Amager / Hoppin' Frog Frog Hops To Amager

English: One day in May 2012, Amager Bryghus had a visit from one of America’s most charismatic brewers: Fred Karm from Hoppin’ Frog in Akron, Ohio. Fred was on tour in Europe and came by to guest brew with us. The result of this pleasant and rewarding day was Frog Hops to Amager. Frog Hops to Amager is a somewhat rare type, namely an Imperial Wheat Stout, brewed with eight different malts, two of which are wheat. And then it would not do for us if it was not hopped strongly so we gave the beer a solid game of Tomahawk and Chinook. You will find an intense and aromatic hopping beer, which is perhaps a little softer and not so heavy as other Imperial Stouts. Hope you can enjoy the results of this transatlantic cooperation!

3.7 dark brown. Aroma apples, dark roasts, woody, licorice, prunes. some orange/spice/corriander aspects. Tastes choco/char. Wheat gets lost. some berries. herbal hops. creamy palate
3.8 Bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of dark grains with a decent amount of roast and a hint of pine and a hint of smoke. Flavor has more of a sweet dark grain note with some growing roast and a hint of bitter chocolate.
3.8 29.06.2015, 0,5l bottle @ home: Nice light brown creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich, dark malts, butterscotch, dark sugar, grass, licorice, coffee, chocolate, hops, pine needles, minerals. Taste is slightly rich and dry, dark malts, hops, burnt grain, pine needles, dark sugar, butterscotch, paper, bark, minerals, grass, coffee. Longlasting bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice.
3.5 Pitch black body with a huge compact mocca head that leaves tons of lacing. Chocolate and coffee is the first thing that hits the nose, followed by roasted malt and dried plums. Flavor is roasted, with a distinct bitterness, burnt coffee liquorice and white pepper. Finishes off a bit too bitter for me.
4.0 500ml bottle batch 810, kindly shared by djoeye. Espresso head resting on top of a jet black body. Spotty lacing down the glass. Inviting aromas of grainy chocolate and coffee, nicely roasted. Well blended taste of black chocolate, nuts, ash, anise, dark wheat and dark fruits. Lingering roasted bitterness to the ending with a deep backdrop of coffee beans. Well integrated alcohol. Full bodied and velvety on the swallow. Much appreciated (Tromsø 20.4.2015).
3.4 Grey head, cocoa-ish body. Aroma; chocolate, prunes, sweet black liquorice, cocoa, hazelnut, roasted almonds. Taste; dark chocolate, black liquorice, bitter jägermeister, a bunch of hops. Tough body. Long roasted finish with bitters, as a war between 8 malts and some big cannons of hops - and maybe hops won the battle at the final end. 50cl.btl,#810,BB05/2017 [WytchbookReleaseRating@Rune’s2015-04-20]
3.5 How: Bottle. Where: Systembolaget. Appearance: Black colour with a beige head. Aroma: Liquorice, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt. Body: Full body, low carbonation. Flavour: Chocolate, liquorice, roasted malt, hops, some peat. A bit bitter finish.
3.5 Bottle bought by me, shared at Robi Rawr Bar .. . dark black .. mild foam .. . rachel has a cute rack .. . sharp tar, coffee and meat black .. . medium feel, finish .. . quite nice .. . . My first after school job was sweeping up hair. I don’t know how that kebab shop stayed open.
3.9 Black colour, beige head. Aroma of hops, roasted malts, light tropical fruits, caramel and coffee. Bitter flavour, malts, roasted malts and coffee. Bitter finish, hops, coffee and malts. (from 66cL bottle @ Camping RateBeers. Thanks for sharing today’s beers, RateBeer crew!)
3.6 Sample. Black with beige head. Roasted malt aroma. Similar taste with some wheat. A pretty good beer.
4.1 On tap at Brass Tap with Audriie, pours a thick black pour with a beautiful Java head. Nose is a beautiful scent of malt , sweet chocolate and coffee. Taste is smooth and velvety, with sweet malt, chocolate and coffee and some mild bitterness. Finish is bitter sweet , long and ends on the same tadting notes. quaff score 8 / 10 🐰🐸
3.8 500 ml bottle purchased at...?? Well, I don’t remember were the hell I bought this. The stout looks like the ink expelled from an octopus. Aroma is light anise, mild coffee and a good amount of roasted malts. Nice. Flavor is pretty good, deeper roasted malts, burnt grain, and spent coffee beans. The body is on the fuller/ chewy type feel. Mildly creamy. The only thing I’m not real keen on is the licorice because I am not a huge fan of that flavor. Other wise I was happy to have picked this up some place in my travels.
3.6 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Looks the goods. Nose all about cloves, bananas and chocolate. Dry cocoa powder in the taste with more cloves, wheat and banana. Really approachable stuff
3.7 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Looks great. The nose shows mild wheat but it’s all about the spice and chocolate banana here. The taste is roasty business with mild spice and clove in front of dark peppery chocolate. Nothing mental but real solid tasty stuff
3.7 Poured from a bottle. Dark brown color, medium off white frothy head. Roasted coffee aroma. Medium body with a bitter roasted malt flavor and a bitter flavor.
4.2 Looks sensational. Inky black and almost completely opaque with a nice frothy 1.5 finger mocha head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, slight vanilla, charred meat and some grass. The taste has treacle, coffee, dark chocolate, charred meat and some interesting resinous hops. Full bodied and creamy smooth. This is really, really good and enhanced by the hops.
4.1 Bottle at home from Hoppin Frog. Pours a deep brown, nearly black with a mocha head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate, graham cracker, some muddled pine from the hops, caramel, and coffee. The taste is dark chocolate and coffee and then dark fruits and some pine hoppiness. Not sweet and the hops make it kind of dry and interesting. Medium to full body, slick, then dry finish.
3.7 Bottle. Pours black, with a small brown head. Nice aroma of roasted malt and licorice. Long and rich taste of burned malt, coffee and licorice, quite a bitter and dry finish. The softness of the wheat is nice. Oily mouthfeel. Bit too much licorice for my taste though.
4.1 Very Nice, big full beer hoppy aroma and taste. Chocolate and coffee. Could use soms more chocolate -- rated with beerbasher/winphone
4.2 This has as much flavor and body as imperial stouts with higher abv. A delicious balance of rich dark cocoa and freshly roasted coffee beans with a perfect balance of bitter and sweet on the finish that is a lot cleaner and less cloying than your average imperial stout. Also has a subtle but complementary hop presence that makes it unique. Doesn’t get much better than this.
3.5 Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Black with beige head. Intense roasted malt aroma with coffee and some salmiak. Medium bodied, medium ccarbonation. Dry with medium to high bittterness.
3.5 pours a brown head with tiny stout bubbles. aromas of chocolate and light coffee. black body. medium thickness and length but pleasant carbonation and slighlty bitter taste of malt and toffee.
3.9 500. Pours jet black with a creamy, sudsy burnt tan head that goes away fairly quickly. Big roasty dry chocolate nose, true dark chocolate--cocoa nibs and a bit of baking chocolate. Coffee in there too. Creamy thick body, soft carb. Roasty dry chocolate mid palate, lots of different subtle dark chocolate notes interplaying, with a dry chalky finish.
3.9 The aroma from roasted malts, quite heavy hops and dark dark chocolate sends out a message. The taste is as expected, but with added "brawl-attitude". Standard stout experience with added wheat, liquorice and a tiny soy sauce feeling. I liked this, it is and Imperial Stout with attitude, and don’t let the label fool you, it looks like a kid soft drink, but it should have been in black with an evil frog on it.
3.5 Pours black with a dark tan head. Nose shows cocoa, chocolate liqueur, sweet bready malt and heavy roast. Some hot booze too. Flavours focus on the heavy roast followed by a strong, hoppy bitterness. Some toasty notes. Nice creamy carbonation.
