3.5 Bottle cellared in 2008. I was seduced by it being a strong Belgian ale (8% abv). But its hoppiness might not be as good as it might have been had I drunk it fresh. So this may not be as the brewer intended it to taste when he put it in the bottle. The beer pours out a bright yellow at the start, but once it’s in the glass, it turns a dark orange. There’s a lot of stuff floating around in it, whether that’s bits of hop leaf, spices or yeast sediment, I’m not sure from sight. The smell is malty and alcoholic with definite honey, somehow, maybe cinnamon as well. The taste shows more of that honey and light spice. The hops do come in with the aftertaste of the first sip. A citrussy American hop, but with the bitterness entirely aged out. The last pour is murky, and only with the last sip did I get any taste of dead yeast. Overall the beer is malty with noticeable alcohol, turning just a bit phenolic, but it hung in there over six years. A well-recommended beer for a winter warmer of after dinner.
3.5 330ml bottle BB Sep 17. Clear amber with large foamy lasting white head. Big spicy and funky belgian yeast aromas, stone fruits, resiny and grassy hops, bread. Taste is funky & spicy yeast, grassy, herbal and vegetal hop character, light tang, bready malt, light honey. Full bodied. Not bad at all, but a little coarse and unrefined.
3.4 330mL bottle from International Beer Collector. BB SEP 2017 Pours a hazy gold body, big dense white head forms atop. Hops dominate the nose - floral, grassy, citrus leaf, touch of wood spice, with rich pale caramel, toast, stonefruit esters & white pepper. Palate is drying, boozy upfront, bitterness is all-encompassing. Body reveals stacks of grass, stonefruit, spice & bitterness. Nothing particularly well defined, all amalgamated into some sort of intense bitter warming brew. Intent is there, seems to lack finesse.
3.1 Bottle 0,33. Pours a bit hazy and golden with large white head. Aroma of yeast, bread, barnyard, leather. Taste is wood, grapefruit, fruits, some sweetness. Medium body and average carbonation.
3.4 Bottle at Bobs Brewery. Clear yellow with a large white head. Bretty nose with barnyard and leather, some must, mild citrus, crisp fruit. The flavour is dominated by brett; barnyard and band aid. Some wood, green plants, flowers, peach, sweet tropical fruits. Medium body, lively carbonation, mild sweetness, dry finish. Long fruity and bretty finish. Shapeshifting.
3.7 Bottle at home. Takes a while to pour because of the huge foam. Aroma is pale malt, funky yeast, brett, fruits, fruit peel, citrus, hoppy notes. Flavour is light to moderate sweet, slightly tart and medium bitter. Body is medium with pretty lively carbonation. Curious beer, hoppy and bretty, I quite like this.
3.4 Not quite sure what Alvinne was brewing here. Aroma was weak and was not indicative of the beer, the taste of the hops and the beer did not meld.
3.5 Bottle at home (bb Feb 17). Pours clouded yellow with a large white head. Lots of yeast deposit at the end. Light tart aroma, barnyard, funk, lemon, malts, yeast. Taste is light tart, moderate bitter, lemon, yeast, malts, dry finish, moderate bitter aftertaste. Not really an ipa, but not bad.
4.2 incredibly hazy golden colour, moderate sized white head; aroma of orange zest, apricot, boiled celery, overripe tropical fruits, and toffee notes; taste is the same; strange...anyway, I really like it
3.6 Bottle @ Beer Club Pula, Croatia. Heavy gusher that pours hazy dark yellow with a fading white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, light brett, sweet fruit, ripe peach, some sweet citrus, orange. Flavor is light sweet at first, light bitter, light malty, brett, fruit, citrus. Medium body, lively carbonation, light bitter and lasting dry finish. 030816
3.4 Orange with good carbonation but head disappears. Citrus fruit and dry wood in the nose. Earth, spruce, lemon zest, wood. More sour bitterness in the long finish. Interesting but the bitterness is too dominant and hinders some aromas
3.4 Bottle. Hazy deep golden color with a huge foamy off-white head. Aroma of honey, wheat and lemon. Sour and bitter taste. Medium body. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.4 Bottle at home. Bit of a gusher in classic Alvinne style. Deep golden with some little particles drifting around. Some funk, sweet malts and toffee, hay, lots of fruit skins, grapefruit, marmalade. Really massive bitter herbal and grassy hops. Over medium sweet, light sour and very bitter with a long lasting puckering bitter finish. Over medium bodied with soft oily feel. It’s interesting, but the bitter finish is a bit over the top. There’s a huge contrast between that and the nice aromas.
3.7 33 cl. bottle. Hazy orange colour with an off-white head. Aroma and flavour of yeast, hops, malt, spice, caramel and fruit.
2.7 Belgian style IPA, that means is this beer: lots of bitterness, but no hoparoma alomost though. I prefer not too drink this one again if i han choose between this one and a real IPA.
3.2 Bottle at home. Another gusher! Pour is cloudy orange amber with a thin white head and lots of sediment. Lots of funky hop with a slightly sour edge. Sweet to start then hugely bitter. Rich malty base, citrus orange and candy sweet. Dry finish. Not sure about this one.
3.4 Hazy dark orange color with tan white head. Aroma is lots of floral and citrus hops, bread, spicy yeasts, a bit dusty. Taste is the same, very bready, dry bitter finish. 8% not noticeable. The bitterness feels a bit medicinal. Rather high carbonation. Quite extreme. Both aroma and flavours have a touch or Orval character, but drift off in a completely different direction.
3.2 Van ‘t vat. Oranjekleurig bier met dunne witte schuimkraag. Geur: bitterig, kaneel. Smaak: Bitter – zoetig – zurig met een vreemd vuil aards randje, wel leuk, doet me denken aan een Ierse whiskey. Bitterig – zurige afdronk.
3.6 (Bottle, Nuetnigenough, Brussels, 17 Oct 2015) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fair amount of yeast sediment in the bottle. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of white bread, grassy hops and some yeast. Malty, hoppy taste with bread, grass, citrus, a touch of yeast and a generous grassy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty, with a generous grassy hop character. Nice one.
2.6 Bottle @ Rootz. Light orange (although quite dark in Rootz), no foam at all. High hoppy aroma and very bitter (118 IBU). Not that great in taste. (The Hague 201512)
3.6 Bottl. Nose is funky, yeast, perfume, strawberry, hint of grape, hops, dust, hint of tobacco leaf. Taste is hops, peach, funk, hint of summer fruits, leading to a herbal, meidicinal, pine and funky finish. Hints of citrus with lots of lime in the body, grapefruit emerging. Complex and interesting, but as with all the Alvinne, beers I’ve tried, they are all interesting, but I never love them,
3.1 Cloudy orange color, huge white head, coffee like creaminess and simply refuses to go away. Aroma is fruity, winey, obviously wild. Nothing special. Taste is really tarty, winey, some fruitiness. Not that interesting really. That wild yeast is kinda overpowering and not in a good way. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.7 Bottle 0,33l at Beer Club in Pula, Cro. Orange cloudy liquid with gigantic head. Aromatic, wine smell. Medium to heavy body and carbonation. Heavy bitterness but not hard to drink. Grapefruit bitterness. Well balanced with some sweetness. Peachy taste. Nice and rich. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
3.1 Pours a beautiful gold red with lacy white head. Smell is malty without much else. Taste starts a bit empty with a malty finish and some honey throughout. A bit boring to taste, but beautiful to look at.
3.3 0.33 bottle. Pours golden, hazy, quite unpleasant sediments, with large, white, creamy head with good retention. Aromas; herbs, grass, malts, cookies, a bit fruity, with phenolic, spicy notes. Taste is moderately sweet with high bitterness and hints of alcohol. Highly carbonated. I often noticed slight gushing at opening of Alvinne’s beers.
3.0 From Uvinum. In Teku glass. After dinner. Not as bad as its sister beer Balthazar. Its a bit stinky but its taste isnt too bad.
3.9 Cloudy orange color, huuuge off-white head. Pretty nice aroma, bubblegum and fresh strawberry. Taste is fruity, bitterwseet with spices. Medium body, average carbonation. Quite good, a real unexpected surprise. //Vrutak
3.7 Bottle at 100 piv. Bretty aroma but fortunately not as bretty in flavour. Rather complex. Classic bretty bubblegum, but also spicy and earthy. Leathery barnyard. Very good but falls short of excellence. For one I seriously doubt the 115 IBUs they claim on the label.
