA nor the spicy yeast or wonderful carbonation of a great Belgian.
3.68/10/2010 DO NOT OPEN UNLESS OUTSIDE OR NEAR A DRAIN! MAJOR GUSHER! Now that I finally have some in my glass, the head is cream colored with globs of brown trub floating on top and no lace. Color is a cloudy amber with lots of sediment in suspension or at the bottom of the glass. Aroma is very yeasty, malt, champagne. Flavor is like aroma with only a hint of sweetness. Yeast really dominates. Finish is the same way. Body is good and carbonation is too. New rating: Much better this time around! Appearance is a small, durable, off-white head, lots of lace, and a hazy amber color. Aroma is grain and yeast. Flavor’s malt, grain sweet and yeast, hop bitter. Not too complex. Body is good with a bit of alcohol warmth. Finish is very long with the bitter.
3.4Pours a five+ finger off-white head that fades quickly to a thin layer, leaving traces of lace. Cloudy amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Spicy nose. Flavor is spicy, some caramel, some grapefruit. Lingering sour finish. $5.95 for a 330ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.
3.2Bottle 330ml.Color dark orange with very big head. Aroma hop, bitter, caramel. Taste bitter hop, caramel, alcohol.
3.5Draft at Coles, Buffalo NY. Lighter blonde colored pour. Notes of Belgian yeasts, floral hops with minor pot pourri. taste is dry, floral hops, sweet tang & Belgian yeast. Pretty well balanced. Nice
3.6Hazy golden pour with a lively white head. The aroma is lemon citrus, hoppy goodness, and some mild yeasty dough. The flavor is super crisp lemon and orange notes with fruity dough notes and a grassy hop finish. Palate is medium bodied with supple caressing effervescence and a dry crisp finish.
3.6This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a extremely large sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent light yellow orange body before the yeast hit and deep dark yellow orange light brown after. The deep aroma was hoppy and floral. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The good flavor contained notes of deep floral hops. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.
3.4330 ml bottle. From Germany (bierkompass.de). OKT2011. Lot 412.
Rediculous amout of foam coming out of bottle all over the place before I was even trying to pour it. Not very easy to pour or drink since it’s foaming a lot. Lots of yeast sediment as well. Hazy yellow colour with incredibly oversized foamy white head. Fruity hoppy bitterness combined with Belgian yeast and some caramel sweetness in aroma. Flavour is Belgian yeast, bitter hops, sweet caramel, malt and spices. Quite strong. Alcohol warming well present. Interesting mixture of well hopped ale and Belgian Ale. Good but not exactly the cream of the crop.
3.5poured golden with a nice head that stuck around tasted more belgian style then ipa very drinkable
3.7A silly amount of foam came out of the bottle. Other than that, it smelled and tasted great. Even though this is probably an old bottle (bought on clearance) the hop aroma and flavor have stuck around along with an earthiness and woodsiness. A tasty beer, but with the sheer amount of sediment, I am guessing this is a fairly old bottle.
3.2Bottled sample consumed at Cambrinus. Hazy dark gold with very strong carbonation. Aromas are a mix of tropical and citrus fruit, dank hops, and some pale malts. The hops continue their dominance in the mouth with earthy and floral elements, along with some guava. Malts provide some balance. It comes across as being boozier than it really is. Medium bodied. Too tropical for me.
3.7pours hazy light orange with white head, it has sweet floral aroma and fruity flavor that is balanced with orange peel. the mouthfeel is creamy and the balance is excellent. a great wheat brew.
4.1On tap at Max’s in Baltimore. Light yellow pour with no head. Aroma is floral honey pollen. Some hops. Flavor is like a blissful kick in the teeth. Honey sweet hop bitter pollen floral. Really nice. Great beer.
3.4Bottled (from bierkompass.de). ’kin hell what a gusher over the table, rug and couch. Or then I am an epic fail in opening Belgian beer these days. Anyhow, the beer poured a yellowish golden hazy thing, with a huge bubbly head. Aroma rather hoppy, with some yeast and also some bready and slight sweet maltyness. Flavour quite hoppy with sweet and bready malts along with some spices and yeast. Pleasant, and quite bitter for being Belgian. And yes, by writing this I have cleaned the table and saved the couch. The rug needs to wait for summer, so I can wash it properly...
3.1bottle - hazy orange yellow beer with a huge white head. Aroma has strong citrus hoppy notes. Flavour is bitter and somehow sour. Could have a little bit more Maltiness to balance the bitterness. Lively carbonation.
3.4[bottle]
Complex aroma with sour white grape, sour banana, some floral hops, and sweet pineapple. Cloudy dark yellow under a rocky, white cover. Potent hops bitterness at first taste mellows out to an assertive, but not astringent, transcendant characteristic, masking lemony sweet malt and herbal hops. Significant ethanol flavour as well. Light to medium body, high carbonation, lasting bitterness that is too much for me.
3.1Bottle.
Hazy orange with a large white head.
Rather pleasant aroma of fruit (especially apricot), yeast and hay. Taste of fruit, spices, hay, yeast, apples and detergent. Medium body with a lot of carbonation. Bitter finish.
3.2From a bottle purchased at Ramsey Liquors in NJ, well over a year ago but kept in my fridge. Pours golden with a lot of floating particles with a huge frothy white head, very foamy. Aroma and flavor of pear, white grapes/wine, lemon, herbal hops and hay. Has a tinge of malty sweetness with the hops playing a balancing role, not IPA-bitter. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.
