Danish: Amager Hr.

English:
In his original form Mr. Frederiksen was a potent, forceful fellow with some sharp edges, he has in this incarnation heavily taken to his female side. The 12 months spent ageing in port wine casks has subdued his temperament and created a different soft and rounded beer, he has however lost none of his virility to which the slight increase in alcohol to 11% will testify.

This beer is the blackest of the black with a creamy light brown head, which leaves the finest lacing around the glass. The effect of the port ageing can be felt most clearly on the nose which is soft and rounded - try sending it round the table in the place of dessert at the next family party. The body is still plump with plenty of roasted malt and notes of dark, bitter chocolate.

Wooden barrels add a rustic and slightly oxidized edge to this beer - just as in the best port wines. In contrast, the 12 months in wood has not done away with Amager’s familiar bitterness, as with the original Mr. Frederiksen flavours come both from the hard roasted malts and a generous addition of hops, the built- alcohol makes your fireplace superfluous, you can warm yourself by the radiant heat of Port aged Mr. Frederiksen alone.

4.0 375ml Bottle: Got in trade from stobbe74; THANKS Soeren! Aroma of malt, chocolate, tannins, light port, light roasting, vanilla, and vinous notes. Poured pitch black in color with a small, loose, fizzy, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Opaque. Sparkling. Flavor is medium to heavily sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, chocolate, roasting, port, vanilla, tannins, and some vinous notes. Medium body. Slick, then chalky and dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Malt, roast, vanilla, tannin, chocolate, slight wood, finish is heavily sweet, slightly bitter, and dry. 11%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
4.0 Skyview V, 11/11/11. Thanks, Bob. Black and thick, with very low carbonation. Some coffee and chocolate. Light, but but good vinous character. This is an excellent beer.
3.8 Pour opaque black, with a dark brown hue, and a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, oatmeal, chocolate, slight caramel, wood, and some port wine to round it all up. Taste is sweet, with some bitter notes as well. Medium body, with a semi-flat carb. This isn’t as roasted and bitter as the ordinary "Hr. Frede", which I like.
3.7 375 ml (Batch 166) bottle @ home (nice touch that the sweet smelling – much sweeter than the beer smells or tastes - cork has an Amager Bryghus stamp on it). Pours black with a reddish hue (a little debris floating around) with a small white head – no lacing to speak of. Aroma is liquorice, port, vinous, slightly boozy with a hint of chocolate and coffee– very little of the original left. Taste is (again) vinous, kinda acidic, tannins with a bitter finish (again not much of the original left). It’s certainly different from the original (which a barrel aged version should be) but it seems like the barrel has taken over and left very little of the original – but luckily what is left is actually quite a good sipper, which is able to hide the ABV very well. As the beer warms it gets significantly better and the chocolate and coffee notes get much more pronounced.
4.0 Pours an opaque black with a tiny beige head. Smells of coffee and toasted malts. Dry with aromas of roasted malts and quite hoppy. Lots of dark chocolate. Some brown sugar and woody notes. Tiny hints of band-aid. Residual sugars towards the end.
4.1 Dark reddish brown with a tiny tan head. Malty with coffee tones. Malt, coffee, fruit, oak and roasted. Full body with a nice, bitter sweet finish.
3.6 My Bottom Line : Roasted malts and coffee beans, wood and grape-like fruitiness lead to more of the same in the finish (roastiness awash in port barrel notes), for a serious but a tad linear Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. Further Personal Perceptions : -A rich head of foam tops the blackness with dark brown edges. -Whispering oats are found underneath it all. -Body is relatively lean for the style. -Alcohol warmth tags along barrel tannins. -This is not your typically rich/heavy dessert sipper of an Imperial Stout, which is quite interesting. -The port barrel tends to reign over the Hr. Frederiksen after a few sips. It’s lots of fun, but not as satisfying as the ’regular’ version. -There isn’t too much alcohol flavor for an 11% brew. -Effervescence, tannins and relative dryness make this easy to approach. Bottle.
4.6 (Bottled, rated 2010-12-14) Almost black with a firm and lasting, light brown head. Intensive aroma with softly licoricey Impy meeting sour-wineous port. Red wine is emphasized in the sour, oaky-tannic flavor. The fine original beer is perhaps even too hidden, but nevertheless this is awesome stuff! A sophisticated and warming beer with no booziness.
3.6 Bottle from Mane Liquor about one year ago. Bringing in the new year and my 900th rating with this beauty. Pours black with a thinning mocha head. Aroma is deep, charred cocoa powder and wood with a touch of vanilla and lots of vinous notes. A touch of tang comes out on the nose as well, resembling lemon and coffee. Vinous notes are immediately present in the taste. Coffee and port tones then take over to be slowly swamped by heavy cocoa powder and a slight sour tang on the finish. Medium mouth feel and quite a bit of heat from the alcohol still. Not bad. Definitely a sipper. Should get quite a bit better with some more age on it
4.4 Bottle @ Home. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, tartness from the oak, nice sweet fruityness of port. Taste dark toasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee notes, raisins and plums, dry oak, port, licorice, slight boozy. Medium to full body, average carbonation, lasting semibitter finish. Very nice and complex brew. 301211
3.8 Pitch black pour with a thin brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, oats and wine. Good flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, oats, port wine, The body is medium with a liquorous texture and moderate carbonation. It’s very good, but I think I prefer the regular version.
3.9 Bottle. Pours jet black with large dense tan coloured head. Big aromas of espresso coffee, roasted grain and some dark slight sour fruits. A little alcohol in the back ground. Flavours are more about the roasted grain, chocolate and espresso. Slightly bitter astringent finish. Lots of alcohol walmth on the finish. Medium to full mouthfeel. Nice beer.
3.9 Thanks to Papsoe for this bottle. The beer poured black and was lightly carbonated with a small brown head. It’s smooth on the tongue with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, raisins & alcohol. It finishes with some warmth.
3.9 37,5cl bottle @Pikkulintu. Poured black with almost no head. Raisins in aroma, also coffee and some alcohol. Flavour is very portwine like, alcohol and dried fruits. Very oily mouthfeel. Excellent long finish with lingering coffee and chocolate that stays long. Very enjoyable in small quantities.
3.8 Skyview V, 11/11/11. Courtesy of Skyview. Black color with no head. Strong roasty aroma with some chocolate. Molasses up front in the flavor. Moderate roasted barley notes.
4.6 Bottle@Gotheburg Porterfestival 19/11-2011: Black colour, with a flat head. Aroma is dominated of Viny, peppery, vanilla, raisins woody, and fruits. Flavor is had peppery/ viny mouthfeeling complexity was interestning, and there was dry fruits, long viny fruity finish. Werry nice IMP Stout!!
4.1 Sample @ Porterfestivalen in Gothenburg on November 19. Pours pitch black with a chocolaty head. Smell is vinous and sweet with figs, portwine and chocolate. Taste is big, sweet and vinous with prunes, figs, very ripe grapes, coffee and alcohol. Finish is dry and bitter with lots of coffee. Really nice! Re-rate! Bottle courtesy of Mrsiblursi. Still holds up very well. A tasty imperial stout filled with coffee, port wine, leather, liquorice and tobacco. Yummy in my tummy....
4.0 Date: November 11, 2011 Mode: Bottle Source: MN Gathering @ Skyview V Hard to follow the Southampton, but this held its own, dark brown pour, alcohol and chocolate, excellent brew.
4.1 Bottle at MN Gathering @ Skyview V. Very dark brown pour with a small off white head. Sharp roasty nose with booze present. Medium slick palate. Taste is rich roasty chocolate and again the booze is there. Really good.
3.7 thanks to bob for sharing. Dark color. The aroma is simply amazing. Huge port aroma. Very sweet with a delicate sugar character (almost like hard candy). The body sadly didnt’ live up to the aroma. Dry, faint chocolate and roasted malts with a hint of sweetness on the finish.
4.2 Bottle: Batch 166: Medium to smaller brown head on top of a pitch black beer. The brown foamy head changes into a thicker brown lacing, pretty quick. Smell chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocollate, hint of port/wine-ish like, hint of coffee, hint of alcohol and white grapes. Taste roasted malts, dark chocolate, roasted barleys, toffee, spices, coffee, light hint of liquorice, hint of alcohol/warmth, nice bitterness, roasted grains but not too roasty in taste.  Good but not too firm bitter chocolate wine ish warm aftertaste. Low carbo, soft light tingly mouthfeel, full body and a (light) creamy texture.
4.1 Black/ruby pour, very small beige head. Vinious aromas, light wood, sweet/biiter roasted malts. Acidity is very prevalent, adds a nice balance to the roasted malts and coffee. Prefect carband light mouthfeel with a distinct vinious acidic finish. Really nice stuff.
4.1 At a tasting, many thanks DSG, pours opaque black with a giant mocha color head, aroma of hops, coffee, oranges, brandy, vanilla and wood, flavor is smoked, burnt wood, wood, cherry, coffee and orange, full body, great
3.8 Bottle shared at a tasting. Black with a light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, some fruity notes and some alcoholic liqueur notes. Sweet roasty flavor with dark chocolate, some port notes, a bit of woody hints and a slightly drier finish with some alcohol. Full-bodied. A nice Imperial Stout.
4.0 Sample @ Gothenburg Beerfest 2011. 2-9-2011 Noire, col moka.
4.1 Sampled at Gothenburg Beer Festival 2011. September 2, 2011 Pours black with a minimal ring of brown foam. Strong rich, round aromas of wine, berries, plums, chocolate and warming alcohol. Plums and stone fruits in the taste with a big port wine character. Chocolate as well as oak barrels are present in the taste. A big, flavourful and super tasty imperial stout!
4.1 Bottle, sample. Black with a minimal light brown ring around the glass. Aroma: chocolate, red berries, port, wood. Taste: chocolate liqueur, licorice, vinous, berries, quite dry and a bit acidic. Full-bodied, smooth. I’m really fond of the original, and while I think this is nice, the port aging doesn’t improve the beer.
4.0 Bottle, shared with Palme and the Bergen Tasting Crew. The last tick of the Frederiksen series; this time on port wine barrels. Black body, small caramel head. Nose is port, wood, dark fruits, barley wine-style caramel and hints of alcohol. Nice. Taste is bitter wooden tones, chocolate, coffee, port wine and dark malty caramel notes. Smoothly carbonated, oily and yet highly drinkable; this is where a stout meets barley wine. A fine creation from Amager, and IMO the best of the series.
4.1 0.375l bottle from Ølbutikken shared with ClubGonzo and the rest of Bergen Tasting Crew. This one pours a near black body with a small creamy and bubbly head. Aroma is sweet, like caramel - almost barley wine -sweet with notes of wood, dark berries and some nice alcohol hints. It has average to soft carbonation, a tingling oily mouthfeel and it’s quite warming and full-bodied. Flavors are light vinious with lots of roasted malts. There’s also chocolate, wood and some mild acidic fruits, black currants perhaps? in the finish, and it’s mildly bitter. A really warming and almost heart burning aftertaste. A really nice beer!
