Amager / Prairie Tulsa Twister

Amager / Prairie Tulsa Twister

English: Hopefully we don’t insult anybody by claiming that Oklahoma was quite a beer wasteland until just recently. Then, along came the brothers Healey, Colin and Chase, with guts, stamina and an awful lot of talent. And well, the rest is history…
Prairie - originally a gypsy operation - soon became one of the most buzzed about craft breweries, not only in Oklahoma, not only in the US, but in the world. So when these dudes were invited to the Copenhagen Beer Celebration it was only natural for us to invite them to Amager also. And naturally the style chosen for our collaboration had to be a Farmhouse Saison, a style that Prairie has very much excelled at brewing.
One of the Amager crew is still terribly ashamed of sleeping through a tornado warning at a motel room somewhere in Oklahoma years ago, so out of respect for the powers from above we named the beer "Tulsa Twister".
As loud and frightening as a twister is, as cool and laid back are the dudes from Prairie. We had a great day of brewing and friendship - we hope it shows in the beer.

3.8 500ml bottle. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a one finger off-white cap. In the nose grapefruit, resinous notes, orange peel, assorted fruit forward esters, hard water notes, and Belgian tripel-like notes. Taste wise, bitter with a faint sour note, grapefruit, papaya, passion fruit, and light graphite that heads into more mineral heavy notes with lots of tropical fruit undertones, Belgian yeast, and mineral bitterness in the finish. I like it. Solid North American leaning saison!
3.6 Supreme yeast based flavour with a nice floral, musty and woody ester base. Hazy bright copper pour with a steady carbonation stream. Citrus and grassy dry hop notes, mild bitterness, woody and floral with a bit of pineapple somewhere behind; maybe Brett.... Subtle and complex yet very delicate. Doesn't quite seem like its finished and could be much better.
3.4 50cl bottle from AbeerVinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours hazy gold with fine white foam. Aroma is spiced and orange peel, but also fruity. Quite pleasant. Body is somehow light with medium carbonation. Taste is moderate in sweetness, marked in bitterness (or it's the spices), with a bit of sour. Finish is relatively long and spiced.
3.8 [9434-20170714] 500mL bottle. Floral citrus yeast aroma. Hazy, orange body with a huge medium-lasting foamy white head and some light lacing. Light orange wood flavour has a light floral yeast base. Medium body is a tad bitter. Good, a nice subtle balance of bitterness and yeastiness. (7/4/8/4/15) 3.8
4.0 from Erzbierschof - hazy golden-yellow with a good head retention; estery and gently spicy aroma with fair notes of citrus; full-bodied, tasty and lively palate; fresh, light grainy and more spicy fruity finish with a lingering tartness
4.2 500 ml bottle. Bought in Beervana in Santiago, Chile. Really foggy yellow color, large white head. Citric smell, spicy, good. Good taste, hits after a while. Pepper and almonds in it, but a little citric in the end. Solid beer. GOOD.
4.0 Piwo koloru słomkowego, lekko zmętnione, z puszystą białą pianą. W aromacie kwiatowe, przyprawowe, brzoskwiniowe, delikatnie melonowe.
3.6 (Bottle) Golden yellow colour, hazy, with big frothy white head. Fruity, spicy nose with lemon peel, passion-fruit, white bread, herbs and spices. Fruity, hoppy, spicy taste with notes of white bread, lemon peel, passion-fruit, wheat, elderflower and a balanced spicy bitterness in a finish with a touch of alcohol. Medium body, quite dry. Fresh, spicy and quite a hoppy saison. Nice one.
3.6 2017-07-14. Hazy dark yellow body nice beige head fades a bit. 3+ Aroma of grapefruit, lemon rind, lightly musky undertones. Flavour is moderately bitter throughout, lemon, musky grapefruit, lightly astringent in the finish. Average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. 3+ Decent. 7/3/7/3/15-16 Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto.
3.7 A light yellow beer, a head is big andblond. Aroma has strong citrus with a tropical notes, pepper, some sourness. Taste has citrus, some tropical fruitness, also bitterness and spicyness, balanced sourness is refreshning. Medium bodied, high carbonation as expected. Refreshning, more complexicity to traditional gives the tropical notes and stronger sourness.
3.9 Hazy yellow color, white head. Nose is fresh citrus fruit, orange, something sweet, pale malt. Very fresh smell, taste continues along those lines. Citrus first and foremost with a noticeable but fairly low amount of bitterness, medium carbonation. Really nice taste and palate, although maybe a bit short. Makes you want to take another sip, extremely drinkable.
4.0 [Bottle (500ml) shared w/ HogTownHarry & GregClow] Pours a murky gold with a large lasting frothy white head. Aroma is quite yeasty, fruity and herbal along with some hops, Flavour’s quite nice: yeasty, hoppy and herbal. Alcohol’s fairly well hidden. Medium bodied. I quite liked this.
3.6 Got this one from LCBO Spring 2017 collection. I thought it was more of an IPA than a saison, therefore an ok saison.
4.7 Bottle from the LCBO. Cloudy golden yellow with a big pillowy white head. Nice bright aroma of grass, straw, lemon meringue, faint peach. Sweetish lemon with a big grass component to the flavour that is quite lovely. High carbonation.
3.4 Botella. Unclear golden colour, medium white head. Sweet like lightly spice and fruity funky like aroma with a good hoppiness. Sweet flavour, it’s and fruity with some spice to it along with a good hoppiness and funk + alcohol bit.
3.7 Hazy, thin head. Has a touch phenolic character, with a bit of autolysis maybe? Not a major factor in this beer. Has a mellow malt, just a hint of brett, alcohol and a dash of malt.
3.5 Completely opaque. Bright straw yellow. Bubbly little head. Aroma is lots of grains and hay. Quite tart with a grainy and grassy undertone.
2.7 On tap at Farmhouse Fest, pours a cloudy dull golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out funky feet, earthy notes, and biscuity malt. Flavour is a little better, with saison yeast, cereal malt and light earth. Lightly funky and fairly earthy on the finish. Too obscured and muddled for me. Decent.
3.8 Batch #1504 and best before 01/2019. Hazy light-golden colour with a white cap and some nice lacing. Beautiful aromas of citrus notes, Belgian Ale yeast sweetness and fresh grassy hops. Peppery taste with the lemon zest notes, coriander and earthy hints. Quite a nice slightly different Saison.
3.3 500ml bottle pours a hazy golden color with a finger of white head that leaves a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is light fruits and grains with some citrus and yeast. Taste is a light fruity and malty sweetness with a mild lemon tartness and citrus hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with modest carbonation. Overall, a bit hoppy for the style, but still a solid brew that I would sample again.
3.2 Bottle 0,5. Pours hazy golden with large white head, good retention. Grass, pepper, pineapple, citrus, hops. Medium body and high carbonation.
4.1 (bottle) hazy, bright golden colour with a tall white head; intense aroma of flowers, almost perfumy; intense, balanced flavour with a long, medium bitter finish, not excessively dry like many saisons; very nice
3.5 Hazy, pale golden colored, medium creamy white head. Aroma is fruity, lemony, lemongrass, some pepper spicy, peach, bit funky. Taste is medium sweet malt, fruity, lemongrass, citrus, bit peppery, some funk, moderate bitterness, dry finish, spicy yeast. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, oily. (bottle, Spicy Days, Zagreb)
3.0 Where and how: bottle 500 ml @ home batch 1508 8.8% Aroma highy floral hoppy notes with feel of Belgian strong golden ale. Quiet plesant. Appearance : Top: mild gusher. Shorter lived white top Base: hazed gold Palate : sugar on lips, heavier bodied, somewhat frisky, longer end with mild heat. Taste: on top leafy green hop, sweet bottom with dry heat. Slightly nutty, hint of white pepper. Quiet rough at edges. I see hints of solid beer here but as is this is a mess.
4.0 650 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber with full head. Aromas of tart stoned fruit leaning towards nectarines with additional tropical fruit and limes. Fkavors of same with bitter citrus and white pepper. More like a White IPA. Very nice.
3.4 Pour is a hazy straw with a large white head. Aroma is a grainy malt with some honeysuckle floral sweetness. Flavor is more grainy malt with some slight fruity esters and a bit of basement dust. Not a huge yeast came out with this beer and that’s the reason I did not give thi a higher score. Decent but not great.
3.5 Bottle from LCBO. Misty yellow in the glass with a mountain of creamy foam on the surface. Canned pineapple, papaya & lemon pepper. Carbonation is tweaked a little too high. Very prickly. A little bit funky. Thought i’d have something more to say. Middle of the road.
3.4 Bottled 500ml. -at Pivoteka Zagreb. Hazy yellow/golden coloured, medium sized creamy white head, light melon in the nose. Moderate malty, citrusy, slightly acidic fruity and mild alcohol with spicy hoppy finish. Hmmmm...expected better, nothing special here.
4.1 Bottle from the LCBO. Cloudy pale yellow with a large frothy white head. Nose is tropical and citrus with lemon, grapefruit and mango in the fore. Lighter hints of yeast, grass and some funk. Flavour follows with a light sweet honey under a light+ citrus bitterness and a light tartness. A very light pepper touches the back end. Mouth is medium with active carbonation. Quite enjoyable. 8+/4/8+/4/17
3.7 500ml bottle from the lcbo. Lcbo lab says this beer is 8.8%. A touch hazy, yellow, and a big frothy white pour. Aroma is very tropical, loads of mango, papaya, and pineapple. Body is full, I was not expecting that, carb is soft. Incredibly yeasty, hints of mint and floral grasses, with a low bitterness and a light citrus finish. Quite nice!
