Amager Imperial Stout

Amager Imperial Stout

English:
It is hardly a secret that we at the Amager Brewery have a deep rooted love for Imperial Stouts - the noblest of all beers. In fact, we are constantly in the process of developing new variations of this fine beverage, this variation has eight malts and three hops. We are particularly proud to present what we feel is the king of hops: Zeus.

Amager Imperial Stout is a beer as black as mortal sin , crowned with the densest and most creamy light brown head. The coffee and chocolate accents are very distinct, but they come exclusively from the malt, while the aroma is rich with vanilla.

Amager Imperial Stout is in all respects a fierce beer for the more demanding and experienced beer drinkers who are not afraid to challenge their senses.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, wheat malt, oats, brown sugar, hops and yeast

3.9 Bottle from Bierkompass! Pours deep black with flat, creaky browmish head. Smells strong malty with lots of coffee, chocolate and some alcohol. Starts with massive coffee’ish roasted malts, caramel, chocolate and bitter burnt malts. Middle part is malty roaaty, with lots of bitter coffee and sweetish chocolate. Goes into a coffee-malty finish with sweet chocolate and lots of roasted malts.
3.7 Bottle shared by Tmoney99 (6/2011, notes). Pours dark brown to black with a purple sheen and a small beige head. The aroma has some sweetness, dark malts, chocolate, light roast and dark fruit. The flavor has roasted malt, dark fruits, some acidity, chocolate. This is decent enough, but doesn’t quite carry the body of American style Imperial stouts.
3.7 500 ml bottle. Pours a thick pitch black color with a small foamy head that fades normally to a ring. Rich, roasty vanilla aroma with some chocolate, licorice, caramel, and milk. Taste has a very light chocolaty sweetness up front but quickly countered by a strong bitter roasted coffee taste. Pretty intensely bitter beer with lots of dark roast and vanilla. Finish brings out some light licorice and caramel too. Thick body with a very creamy and chewy mouthfeel. Overall, I’d like some sweetness or something else to counter the very intense bitterness. But it’s still pretty enjoyable with a really nice aroma.
3.6 6/07/2011: Amager Imperial Stout... Aroma: Milky Dutch cocoa. Appearance: Beer is near black in color and has a brown head. Flavor: Slight meatiness that quickly disappears; milk and dark chocolate blend; heavy dark fruits with some balancing acidity. Palate: Body is medium-full; smooth, milky texture. Overall: Very drinkable and very sessionable, but would like more depth and complexity. 1 pt. 0.9 fl. oz. bottle (10% ALC/VOL) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #296 for this beer.
4.2 50 cl bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a nice tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, vanilla, dark fruit, chocolate. The palate is a pleasant creamy medium body with low carbonation and with a long and slightly bitter finish. Flavor matches aroma with some added sweetness and a hint of peat. Very drinkable and ABV is well hidden.
3.3 too bitter, too bitter, too bitter, too bitter, too hoppy too hoppy too hoppy, really strong imperial stout!
4.3 Very dark colour, with little head. Taste has hints of coffee and chocolate, very nice taste, very nice beer ocerall.
3.8 50 cl bottle. Originally rated on 20101016. Pours black color with a small off-white head. Aroma of licorice, caramel, some roasted malts, chocolate notes and mild coffee. Flavor of roasted malts, caramel, licorice, cocoa powder and tar. Nice.
3.9 50 cl bottle @ Olutkellari Helsinki. Rated on 31.08.2010 Aroma has coffee, roasted malt, some licorice and syrupy notes. Flavour has well roasted malt, coffee, syrupy notes, slightly salty licorice and hints of ash. Good.
4.2 Bottle from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours a deep brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is rich and heavy, syrupy with a slight hint of vanilla, as well as some notes of smoke, chocolate and coffee. Surprisingly medium body, syrupy mouthfeel. Finish is a bit unexpected, but good. Smoky and oaky, slight bitterness, long and acerbic. Really a lovely beer.
4.1 Pours black with a tan soapy head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, anise, and licorice. Creamy mouthfeel with vanilla, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and slight hop bit flavor. Really nice beer!
4.4 Bottle I got from my girlfriend for Christmas. Thanks! Pours dark brown to black with nice tan head. Aroma is wood, hops, roasty, nuts, licorice. Flavor is roasty, hoppy, malty, spicy, a bit alcoholic and with a hint of fresh milk. Very nice slightly bitter aftertaste.
4.1 Pours a deep black with a nice tan head. Strong anise aromas coming out from this one, along with some figs and coffee. First sip reveals a twisted bitter concoction of burnt sugar, molasses, dark fruit, coffee, chocolate and roast. Slight hop bite. Thick mouthfeel. Dry finish. I really like these European imperial stouts much more than the American versions. These tend to be dry and bitter from the malts, instead of sugary and bitter from the hops. This is a good beer on all accounts.
3.9 On draft at Capone’s in Philadelphia. The beer is black with a dense half inch of beige cap. The aroma brings dark chocolates, roast, coffee. Smells great. Really smooth and full of flavor. Wonderful coffee melds with gourmet chocolates. Sweetness is minimal, and the beer has a gentle, bitter finish. Alcohol content is an afterthought. Overall, this was outstanding. 4.1 Bottle, 15cl, at BAJT porter week 2012. Black with a creamy brown head. Aroma: roasted, cream, toffee, chocolate. Taste: chocolate, licorice, cream, some fruit, roasted. Quite full bodied, creamy. Very nice.
4.1 from Erzbierschof - black beer under a long lasting dark beige foam; the hops succeed to dominate the roasted malts leaving notes of blackcurrant, licorice and black cherries; full-bodied and rounded; moderately carbonated; gently sticky and solidly bitter; pretty dry and long hoppy and roasted malty finish with hints of chocolate, earth, tar and black cherries - the alcohol is pretty well-hidden
4.2 Black with a big brown head. Aroma of chocolate malts. Taste is very hoppy, with chocolate and coffee, medium bitterness, medium body. Long hoppy finish. Pretty unusual and good.
3.8 50 cl bottle @ home. Pours black with some sediment and a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, hops, vanilla, and liquorice. Flavour is coffee, chocolate, and hops. ABV is pretty well hidden.
3.7 Pours almost black, with a slight tan head. Aroma of licorice, vanilla, chocolate, and malts. Taste is complex and good, notes of coffee, chocolate, hops, and malt. A very strong Imperial stout. Thumbs up for sure.
4.1 Bottle. Head is small, brown and compact. The beer is almost black. Aroma is great: vanilla, chocolate and hops (a bit fruity). Taste is bitter coffee with noticeable hops. Soft carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Finish is dry, sharp bitterness, warming. Different imperial stout or, at the very least, not what I expected. Very hoppy and bitter. The aroma had me fooled at first. A bit too dry a finish for me. Still, I definitely enjoyed this beer. Thanks for the recommendation BoBo!
3.6 Bottle. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that disapated with some lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit and some alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a rich smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet chocolate flavor with a medium sweet smooth finish of moderate duration. Was this to be a victory beer or to drown my sorrows? That was in doubt to the last second of the game. Drown my sorrows it did.
4.2 Pours black with very small beige head. Smells sweet and well roasted. The taste is rich and has depth even with a strong roasted grain. There is a soft fruit under the grain, sort of a cherry like sweetness. Nice smooth chocolaty taste with the -almost near burnt but not- grain leaves a slightly dry rich grainy taste with a slight boozy warmth. Very tasty, and well worth trying.
3.3 Black, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, caramel, candy sugar and sweets. Bitter flavour, roasted malts and some caramel. Finish roasted malts and mocha. (From 66cL bottle @ RBBSG II, Wilrijk. Thanks to who brought this!)
3.3 11/VIII/2012 50cl bottle @ RBBSG - BB: VI/13 - batch 150 (2012-922) Thanks to secretsanta for sharing the bottle! Very dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige to brown head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: mocha, coffee, sweet touch, brown sugar, caramel, somewhat spicy. MF: quite some carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of mocha, coffee, very bitter hops, bit of caramel, sugary. Aftertaste: bitter hops, lots of coffee, pretty bitter. Not my style of stout, but ok.
3.5 Left-over from RBBSG 2012 // 50 cl. bottle sampled // thx to whoever brought this // dark brown with a mocha head // taste is this serious roast, going to peated, some milk chocolate sweetness underneath, lingering ashy, peated finish, burned flavours. grounded coffee beans. deff more than usual bitter hops in the back // oddly light bit thin despite the too roasted, too peated flavours for me // not crazy about this one, not terrible really but not really my thing either
3.6 Bottle sample @ 2nd RBBSG, August 11th 2012.
2.8 The aroma is burnt and toasted with coffee and chocolate as well as cardboard and grass. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The taste is like the aroma but slightly medicinal. The palate is thin for the style. Overall I expected more from this one.
4.0 500ml bottle courtesy of summer secret santa 2012. thanks, mike! pours a rich, silky, black capped by a thick, rocky, dark kahki head that leaves oily sheets of lace. aroma is great with heavy belgian chocolate, roasted coffee, malted milk balls, and vanilla backed by earthy hops, brown sugar, and dusty oats. flavor is delicious as well with rich, smooth roasted malts, fresh coffee beans, dark chocolate, and twix bars backed by vanilla pudding, grassy hops, belgian yeast, and a hint of rye on the back end. palate is smooth and medium bodied with fine carbonation and a dry, very bitter, roasted, chocolatey finish. overall, a damn fine imperial stout.
4.2 Black with just a bit of tan head. Malty aroma of raisins and vanilla. Rich chewy palate with notes of tobacco, leather, kola nut and toffee. Strong kick but not overwhelming. Fresh hoppy finish coats under the tongue. .
4.6 Oh man, this is good. Poured a touch cold, with a smallish tan head that soon settles to a few foamy islands and a rign wiht plenty of lace. Color in even the narrow part of the glass is an absolutely opaque, pitch brown black. Aroma is roast, malt, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, and heady. Flavor’s like nose, a rich blend of a balanced sweet, bitter and slight tang. Body is full, a little soft, but not too, and for such a big beer, easy driiniking. Finish is like flavor, sweet giving way to bitter, long, and very satisfying. Alcohol is fairly hidden. Really good beer.
