3.8 500 ml bottle Dredging this up on a cold winter's day give me plenty of time to enjoy a solid imperial stout which has aged reasonably well. It shows signs of slipping around the edges but the heart and intensity are still there. I wouldn't spring for another bottle given my budget and the general price of Mikkeller's beers but it was a great treat. Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base is typical of a thick imperial stout. Rich cocoa head accents the sticky core. Chocolate, coffee, anise, raspberries, and dark fruits pour on the depth. All of it is underlined by a sweet malty backbone. Flavor / Palate - The fluid body warms the tongue mere seconds after the first sip. This booziness carries with it anise, cocoa, raspberries, warm coffee, and toast with burnt edges. An earthy finish takes the edge off the alcoholic burn but this is not subtle. I'll have to revisit the Black Hole beers to see how they compare but this feels just shy of that tier.
2.4 Draught at OMBF, September 2017. Lots of sharp roast, heavy sweetness, tart coffee, smooth oatmeal, very malty. A ceremony of opposites that just don't stick together. I'll be against the grain on this one, a beer that makes a haphazard, randomly composed impression.
4.3 Hop and Hound, Bothell. Very cool treat to find on a random weekday afternoon. Deep brown-black pour with a thin and lacing tan ring. Deep roast and nutty aroma. Sip is so European, lovely old world character. Fantastic dry and bitter body. Big, robust and so dry. Not much like this in the states. Really doesn’t have the feeling of a 10.7% stout, which is a compliment. Dark chocolate and espresso bean. This is special.
4.0 (500ml bottle from Mikkeller Webshop) Pours black with a small, fine and stable dark tan head and lots of lace. Aroma of caramel, acidic roasted malt, moderate coffee that's a little earthy but kind of bright and fruity, toasted nuts, hints of chocolate. Flavour has a little more depth but is still dominated by kind of bright, fruity caramel notes, coffee is lightly earthy, quite fruity as well, and moderately toasty. The back end is drier and roastier though not to the degree of the Amager component, with notes of spent coffee, cacao, earth, black pepper and ash. A bit on the light side of medium bodied, with slightly above average carb, light alcohol. A bit of a puzzle, this feels less rich than either of the components to the blend, especially Brunch. It's quite solid, but I'd take a Brunch any day.
3.4 500ml bottle .. dark .. medium foam .. ash, burnt dark chocolate from under a truck, light metal roast, twisted burnt toast .. mouth is medium grade, mildly bitter .. pretty good, hides the abv very well, my bottle was at least 2 years aged, did well but i am sure fresh is way better .. . . betta talk to em!
3.7 50 cl. bottle at Amager Bryghus. Low but lasting creamy light brown head. Pitch black body. Cocoa coffee aroma with notes of the alcohol. Sweet and creamy roasted malt cocoa coffee caramel flavor with little hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long sweet finish. Very pleasant full bodied with a nice mouthfeel, well balanced with an alcohol level that is nicely disguised.
3.6 from tap; black with brownish head; aroma is roasted malts and phenolic spicy boozy; taste is black malts, molasses and chocolate, herbal and citric hops with medium bitterness
3.8 On tap at CBC. Poured a black color with a brown head. Coffee, roast, burnt malts, and chocolate.
4.2 Tap at CBFZ 2017, served way too cold... Pours black with a beige foam. Aroma is booze, coffee, liquorice, chocolate. Body is heavy and sweet, strong roasted malts, bitter and intense with coffee and liquorice flavours. Far away from the milk/chocolate/sugar side. Lingering roast palate. Very good.
3.0 OMBF. Jedno z największych rozczarowań. Aromat trochę jak w bałtykach - owoce i pumpernikiel, trochę męczący i rozczarowujący. Dużo melasy w ustach, jest też kawa i czeko, ale trochę wodniste jak dla mnie. Brakuje goryczki ktora by tę słodycz skontrowała. Nie podeszło.
3.6 One More Beer Festival 2017. Aromat silnie słodowy: melasa, pumpernikiel, kawa, gorzka czekolada. W smaku pełne i gęste. Kawa nieco ziarnista, melasa, karmel, czekolada i nuty palone.
3.9 Draught @ One More Beer Festival. thick, oily, roasty, full body, vanilla, good carbonation.
3.8 OMB kran. Bardzo smaczne, kompleksowe piwo, pełnia ciała, aksamitna tekstura, kawa, czekolada, słody palone, na minus melasowa słodycz, typowa dla stoutów od Amagera. Dobre
3.4 Słody zbożowe, kawa, dosyć palone, gorzka czeklada, profil lekko jak w porterach bałtyckich. Jedynie co to ciało ok. Do mnie nie przemawia.
4.0 Rami Rami is drinking a Hr. Frederiksen Væsel Brunch by Amager Bryghus at Chmielarnia Marszalkowska Bardzo bardzo kawowe, ciut zbozowe, ciut palone, ciut alko, ciut czeko, ale tak to kawa kawa kawa (owocowa), kwaskowate posmaki, najs cialo
4.3 Draught at Amager Bryghus. Pitch black with a thin, tanned head. Sweet, roasted aroma with dark malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel malts, roasted notes. Taste is bitter-roasted. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes lasting dry and roasted bitter with dark malts and coffee. Gorgeous Stout.
4.1 2013 bottle shared by marcus. Pours black with slight brown head. Taste is mellowed nicely. Nice roasted malts and coffee.
4.2 Pours an opaque dark brown color with khaki colored head. Cocoa, roasted malts, earthy, and bread on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes with bittersweet cocoa and roast.
4.2 On tap @Crossfire, maybe a bit too cold. Got better when warming up a bit. Deep black small beige head. Nose is roasted malt. Taste malt, dark chocolate coffee, alcohol. Short bitter finish. Wonderful
4.0 500ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, small to average, thick & dense, creamy, fairly lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Chocolately, slightly roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of milk chocolate and dark chocolate, mocha, coffee, some treacle, a touch of peat, smoke and bitumen. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty, slightly chocolately, minimally nutty, notes of coffee, treacle, a touch of toffee; full body, slightly alcoholic finish. Not as harmonious and balanced as the Bourbon BA version.
3.9 Sampled from 0.5 l bottle. Pitch black with a beige layer. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, some hazelnut and a touch of vanilla. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice and some hazelnut, followed by a short, slightly bitter, a little roasty finish. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation Very nice!
3.0 Intensiv malzig-kaffeeartiger Antrunk. Schokoladig, recht trocken, wenig herb, Röstnoten, eher geringe Süße. Mittellanger Nachhall. Gut. 10/10/9/9/10/10
4.5 Coffee and chocolate aroma. Taste bitter coffee, dark chocolate, high alcohol, sweet finish. One year over time. Great evolution.
3.9 Pours dark brown, bit of beige foam. Aroma has coffee, chocolate and roast. Taste is coming from powerful milk chocolate, bit if booze, prickly roast and dark plums. Very juicy actually. Some ashy roast in the finish.
4.0 Tap and bottle rating. Full bodied, rich, oily. Never really kicks me in the dick like a world class imp does, but still a wholly satisfying blend of two top class beerus.
4.3 3 year aged bottle shared. Thanks Juan! Huge chocolate syrup nose with coffee, bakers chocolate, dark fruit and cherry all present. Insanely complex on the palate with the chocolate just dominating. The booze is there, but not overly so. Nutella on the finish with lots more chocolate. Sweet with some dryness on the finish. Wonderful and enjoyable stuff.
3.7 Pours a dark brown with a thin beige rim that leaves low lacing. Nose is of coffee, chocolate, smoke and something fresh that I associate with camphor (maybe it is the alcohol?). Taste is of coffee, chocolate, grapes, ash and a lot of booze. Hefty. Body is full and carbonation is low. Just too hot for me. A bit hard to drink and rough. Good but not great.
4.2 bottle shared by tom10101, thanks for this bro! pours unclear medium dark brown with a small light beige cap, reviving and leaving some lacing. tons of chocolatey hazelnuts, smoky raisins, resinous citrus, fruity berries, hint of smoke, integrated and never vegetal coffee, dense burnt caramel, clean english yeast, salt. moderate carbonation, medium body - oily; warming spicy-woodsy lightly smoky finish. solid coffee stout blend - lots of purple matter, fruit and roastiness.
3.8 Bottle (500 ml) shared tasting. Pitch black with a medium beige head, good retention, leaving some lacing. Aroma is of strong coffee, a bit vegetal, bitter chocolate, a bit of ashes and smoke, herbal hops and roast. Taste is sweet with rather strong coffee, vegetal notes, ashes, bitter chocolate, roasted malts and low bitterness. Medium to full body. Medium carbonation. A bit oily. Roasty finish. A bit of ashes in the aftertaste. Good but not great. Lack a bit of both balance and depth.
4.0 Pours black into a tulip. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Milk chocolate and espresso aromas. Thick with dark chocolate, marshmallow and hot espresso front to back. Lasting warm mocha burn.
