Amager / 18th Street Lawrence of Arabica

Amager / 18th Street Lawrence of Arabica

English: One day we received an email from the Mikkeller HQ saying that they had an American gentleman coming to Copenhagen. The name of this gentleman was Mr. Drew Fox who not only happened to have his own brewery close to Chicago back home, but who also would love to come visit Amager Bryghus to brew a beer.
That kind of proposal is simply impossible to turn down, so we found an open slot in our brewing schedule. For quite some time we had been curious about brewing a beer that had both coffee and orange zest, and since Drew has created several excellent coffee beers at his 18th Street Brewery we sat down to create Lawrence of Arabica, a Coffee Orange Porter. A mild and easygoing Porter, with an orange twist.
We don’t hesitate to call Drew one of the kindest and friendliest dudes in the craft beer world, and we are honored to have created this beer with him.

Dobre.
3.8 A 500ml bottle, batch no. 1095 with a best before date of July 2018. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass. It was a dark dark brown in colour with a one finger mocha head that dissipates quickly and leaves only sparse lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and dark roasted malts with only subtle hints of orange peel. Tastes of strong bitter coffee, milk chocolate, roasted malts and a light herbal element with only hints of candied orange peel in the background. Light to medium bodied with low carbonation. Overall a nice and easy drinking Porter with good strong coffee flavours. The orange was perhaps a little light such that I probably would have missed it if it wasn’t written on the label. Still pretty good though.
3.6 500ml bottle. Now, I'll admit, I let this sit in the cellar for what was probably too long. Considering that, it's still pretty decent. Pours black with a thin chestnut coloured head. On the nose, cocoa, roasty dark malt notes, strong notes of dark roast coffee grounds (not coffee, but the actual grounds), light caramel notes, and some minerality. Thinner bodied than expected and lightly sweet with dark bitter coffee notes up front, roasty malts, and a very faint hint of orange that veers into HUGE dry coffee notes, dark roasted malts, light cocoa, with a long and very tannic finish complete with orange peel.
3.8 Pours pitch black with one finger thick tan head. Aroma is rich of roasted coffee beans, mocha, every kind of coffee, and dark chocolate with spicy peppery notes underneath. Has this bottle passed its prime even being this coffee charged? Can't get the orange though. just an alcoholic hint. Taste is again a coffee bomb with creamy dark chocolate tones to balance the bitterness. Full body and thick. Great porter.
3.8 A black beer, a head is quite big and beige. Aroma has strong and natural coffee, some liquorice, chocolate and hazelnusts. Taste has coffee, that's not so strong as in the aroma, roastiness, chocolate, balanced sweetness. I can't find the orange. Medium bodied, nicely smooth. Enjoyable, coffee beer.
4.0 swiezo mielona kawa, slodko, gesto, dalej w smaku nadal kawa- bardzo fajny aromat, do teg9 mleczna czekolada. super
3.7 0,5l bottle at home shared with friends. BB 07/2019. black color, small tan head. smells of coffee, bitter herbal, espresso, earthy. very nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of coffee, earthy, bitter herbal, very light lactose, peppery, grassy. finishes medium bitter with strong notes of coffee, licorice, some lactose and light herbal. rather nice one but rather on the bitter side, liked the smell quite a bit better. good stuff overall. 8, 4, 7, 3, 15
3.5 bottle. #1386 dark brown, small light brown head. aroma has roasted malts, oranges, coffee flavor is hard roasted malts, good dose of coffee, faint flowery note, oranges. base beer is pretty tight, dry and hardcore coffee porter ish, the oranges adds a little bit of zest to it, like filled coffee chocolates with oranges. it gets close to my tolerance for bittersweet, but the base beer is so dry and hard roasted that stuff works out after all.
4.0 Lekker
3.8 Bottle. Almost pitch black, brownish head. Heavy coffee aroma. Fresh, huge, raw but not rough. Taste... Huge coffee on bitter coffee finish. Did I say coffee? Coffee. Coffee all over the place. On a solid malty body, lean, too lean. Whoa. Very good indeed. Coffee beer the way it should be.
3.8 50cl Bottle @ Cervezalandia, Vall d'Uixo, Spain Black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, sweet, chocolate, mugicha, licorice. Medium body, average to low carbonation.
3.9 Bottled 500ml. -from Beergium. Pitch black coloured, small to medium sized brown head, pure coffee in the nose. Roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, oat flakes, notes of hops and oranges with dry roasted coffee in the finish. Another enjoyable brew from Amager.
4.1 Bottle, 0.50. Pours pitch black color with thin creamy light brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, mild citrus, some smoke and even bit of sweat. Taste starts with mild sweet and sour coffee, following is grainy, continues with roasted malt, dark chocolate and licorice with light zesty note, mouthfeel is warming and mild spic, while finish is pretty bitter with long lasting aftertaste. Medium body, creamy texture and soft carbonation in palate. Feels like a coffee overdose...
3.8 Bouteille 50cl. Brune, col beige.
3.4 Black body, small brown head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, ashes, very light orange skin flavors (perhaps only because it was on the label). Flavours of coffee, cocoa, caramel, ashes, alcohol fusel. Medium cocoa and coffee bitter dry finish.
3.7 Ocena z notatek celem uzupełnienia profilu. Bardzo mi podeszło, sam mam ochotę uwarzyć coś podobnego.
3.9 Aromat: mocny i intensywny, świeża, wysokiej jakości kawa, czekolada, karmel, melasa, trochę paloności. Dosyć gładkie i aksamitne, wysycenie niskie, finisz gorzkawy i lekko cierpki, goryczka palona chwilę zalega.
3.6 [9140-20170414] 500mL bottle. Mild capsicum and toasted breadcrumbs aroma. Black brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Bitter roasted coffee grains flavour. Full body. Good, simple -- great name and label too. (7/3/8/4/14) 3.6
3.6 2017-04-14. Black body, quick tan head. 3+ Aroma of dry toasty coffee. Flavour is coffee forward over dark malt body. Coffee is bitter over a relatively sweet base. Average plus bodied palate, carbonation. Decent. 7/3-4/7/3/15 Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.
3.3 Bottle from Saveur beer. Pours black with little or no head. Aroma is a strong coffee bean with a dark chocolate lift. Flavour is coffee bean, dark bittering chocolate. Not getting much orange in this. There is an unpleasant dry ash finish. Was expecting a bit more.
4.2 Black, fizzy, quickly faded head, sediments and no lacing. Strong aroma of coffee and toasted malts. Slick mouthfeel, straight burnt-bitter, dominated by coffee, very rich and malty, with notes of chocolate and orange peel. Creamy, low carbonation feeling besides the first fizzy scene. Excellent porter!
3.6 500ml bottle. Pours nearly black with a half finger of tan head aflnd some sediments from the bottom. Aroma has big notes of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, and some nut shells. Not really a lot of orange. Taste is on the bitter side with huge coffee, very slight orange, caramel, dark chocolate, and a long, drawn out espresso ending. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Fairly clean but fuller in the mouth with a bone dry finish. Overall a huge, unbalancing about of coffee with a touch of orange, dark chocolate, and caramel.
4.2 Ciemno brunatne, nieprzejrzyste. piana brązowa, drobna, obfita.
3.8 From Tercer tiempo cervezas. In Teku glass. Playing Technobabylon. This mix of flavors between orange zest and coffee (both easily noticeable) feels sometimes nice, sometimes tiresome, then nice again, then tiresome... I have to try more of this kind to be sure if i like it
3.9 50cl bottle from Beervana. Pours a deep and viscous dark nutty brown with a medium tan head that diminishes slowly and laces well. Aroma is intensely malty with glimpses of orange zest. Prevailing notes of cocoa, chocolate bitter, roasted coffee grains, espresso, earth, roasted nuts, brownie and almond liquor. Really nice. Taste is balanced between the complex sweetness, the intense roastiness and cocoa/coffee bitter touches. It has the acidity of Central American Arabica espresso. The coffee and the chocolate bitter prevail. Big, luscious body. A bit heavy for a 7% Porter. Fine, balanced throughout finishing well. Succulent. Another winner from Amager.
3.4 Bottle from LCBO. Pitch black with tan head. Aromas of bitter coffee, cocoa, faint orange, some leather and vanilla and licorice. Similar flavours. There’s a bit of an odd flavour to this I can’t place.
4.3 I’m addicted to butts .. . Bottle .. Deep brown black .. Mild medium foam .. Will power .. Roast, toast, coffee, coffee grounds, only whiffs of citrus .. Glum yet would mouth .. Very well done, it surprised me immensely, that and I started singing in the local choir today!? Wish me luck not popping a boner during the performances
4.0 500ml bottle, deep black color, with a thick fluffy tan-coloured head, nice strong coffee, mild fruity roasted, chocolate, wheat malty, burnt toast nose, with some semi-bitter chocolate baking bar, burnt brownie, subtle roasted peanut shells, burnt chocolate cake, faint burnt molasses accents and a light earthy floral leafy, grassy hop, faint tobacco tea leaf, faint raw cocoa note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good sweet earthy roasted, chocolate, wheat malty, black coffee, burnt molasses, bitter chocolate character with some chocolate cake, faint zesty orange peel, burnt toasted, light flowery leafy, grassy hop, subtle tea leaf, subtle roasted peanut flavours, leading towards a coffeeish, dark bitter chocolate, yeasty, black, roasted, chocolate, wheat malt bitterness finish.
3.6 Draft to taster in a flight at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a very dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma has dark roasted malts, black coffee, and chocolate but very little orange. The flavor has more of the same, dark roasted malts, black coffee, chocolate, a hint of the orange to the finish, softer toward the finish.
