3.3Small bottle courtesy of tkrjukoff. Cheers, Timo! Pours a hazy brown-orange with a white head. Nose is big toffee, some oxidation, and some dates, and some booze. Flavor follows: toffee, cardboard, prunes and dates, and some mild booze. Medium in body and a nice barleywine overall.
3.3Pours a murky brown with a thin white head. Aroma of pepper, heavy malt, some off flavor. Taste is the same. Kinda weird.
4.1Bottle during the Semi-Final Tasting at my place, London. Thanks to Paul. Pours hazy amber with a thick, off-white head. Great nose of ripe fruits, cake, some floral pine, caramel, faint leather. Big sweet flavor with toasty malts, toffee, some ripe and lightly tangy fruits, mild earth, some pine and grass. Full bodied with average, creamy carbonation. Decently warming in the finish, with toasty sugar, caramel and toffee, light alcohol, some sticky pine, and bread. There’s still some hop kick in here, which gives it some nice edge. A great barley wine overall. The sugary character is well balanced at this point.
3.9Bottle from trade. It pours cloudy deep red-brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is sweet berry, raisin, cherry, strawberry, brown sugar, grape, jam, spice and booze. The taste is raisin, fig, grape, solid bitterness, pine, resin, brown sugar, jam, spice, chocolate, caramel and burnt toast, with a dry, warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and thankfully not too sticky. A tasty, jammy barleywine.
4.0Bottle @ the Semi-Final Tasting. Cheers to whoever brought this along. Cherry red color with a medium head. The nose is spicy cherry jam and pepper, hints of cola and nuts. The taste is spicy orchard fruits, some hot hops and soured wood. Tequila, salt and basil leaf. Full body, but very soft and supple. Nice. Thought-provoking.
3.725 cl bottle @ Panimoravintola Beer Hunter’s. BBE 15.09.2010.

3.825 cl bottle @ Panimoravintola Beer Hunter’s, BBE 15.09.2010
Aroma is sweet with rather ripe fruits, plums and hints of vanilla. Flavour has ripe fruits, some slightly harsh malt, plums, apricot and raisins. Some slightly stinging alcohol in the finish. Good; better without træ, I’d say.
4.2Bottle: Thanks to Joes:
A nice medium light tan colored head, which changes quick into a half open thin lacing on top of a ruby ish colored beer.
Smell is a very nice mix of sweet barley malts, vinous notes, some light manure/sour/farm kind of smell, sweet alcohol, honey, roasted nuts, something fat buttery, hint of earth and lots of caramel.
Taste is a wonderfull mix of butter, molasses, nuts, grass, barley malts, warmth, spices, earth, a slight hint of something liquorice a like, touch of honey, lightly sweeter barleys, more bitter than it’s brother but equally dry, some autumnal herbs, more vinous notes than it’s barrel aged brother (brother has none actually).
Aftertaste is a warm mix of grass, herbs, barley malts and spices.
Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture.
The smell maybe a tiny bit better, though the taste is absolutely bot bad either.
Difficult to choose a favorite, one has better aroma’s, other has better
flavours, one has better mouthfeel, other has better sour notes. Both are equally lovely! Lovely beers! Ok the barrel aged version is just a bit better...
3.0Pours a clear and dark copper beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, caramel, fruit, yeast, sweetness and alcohol. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness with alcoholwarmth. Overall an average beer.
3.4Pours copper with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, alcohol, raisin and light plum. Flavour is caramel, alcohol, raisin, plum and light citrus.
4.5A bottle at Mikkeller Bar. The aroma is wild. Smells of dried porcini and wood. Taste is similar in the sense of earthy and full bodied. Qut e different but in a great way. Such a cool beer.
2.6250 ml bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours dark reddish brown with a small creamy white head that leaves some trace on the glass while slowly dissipating. Smell is very sweet, tiny sour and malty with sweet fruits, almond paste, glue and alcohol. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, tiny tart and fruity with over-ripe plums, glue and clear notes of oxidation. Mouthfeel is sticky sweet and slightly tart. Finish is slightly sweet, slightly bitter and slightly tart. Dominated by a weird chemical smell and flavour which made it slightly nasty. Sadly also too old and oxidized.
2.7(Bottle) Pours dark brown with a nougat colored head. The aroma holds glue, almonds paste, caramel, grainy bread, honey, dried fruits, canned fruits, light cookies, old resinous/citric/lemony/cat pee-like hops. Lots of oxidation n the nose. The flavour light sweet, medium bitter and light acidic. Fat but simple malt profile alongside aggressive citric/resinous hops and dirty oxidation. The mouthfeel is round yet tart with a light carbonation. Lingering heavily afterbitterness. Medium bodied.
3.5bottle, via trade with papsoe, pours amber orange with no head, cheese, caramel and whiskey aroma with charred , cherries and caramel flavor
4.3Nose is oat, heavy roasted malt, chocolate, wood chip, alcohol, iron, feel is mediumbroad, carb is mediumlow, taste is broad roasted malt, chalk, chocolate, medium alcohol, great balanced bitter hops bite, woody finish
3.8Bottle 25cl from Papsoe thanks a lot, a cloudy dark brown beer with small head, a bit old bottle. Nose is on caramel malt and cherry oak. Aroma is fruity on cherry and vanilla quite creamy, good malty body on toasted, caramel and bitter chocolate notes, huge complexity, spice like ginger bread. A very pleasant beer, complex, intense, fruity and creamy, a very good one !
3.925 cl bottle. Deep brown with clingy beige frosting. Nose is red berries, caramel and wet wood. Syrupy with a lively buzz finishing resiny; not expected. After almost a year this still packs a hoppy punch. Taste is caramel, pine, grapefruit, cheese and alcohol.
4.1Bottle from Ølbutikken
Deep red, thick tanned head. Look is just fantastic. Aroma is full of dense fruits. Plenty og prunes, raisins, cherries, port and roasted malts. Full bodied, lots of sweetness accompanied with some very nice acid tones that continues the port comparability. Nice fruity tones. Feel is oily, and you can also feel the alcohol. Finish has a nice hoppy bitterness. It really bites back at you. Very nice barley wine
3.5Bottle @ home, courtesy of camons. Thanks! Dark burgundy appearance with a tan brown head. Slightly boozy, sweet red fruity, pretty malty nose. Sweet, dull caramel/toffee malty flavor, a little woody, lightly fruity flavor ghats a little boozy. Kind of a barrel aged, woody aftertaste that’s slightly floral. Thanks again, René!
3.5BB 15/9 2010. Unclear brown with an off-white head. Aroma is quite sweet malty, dried fruit, woody and moderate hoppy. Flavor is quite sweet and very bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. 250511

3.8(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 2010-09-15, from Ølbutikken, 20110510) The beer poured reddish brown and hazy. Its head was medium sized, very light brown and a little bit fizzy. Aroma had raisin, dried plum, sweetness, malts and alcohol. Palate was full bodied, warming and very dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, raisin, pine resin, a little bit of sweetness, dried plum and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. I was surprised how well the hops were present even though the beer was already by its best by date. Nice hoppy barley wine with pleasant aging characteristics.
3.7Caramel teak-rubber wood aroma. Small head with medium body. Strong malte taste. Not much hop bitterness more sweetness. Tasty strong and it feels strong beer.
4.0Bottle at Mikkeller Bar. Dark amber with creamy head. Hoppy aroma with plenty of fruit, strawberries? Sweet taste with more fruit that kind of covers a malty caramel color, with spices. Full body, and both the aroma and taste sticks for a long time. Great beer!
