Amager / Cigar City Game of Arms

Amager / Cigar City Game of Arms

Should anybody ever ask us which two breweries in the craft beer world are the two manliest, we wouldn’t hesitate for a second before naming Tampa’s Cigar City and our very own Amager Bryghus. Whenever the two breweries meet, their main brass will engage in the manly sport of arm wrestling - be it in the brewhouse, in the tap room or in a random bar. All friendly playing around of course, and always with the same outcome: a humiliating defeat for the Tampa boys. Not only will our big man, head brewer Jacob Storm, beat them but so will fellow founder and CEO Morten Lundsbak - and both with right and left hand. Last time we met the Tampa boys, they pulled out saying they didn’t really care much for arm wrestling anymore. Nevertheless this beer was originally brewed and released by Cigar City under the name "Top Roll", apparently the name of a secret arm wrestling technique all employees at Cigar City must now learn to keep their job. All in the faint hope that maybe, just maybe one day one of them will beat an Amager boy. At Amager we shrug, and smile politely and wish them nothing but the best of luck.

4.1 Wow. Endelig en øl med lakrids, der også smager godt. Dejlig fyldig øl, med god sødme og bitterhed.
3.9 As described. On draft. A soft porter. Light cocoa and chocolate. Sweetness. I don't eat licorice maybe that is it as others state. Subdued but well done and well balanced beer
3.4 Ok imperial porter. Niente di veramente spettacolare, ma bella tostata con la liquirizia che si percepisce eccome. Cioccolato, salsa di soia, caramello e un bel finale torrefatto. Manca solo un po' di complessità
4.1 500 ml. with no bottling date. Pours ebony with a sticky disc of foam. Aroma of cocoa, graham cracker, bread, sea salt and a bit of coffee. Tastes of licorice, dark chocolate, bread and caramel. Some fig, soy sauce and black strap molasses in later sips. A hint of cherry in the aftertaste as well. Medium-plus mouthfeel with smooth low-medium fizz. No sign of the abv.
4.0 Tight, beige head stayed on a jet black, lightly carbonated body. Rich aroma of dark fruits, dark berries, malt & demerara. Medium to full body. Creamy texture with a sparkling finish. Cloying on the back. Creamy malt tastes with bitter underripe fruit, over ripe fruit, grape, citrus, coffee, milk & dark sugar. Complex but Tremendous
3.7 Pours dark with light head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is licorice and hops. Taste is chocolate malt with a hint of nutmeg. Finish is all licorice. A very easy sipper.
3.8 Rami Rami is drinking a Game of Arms by Amager Bryghus at Powiśle Lukrecja nieprzegieta, kawa, troche czeko i palonosci, posmaki popiolowe, dosc oleiste cialo, jakies ziemiste nutki. Slodkawe poza posmakami Rami Rami: na cieplej troche wiecej ciemnych owocow i zboza Rami Rami: i jeszcze troche chlebowych nutek sie tez pojawia... fajne to piwo
3.6 500 ml bottle. BB 09/2018. (Uba & Humal) Tallinn, Estonia. Black color with a small light tan head. Roasted malt, licorice and dryness in the aroma. Oily. The flavor is dry roasted malt, licorice, alcohol, oil and dryness. Strong.
3.7 Coffee, some orange and sugar aroma. Pitch black, medium sized brown head. Too sweet, hints of iron, lots of chocolate and forest fruit. Full bodied, creamy, flat. //bottle from Hoppiness
4.4 From Labirratorium. In Teku glass. Playing Green Cat, then Bad End. Notorius, pleasant and not excessive roastyness, with a smooth body that hides the abv really well and maybe light vanilla and licorice notes
3.8 Pretty porter, it has a scala of tastes to offer. The most remarkable one is the note of liquorice, which gives a nice salty aftertaste. I was familiar with sweet, bitter and sour in ales, but salt is a first for me and actually it doesn't dissapoint in a light touch! There are better porters and stouts, but this is a potential grower. It is different for sure.
3.7 Piana średnio obfita, beżowa, szybko opada do chmurki. Barwa ciemno brązowa, prawie czarna. W aromacie czekolada i lukrecja, w tle kawa zbożowa.
3.6 Bottled 500ml (Beergium) My 100th rated Amager beer. Opaque colour, firm beige head, some lace. Cocoa, caramel, some alcohol in the nose. Medium-bodied. Toasted malty, cocoa, sweetness, vanilla, brown sugar. Nice smooth but robust flavour. Feels more Amager than Cigar City.
3.8 Smallish head black pour mild carbonation aromas chocolate vanilla dark fruit licorice the flavours roast malt chocolate cocoa licorice dried fruit raisin currant plum all round rich malty taste the licorice does the job very forward a likeable porter
4.2 Bottle @cgarvie (1st May, the May Day Tasting, rating backlog). Pours black tan head. Nose is raspberries, licorice, chocolate and toffee, taste is the same as the above. Easy drinking, very smooth.
3.7 600ml bottle from El Irlandés. Pours a murky dark brown color with a medium white head that lasts forever. Aromas of dark chocolate, chocolate powder, cocoa, roasted grains, licorice and moccha coffee. Straight-forward, it has somewhat of a chocolate incense quality. Taste is dominated by strong licorice flavor, quite intense especially during the finish. The licorice sticks to the palate long after swallowing the last sip. Additional flavors of dark chocolate and some raw toasted coffee grains. Really straight-forward as well. Heavyweight, it has a nice warming effect. Alcohol is well camouflaged but you end up feeling it if you drink the whole bottle. This is an unambitious, licorice driven Imperial Porter of high quality.
3.9 Bottle. Pours a pitch black beer with a medium sized, brownish head on top. Aroma has dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, toffee and caramel. Flavor is strong on the bitter chocolate side, low on coffee, big on bittersweetnes. Very full bodied and well balanced, lots of stuff going on here. Decent level of carbonation, long bittersweet aftertaste, full with chocolate. Nice one!
3.8 Bottle @ Camping Piantelle, Lago de Garda. Pours very dark brown with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, cocoa, chocolate cake. Flavor is sweet, light bitter, roasted, rich malt, chocolate, cocoa, licorice, little alcohol. Medium body, average to lively carbonation, light bitter finish. Nice, but carbonation is to high. 190717

3.8 Bottle shared at So Good (Rome), thanks. Coffee misty pour, ivory little foam. Nose: licorice, green coffee, cocoa. Mouth: soft carbo, chocolate, mild grassy.
3.9 Bottle from systembolaget Sweden. Big and lasting fluffy brown head. Very dark black and red color. Liqurish isn’t my favorite thing but this liqurish beer has a magnificent aroma. Mild liqurish and roasted malty aroma. The liqurish is more present in the taste with a fine roasted malty taste. Medium body and fine bitterness.
3.7 Bottle, 8.2%. Sweet liquorice aroma. Almost black colour, seems clear with a red shine. Small stable frothy light brown head. The flavour is yeasty with a mildly sweet liquorice note. Hint of paper in the finish. Vinous and jammy sweetness, but quite mild. Yeasty aftertaste.
