3.6 75 cl Bottle - BBD = 02/2014 I enjoyed this beer, but stout’s are just not my thing really. I’d love to drink this once again, but would not especially go and search for it. Just a decent beer.
3.9 Bottle shared at the Hoopy Pub, Thessaloniki, from trade with Douberd. Thanks Christos! Black color with beige head. Malty and yeasty aroma, tart fruity, vinous, wood, oak, light roasted, milk chocolate, coffee. Sweet, light bitter and acidic taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation
3.9 Pours a dark mahogany brown with fluffy tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, malts, tobacco, and some woody notes. Flavors of bitter chocolate, plums, and wine barrel.
3.6 bottle from jonas, ordered 2010. Black-brown color with small tan head. Aroma is french oak, some apples, caramel, dark malts. Taste is apples, roasted malts, bone-dry coffee finish. Quite tanninic.
3.4 Bottle, at least 5 years old. Brown, light brown ring. Applebarrel note, caramel, especially deep on the palate, burned pancake, oxidized - madeira, marmelade retronsal. Medium full palate. Interesting, do I want to drink this again tomorrow? Probably not.
3.3 (bottle) hazy deep ruby-brown colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of red wine and raisins, with a touch of caramel, some coconut and black bread crusts. flavour is mostly treebark and alcohol, with some more earth, black forest cake and a light-bitter finish. heavy-bodied with lively carbonation.
3.8 Pours brown, with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is chocolate, dark fruit, alcohol, wine, and a touch of wood. Body is a little thinner than expected.
4.1 30/07/2015 @Centerparcs – 50cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck Black with very small tanned head, small lacing after that. Burder malts, coffee, light licorice and small hints of sourness and wine. First sips I didn’t like but it became better and better
4.1 Special edition. Only 9% abv. Pours black with a 2 finger head of tan foam sitting on top. I get some fruity tartness and roasted malt up front with a mild nose of wood. The tartness is the first thing I notice in the taste followed by roasted malt, dark chocolate bitterness, and some wood from the oak. All of the flavours seem to working together nicely and the alcohol is not in your face. Just some warming after each of the swallows. Close to full bodied with medium to medium light carbonation. I do like this offering from Alvinne.
3.4 Sample at ACBF 2015 with S&G tasting group. APPEARANCE: black beer, nice stable beige head. NOSE: sour, caramel, coffee, chocolate, burned malts. TASTE: sour, caramel, coffee, chocolate, burned malts.
4.2 Sampled draft @ ACBF 2015. Tried as Alvinne The Oak Podge. Finally got to try one of these Podge beers. This is my 68th Alvinne beer & the regular Podge is their most rated beer & I have never had. Black, little mocha bubbles. Nose is iron, liquorish, herbal, sweet thick, little molasses. Taste is sweet sugar, liquorish, light herbal, molasses sticky, sweet herbal, coffee, not picking up much wine. Thick malt body. Pretty decent & enjoyable. (Thanks for sharing people!!!)
3.6 Dark brown, can’t see through it 1 finger head that faded quickly Oak tannins, coffee, some roasted barley. Not really a sour beer, maybe a bit at the finish. has a nice coffee some cream flavors, some bits of salad but finish is chocolate cake without sweetness.
3.4 Draught. This is a nice little impy that checks all the boxes but failed to really excite me.
3.3 Wine and sour notes with a hint of chocolate. No warmth and smooth palate with some alcohol in the aftertaste.
3.7 750ml. 2009. Brune aux reflets rougeâtre. Vin rouge. Porto. Très fruité. Baies. Cerise. Cassis. Boisé. Épicé. Belle acidité. Levures sauvages. Astringente.
4.0 Tap at Churchkey. Pours opaque black with a large, creamy tan head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is tart plums, acetic cherries and figs with earthy hops, oak, vinous notes and cookie malt. Flavor is sweet malt, acetic dark fruits, light hops and bitterness, oak and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.
4.2 Bottle: Thanks Ken: Served in a shaker: Gusher and a foam snake afterwards. Deep dark brown to black colored beer with a medium sized beige foamy head on top. Aromas of vinous notes, berries, coal, roast, wilder yeast tones, some wood, roasted malts, coffee, tart prunes with a bay leaf edge. Flavours of berries, light tart, more bitter, wild yeast, some cellar tones, roast, some mocha, more coffee, light dry, light bay leaf, wood roast tones, malt roast and light sticky. Aftertaste is roasty, vinous, berries, some red fruit, wood, bitters and wilder yeast. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium to fuller bodied and a creamy texture. What the heck, this is tasty and smooth. Somewhat complex yet an easy drinker. And no traces of alcohol, well done! Delicious!
3.7 Bottle tried at Nya Tröls. Chocolaty and vanilla with a lot of oak-aromas. Some sour-tartness with dark fruits.
3.6 Rated on 5-25-2011 (Bottle 9%ABV) This beer has a large very fizzy beige head with a short retention, reddish brown body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is malt, oak, some chocolate, vanilla, some hops, alcohol, and some dark fruit. The taste is malt, alcohol, vanilla, oak, light sournes, and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is light carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. A rather tasty beer with some different flavors for the style.
3.9 Bottle 750 ml from a trade with Countbeer, thanks Kamiel! ABV 10.5%, poured into a tulip glass. Same case with the Eycken, I was sure it was going to gush and it did, thankfully I was prepared. HUGE GUSHER! Vwery dark brown colour on the body, small tan head. Okay retention, light lacing left on the glass. Aroma of red grapes, lots of vinous notes, cork, wood, light chocolate. Taste is much better than I expected actually, I expected something very sour but it’s not like that, there is a sourness but quite subtle. Roasted malts, light chocolate again, grapes, wine notes, wood, barely sweet on the finish. On the aftertaste a mild bitterness coming from the roasted malts. Quite complex with a wide range of flavours. The high alcohol very well hidden. Full body, soft carbonation. Overall a great beer. Just a month past BBD, at its peak or it certainly seems so. The barrel aging surely added something in this one.
3.7 Bottle bought from Etre Gourmet in 2011? Dark reddish/brown with a small head. The aroma was a bit tart with berries, wood, nuts and red wine. Similar taste, also some licorice. An interesting and vinous "Imperial Stout".
3.3 @Eddan: ganska komplex doft av både jordgubbar och nötter samt en liten hint av rödvin (fat). Smaken är lite udda med syrlig tone samtidig som den ger en torr och nötaktig ton. Inte mycket som påminner om en imp stout.
3.8 750ml bottle. Murky dark red-brown shade with thin cap. Big fruity red wine and chocolatey cocoa aroma. Taste follows the exact same path. Medium body, medium carb. Not hugely complex, but pretty tasty. The wine barrel works in good harmony with this stout.
3.6 Best before October of 2014. Appearance: The beer pours a lighter shade of brown than most stouts and appears a deep chestnut instead of black in the glass. The head is towering at first but settles into a frothy cappuccino coating. Aroma: Cocoa is most present with a slightly acidic red wine characteristic with hints of tannins. The aroma is restrained and becomes very muddled upon swirling, it’s most prevelant with cocoa and red grape when settled for a moment. Taste: The intro is a bit confusing, but a blend of cocoa and semi-sweet red wine flavors, the flavors separate by the mid taste with deep chocolate notes overlying a pronounced red wine and cherry presence that is strongest near the finish with a dry red wine spritzer like presence. The red wine finish is taken over by deep chocolate sweetness, but the red wine and tannins linger. Palate: Light to medium bodied with high carbonation. Overall: This is pricey, but it’s very intriguing. I feel the dry wine accents the sweet chocolate very nicely. This would have been a great beer to pair with a cherry cheesecake or something with cherries in it for desert, unfortunately my bottle took a soft fall out of the fridge and I had to drink it as the cap came loose.
3.5 750 ml. bottle from PhillyCraft. Hmmm. This doesn’t really look like a stout. It has a dark amber, reddish tint to it with a disappearing khaki colored head. The aroma is SUPER vinous. Lots of oak, red wine, sherry, some nuttiness and dark red fruit. Kind of like a nice aged barleywine. The flavor is the same. Full bodied with lighter carbonation. Sherry, nuts, red wine and oak stand out. Pretty decent offering.
3.8 18th February 2012 Cloudy brown beer, good pale tan head. Comparatively light palate. Crispy and semi dry. Hardly any dark malt here. Lots of red wine. Minerals. A little wood in the back end. Mild aniseed alcohol. Semi dry finish. The base beer is overwhelmed by the barrel. But still very nice! 30th October 2018 Beer now gushes - predictably. Not much oxidisation here. The dominant red wine still dominates but has mellow, a little Port Wine going on. Mild tang, no sourness. Mild dust, well buried. Modest spice. Still drinking well all these years later, but open it over the sink!
3.7 Bottle, 10cl, at BAJT porter week 2012. Murky brown, almost no head. Nice thick aroma with licorice, a difficult to pinpoint wine character and chocolate. Taste: licorice, chocolate, vinous, dark and red berries, sweet, light boozy. Nice, with a heavy barrel influence.
3.7 Bottled at Bishops Arms Järntorget, Göteborg, during "Porterveckan 2012". Sold by 5 or 10 cl, I had 5. On November 25, 2012. Dark brown to black color, tan head. Sweet, malty, alcohol scent. Malty, vinous taste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness.
3.6 Bottle at home in Skövde. Dark amber/redish beer with a beige head. Vanilla, chocolate, oaky, berry aroma with some vinous alcohol notes. Berry, alcohol, fruity, vanilla flavour with some viol notes.
3.7 75cl bottle, pours black brown with a fine clingy beige head, aroma of wine barrel, coffee, and caramel, rich and smoky body, wood and old wine, light tartness, coffee and treacle, earthy alcohol notes, great complex flavour though very light finish.
