3.6 25 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with some sediment and a tiny tan head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, bourbon, and liquorice. Flavour is bourbon, coffee, and roasted malt.
3.7 Bottle. Batch 52. No head Black. Bourbon aromas blended with roasted malts. Sharp alcoholic taste and flavours. Round soft oak finish. A brew for beer lovers of the first degree.
3.6 Bottle at a tasting at Paul’s. Pours a deep black with a hint of a thin brown head. Big sweet roast, a bit of plum and oxidization on the nose. Medium to thick bodied, lots of sweetness and a big hit of booze. Boozy, warm and roasty, lots of chocolate and roast into more booze on the finish, cocoa and a touch of bitterness.
4.0 Bottle shared by Ryan at Paul’s. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of roast chocolate, oak, vanilla, sherry, cherry wood, red wine and coffee. Medium body.
3.3 23rd October 2009 Black stout, frothy tan head. Semi soft and surprisingly light palate. Dry and minerally wood with bitter chocolate. Finishes with rich malt and some hop coming through. Okay but a bit dry and the wood could be sweeter.
3.7 Bottle at Olutrevintola Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Black pour with a light tan head that disappears quickly. Vanilla, chocolate, coffee and whiskey aroma. Vanilla heavy flavour with chocolate and coffee. A slight sharpness and alcohol in the finish.
3.9 Pour opaque black, with a slight lighter hue around the edges, and a very small tan head. Aroma is packed with coffee, chocolate and whiskey. Oak, vanilla, soy sauce, licorice?. smoky and ashy notes as well. The whiskey and oak is present all the way, with hints of tobacco towards the end. Taste is quite sweet, with a burned and slight bitter aftertaste. Medium and oily body, with a semi-flat carbonation. This brew, was the one introduced to me, when i got into craft beer a couple a years ago. Still going strong...
3.8 Loads of character from the barrel, similar to BA gonzo. Aroma and flavor is whisky, oak with vanilla notes, chocolate and coffee. Delicious!
2.9 250mL thanks to anders37. Deep, clear sepia pour with cola highlights. Thinning, tan head. Nose is quite nice: muted bourbon, big umami and medium soy, cinnamon, sweet chocolate. Muted fusel notes. Taste is quite thin, very thin for style, with a hefty dose of ash and dirty earth. Aftertaste is a bit boozy and mouthfeel is so intensely watery that it feels like a mixed drink from a bar like a splash of Kahlua atop a vodka water. Probably the thinnest mouthfeel of any 11% + abv I’ve ever experienced.
4.0 Bottle 25 cl...... Batch nr : 52 bottle # 195... It pours pitch black with a small creamy beige head.... the aroma is roasted malt, vanilla and chocolate....the flavor is coffee, dry, chocolate and some port notes..... medium to full body.... dry, strong coffee finish.....
4.1 In bottle, thanks Craig! A black beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is a little salty with leather, liquorice, caramel, roasty malt and alcohol. Similar flavours with chocolate, caramel, roasty malt and salty liquorice. Mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel.
3.6 Woody, barrely aroma, a little musty, moss booze, wood, alcohol, light vanilla and chocolate. More or less black pour with islands of tan foam. Flavors of basement, bitter roast, a little inky black patent malts acridness. Earthy roasty and woody finish. Light sweetness from the bourbon. Becomes a little fruitier as it opens up and sweetness emerges. A touch hot as well.
4.5 Bottle: Batch #52 Bottle No. 209: Smalland lively brownhead changes into a brown lacing quick and than there is only a black beer left. Smellliquorice, vanilla, roasted mslts and wood hints of dark chocolate and soya Taste is a nicely balanced mix of liquorice, and vanilla than coffee and dark chocolate with a roasty edge. The dark chocolate part is delicious, soft smooth bitter znd a hint of vanilla Nice coffee-bitter liquorice-bitter vanilla roasted malty aftertaste. Low carbo, soft Mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture. This is good stuff!
4.1 25 cl bottle @ Pikkulintu. Rated on 20110729. Pitch black colour with small head. Aroma of lots and lots of vanilla and chocolate, some whiskey-like alcohol too. Flavour of dark roasted malts, lots of vanilla, peat and some dry mocha-like chocolate. Palate is quite bitter but the after taste softens it down nicely. 4425
4.3 RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting @ the Harlequin. Black color, with a small brown head. Roasty malt aroma with lots of coffee, chocolate, some wood, alcoholic whisky notes. Taste is equally pleasing. Thick mouthfeel, full of roasty and bitter tastes, of malt and chocolate, some whisky hints, rather bitter finish. Good stuff.
3.8 25 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Pikkulintu. #1501, batch 52, BBE 20-03-2018 Aroma has lot of vanilla from bourbon. Flavour has somewhat stinging whiskey, but it does not disturb much though. More disturbing is the alcohol that comes trough. Some vanilla and hints of smoke do appear in the taste too. The whiskey dominates a bit too much.
3.8 250 ml bottle @ Olutravintola Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Batch #52, bottle #1029. Pours a pitch black colour with a small, beige, foamy head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, sausage, oak and some dried fruits. Flavour of roasted malts, sweet fruits, vanilla, oak and toffee. Medium bodied with a thin mouthfeel. It takes some time for the oak to kick in. Alcohol is very well hidden. Nice one.
3.7 250ml bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki Bottle #1029, batch 52 Pours pitch black with a nice beige head. Aroma has hints of oak, wood, vanilla and mild coffee. Taste starts out quite dry but finish is great with notes of oak, whisky and vanilla. Could’ve used a bit more body and roastiness. A bit unbalanced. Alcohol is well hidden.
4.2 Black with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and wood. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and bitter finish with burning alcohol. Full bodied. 250511
3.7 Bottle. Very dark brown with tiny brown head. Flavour is roasted malts, liquorice, bitter, chocolate, coffee and notes of alcohol.
4.0 25 cl bottle thanks to Jacob. Batch no 52. Pours a pure black color with a small brown head. The aroma is awesome; very rich dark fruits, some whiskey, smoke, ash, roast. The flavor is a dry bourbon-rich ale, some ash and roasted malts, dark chocolates, bitterness, metal, a bite. Very nice. Smooth almost tart fruits in the finish. Quite dry. Awesome. Give me this in a mug, a fire blazing, and a nice rocking chair and I’m in heaven.
3.8 Re-rated on May 9th: (25 cl bottle #205, batch 52 from Vinhjørnet) Palate could be thicker for the taste, ABV and colour. Re-rated on November 12th: (25 cl bottle #941, batch 52 from Vinhjørnet) Pretty much the same as initial rating. Girlfriend says: "It’s very smoky. It’s too strong for me." Initial rating on April 16th: (25 cl bottle #955, batch 52 from Vinhjørnet) Pours a deep black with light but long-lasting toffee head that laces the glass. Intense aroma of oak, bourbon and toasted malt. Hits the palate as a thick, oily substance, full-bodied with soft carbonation and a long, bitter finish. Taste is dark, toasted, coffee, bitter. Very, very smooth - like drinking a wooden barrel, but well balanced with bitterness.
4.0 Thanks to some Swedes for this tick. Pours very dark reddish brown with a few bubbles of light tan head. Big European stout aroma, with roast, anise, coffee, dark fruits, oak, whiskey, and booze. Excellent. Big dry roasty and licorice flavor with vinous notes lending some tannins, dark chocolate, and espresso. -bal aging is well integrated, with subtle oak and whiskey. Medium-full bodied with some tannins and soft carbonation. Smooth and slick on the palate. Overall very very tasty. Thanks Swedish guys.
4.3 Bottle 250ml at home. Pours black, tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted, oak. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter. Full body, oily, soft carbonation.
3.9 Bottle thanks to Pasoe. Pours a very dark borwn with only the faintest hint of light coming through. Smallish tan coloured head hangs around for a while leaving very faint lacing. Brilliant aromas of vanilla, whiskey, dark stone fruit and some bitter chocolate. Really nice nose. Roasted bitterness comes through more in the flavours Reasonably bitter finish. Very smooth fully mouthfeel. Excellent beer.
4.3 Bottle 250ml (Batch #52 bottle #107) @ home (Courtesy of fonefan) Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of chocolate, coffee, licorice, oak and vanilla. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter and alcohol. Texture is oily and soft carbonation.
4.2 Bottle, 25cl, from trade with Papsoe. It pours a rather small head, only half a finger thick, and brown in color. Oily pour, and a body with a color that is best described as black. When pouring, a quite evident booze aroma escapes the glass, soon to be followed by a strong cocoa and chocolate aroma, hints of vanilla, some tar and cellar and a faint pleasant note of green apples. Some slightly burnt caramel chimes in as well. In the mouth it is oily, warming and full-bodied, and with the appropriate levels of carbonation. The flavor follows up on what started in the aroma, booze, cocoa and chocolate up front, roasted malts, a burnt touch, caramel, hints of vanilla and tar in the back. Long lasting finish that is a tad too boozy, but with the same lovely cocoa and chocolate found at first. A mostly dry beer, even though there’s certainly large amounts of residual sugars, but it feels nicely balanced, and as mentioned it both tastes and smells really good. Why it is discontinued I really don’t understand. 101207
4.0 26-NOV-2010, bottle @home, from "Vinens Verden". Very very dark brown with no head at all even though I try with a violent pour... Lovely whiskey nose with some smoke. Taste is coffee, more like espresso. Very roasted and dry. Barrel aging is obvious, but the high ABV is not. The brew sort of coats the inside of the mouth, but unfortunately it ends a little thin. As it warms it turns a bit more fruity, and even more dense. Really good brew from Amager.
4.1 I thought I’d celebrate beer review #250 with a beer that I’ve been wanting to try for a long time. The pour is of course opaque black, only the least bit of light coming through in the utmost edges and a small bit of quickly disappearing khaki head that makes a good amount of lacing. Right out of the fridge, the aroma is dominated by some very mellow vanilla, oak and whisky notes, lots of muscovado sugar, some sweet sirupy alcohol. As it warms, some oxidative notes are present, giving the beer a delicate sherry-touch. Dried figs, fig puree actually. Just a lot of dark dried fruits, which reminds me a lot of a well-aged Avery The Czar. Some faint coffee and chocolate notes along with some pipe tobacco. The taste is a lot more roasted than the aroma suggests, very bitter espresso, toasted wood, a rather large alcohol burn, obvious whisky barrel aging. Hard roasted malts, might come off a little burned as well. Faint smoke in there as well. Some sweetness in there as well, the muscovado sugar, burned caramel, faint oaky vanilla qualities which is overpowered by the whisky component in the aging. Very very bitter coffee after taste, burned wood as well, some lingering sweetness, hot alcohol. A good imperial stout, but the smell makes me beg for more taste wise. Barrel aging could be more refined as well.
3.9 In short: A very roasted and intense bourbon stout that remains surprisingly drinkable How: Bottle 250ml. Consumed when about 2 years of age (assuming it was only brewed once). Split two-way by and with kramer. Huge mega-thanks Jason!!! The look: Black body topped by a small tan head In long: Nose is extreme-bourbon BA with some higher alcohol notes. The bourbon here is not subtle. Taste is actually smoother and more drinkable than expected considering the nose is a bourbon and booze attack. Creamy black cake, vanilla, bourbon, roast. The beer remains rather roasted and somewhat dry despite its intense bourbon barrel character. A very good beer, almost excellent. This is about average as far as intensely “bourbonized” impy stouts are concnerned. I’d like to be able to buy this locally. But there are many things I really want to get but I cannot get. Amager beers, skinnier, a good alibi.
