Amager / Against The Grain The Great Big Kentucky Sausage Fest

Amager / Against The Grain The Great Big Kentucky Sausage Fest

English: We expected banjos and Bourbon but received nothing of that sort. Instead our brew day with the handsome fellers of Against The Grain Brewery from Louisville, Kentucky turned into a hotdog eating contest. Yep, no kiddin’.
Big Kentuckian feller, Sam, challenged our own big feller, Jacob, as to who could down the most gourmet hotdogs, big and spicy as they were with specialty toppings. Well, Sam should never have done that….should you Sam?
However, a beer was indeed brewed in between all the trash talk and wieners. We hope you’ll enjoy this hoppy Imperial Brown Ale - it was designed to go with hotdogs in particular and other spicy and smoked foods.

Ingredients: Water. Malts: Pale, Brown, Melanoidin, Biscuit, Chocolate. Hops: Herkules, Tomahawk, East Kent Goldings, Cascade, Simcoe. Yeast: US-ale.

3.7 Starts with very inviting nose, maybe thats way taste afterwards seems bit too plain, but anyways, quite a treat! Intense maltiness, nice coffee, caramel, nuts, bit licorice, some nice hop boost. MOderate sweetness with moderate bitterness. Well balanced and bold brew.
3.6 Aroma: melanoidins, roasted caramel and nuts, dried red fruits. Appearance: hazy brown color, creamy head. Taste: medium bitterness, roasted notes, coffee, nuts, caramel, crunch bread skin, dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Good stuff, but it tastes like a doppelsticke.
3.9 Aroma: Metallic sausage, coffee and caramel. Very very nice aroma. Taste is basically the same, but bit plane and could have more sugar. Nevertheless very very likable
3.2 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks kerenmk. Dark amber-brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel, nuts, a bit of yeast. Sweet flavor with caramel, nuts, toast, and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.
3.5 Bottle. Hazy, brown color with small white head. Aroma has barnyard, yeast, malt, citrus, ripe fruits. Taste is malty sweet with long aftertaste. Flavors of malt, nuts, ripe fruits and citrus and pine in hops.
3.7 Cloudy brown colour. Little bit of foam. Lacing. IntenseIntense malty, fruity aroma. Medium bitterness. Little sweetness.
3.8 Roasted malts and hops in aroma. Dark brown chestnut colour. Lacing and foam lasts. Hoppy malt in tastetaste.
3.8 Bottle. Sensoric glass. Hazy brown with medium, light brown head. Good lacing and medicore head retention. Great mixture of passion fruit, nuts and milk chocolate - quite intensive aroma. Also some roasted coffee and cocoa nibs. Taste is medium bitter with nice sweet, malty punch. Medium body, creamy texture, medium carbonation, finish is bitter.
3.6 (Amager / Against The Grain The Great, Big Kentucky Sausage Fest ) Bottle 500 ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 7.7% Brown coloured body, quite clear, with one finger of tan head, with good density and retention. Aroma has spicy hops, biscuit, chocolate notes. Taste also of chocolate, biscuits, light toffee, quite bitter all in all, nice hoppy touches on the finish, some spices. Medium body with good carbonaion. Nice.
3.7 Pours caramel-colored, opaque. A few flecks in suspension. Aroma is malty and sweet. Lots of dark roasted malt and alcohol burn in the flavor. Medium body.
3.3 Hazy muddy brown with a lot of particulate matter; minimal tan head. Sweet aroma with hints of vanilla bean. Sweet and strongly alcoholic flavor with a bit of smoke. Very complex with different feels all over the mouth, ending with a harsh alcoholic buzz.
3.5 Bottle. Brown color, white head. Aroma of passion fruit, hop and brown nutty malt. Taste of fruity hop, hazelnut, malt, some pine and banana-ish yeast. Strange beer, hard to pinpoint. Not bad, but a little top yeasty.
3.3 How: Bottle. Where: Systembolaget. Appearance: Hazy amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma: Tropical fruit, malt, chocolate, grapefruit. Body: Full body, medium carbonation. Flavour: Tropical fruit, roasted malt, grapefruit, some alcohol.
3.7 Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours hazy deep brown with a frothy and creaym bornwish beige gead that leaves some sparse trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, herbal and earthy with dark bread, caramel, grapefruit juice, resinous wood, moist grass, pine needles, dry tobacco, orang zest and lemon zest. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter, malty, herbal and easrthy with dark bread, caramel, grapefruit, moist grass, pine needles, resin, liquorice, tobacco, orange zest and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is soft, round, astringent, tiny boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with caramel, toffee, grapefruit, moist grass, pine needles, resin, orange zest and lemon zest. Very hoppy and bitter ASA. Enjoyable kick in the teeth...
3.0 500ml bottle - thanks Kairi! Very weird aroma, dirty, stodgy, a bit grainy, caramel, husks, but messy and dirty. Anna gets stale coffee. Slightly soapy taste, plenty of caramel and husky grains. Rabbit food. Nice brown, large tight orangy tan persistent head. Palate again a bit stodgy, probably melanoidin malts. Husk brown ale taste, a little bitter. Later there’s some chocolate in the finish too. Kinda passable brown ale, but very messy.
3.1 Thanks, John Mays, for the gift --- Hazy brown with a solid 2" beige head, sheet of lace. Taste is strong malt with a heavy shot of chocolate, followed by noticeable hops that move to a finish that has overtones of grass and hay, with perhaps a bit of smoke. Not well-balanced or connected, leaving it short of expectations.
4.0 Это пиво вкусное. я, конечно, рекомендую его всем, что любит хорошую Craft пива!
3.7 Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours really dark copper with a yellowish tan head. Smells like a nutty amber. Med body or so. Flavor is nutty, somewhat roasty malt, and notes of chocolate. Apparently a strong nutty brown ale. Not my favorite sort of drink, but the ABV seems helpful, and the nuttiness isn’t very greasy. Certainly drinkable. There seems to be enough hop to render it towards bitter, and it even moves towards dry. Bacon would have been a good touch. :)
4.4 L’escuma es densa. Persistent.
3.4 Aroma: sweets, caramel, cocoa, smoke, herbal, malty Taste: sweet, high bitterness, cocoa, caramel, malty, a bit roasty, too long bitterness
4.4 This is absolute perfection, or at least pretty close. I drank this alongside norwegian christmas rib, but I guess it will perfectly match the sausage fest. Lots of chocolate in the taste, but in general well balanced, great and complex aroma, and dry and everlasting aftertaste.
4.0 Such a solid, complex, and delicious beer! Hint of smoke, cocoa, brown sugar, and just enough hops to make it interesting. Love the complexity and depth here...might have to make something that would compliment this to share with the family!
3.8 Opaque crimson, strong white head. Roast, maybe some cocoa and caramel on the nose. Some light hop notes. Thick body, balanced taste - smooth, finishes bitter and warming. Overall - super smooth, lovely. In the taste - roastiness, caramel and all good things. Very very good.
4.0 Not entirely certain what to make of this one. Strikes me as a smoked beer. Am I getting bourbon? No.
3.5 Poured a clear reddish brown with a frothy off white head. Aroma of sweet fruit, light chocolate and coffee, light malt. Medium body, lightly musty, flavour as the aroma, moderately fruity sweetness, lightly bitter nuts in the finish.
4.5 Allmost clear copper colour, with a rich head. Aroma of biscuits, chocolate ,smoke and caramel. Taste : grains, caramel, chocolate roasty malts. Full body. Very interesting and little bit strange taste. Overall, very good.
3.8 4oz on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Clear darker red orange color, thin ring of off-white head. Leaves decent ridges of lace. Big heavy roast coffee in the nose, and lots of cocoa nib. Heavy roast coffee dominates the flavor thereafter, which I don’t mind at all. Bitter, dark dark chocolate. Earthy hops. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Good chewiness to the texture, seems like a nice use of flaked malts here. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, light to moderate sweet, more dry finish. Really enjoyable stuff. Love the big coffee and cocoa flavors.
4.0 Piękny aromat toffi, karmelu, z nutą orzechów ziemnych i amerykańskiego chmielu Brunatne, nieprzejrzyste z piękną czapą piany.
3.4 Deep chestnut color. Big off white head. Plenty of lacing. Big nutty malt aroma with hints of vanilla and caramel. Taste is the same with a bit of a carbonic bite.
3.8 Draft. Poured clear dark copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted toasted sweet malt, smoke and hop aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. My expectations were surpassed.
