Amager / Surly Todd - The Axe Man

Amager / Surly Todd - The Axe Man

English: For quite some time the Amager crew has been discussing this question: which person is the most rock’n’roll in the whole craft beer world - is it Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds or is it Todd Haug of Surly Brewing? In the end it wasn’t really all that difficult to decide since only Todd has played for Laura Dern in a David Lynch movie (yeah, Nicolas Cage was in that same movie, but since when did he count?) AND Todd plays the guitar in both a speed metal band and a stoner band.
Add to that that Todd and his wife Linda are some of the nicest people to hang out with. So Todd, here’s to you: "Todd - The Axe Man" - a potent IPA loaded with fresh American aroma hops on a base of rich Golden Promise malt, Surly’s signature malt. Raise a glass to Todd, world class brewer - and master of the axe!
Bonus facts about Todd: yes, he DID actually have a perm in his younger days (his wife confirms) and he does indeed love cats an awful lot.

Ingredienser: Vand. Malt: Golden Promise. Humle: Herkules, Citra, Mosaic. Gær: US-ale

3.8 Aroma; hops, herbs, tropical fruits with peel, resin, citric hops, pale malts. Look; off white head on hazy orange golden body, crocheted lacing. Taste; citric and tropical hops, herbs, fruit peel of citrus and tropical fruits, juicy resin, pale malts, and finish leans to the hoppy side of course. Feel; alright body and okay co². Overall; Fremad Amager!! [bottle 50cl from Alko Fi, T@cave o PivotekaH7]
3.4 Fast gone white head; veiled faintly orangey golden beer. Exotic fruit/citrus/asafoetida a mile out. Intense citrus, fruity, little bit of ureum. Dry-bitterish, some pale malts, faint toast. Citruspeel, less fruity than the nose. Ends a bit liqueurish. Faintly syrupy, not very carbonated, medium to better bodied. Very good nose, but not tasting very fresh. I Thanks to Stef! /I
4.2 Tap @ Amager Bryghus Taproom Nørreport. Had this superb IPA a few times before but realized I just have forgotten to rate it by some reason, so finding this fresh on tap straight from the source gave me a god opportunity to do so. It has an unclear golden body with a fine, big, lacing white head. Nice aroma of fresh, fruity hops with citric fruit, peach, grapefruit, grass and some pine with pale malt. Taste has a fine, fresh and balancing mix of all the above fruits with soft, smooth malt and good, distinct bitterness. Fine balanced body and long lasting aftertaste. A relay nice, proper IPA for sure.
3.7 Taste is citrus, dank fruits, hops and exotics Hazy colour with small head Taste is citrusy, pine, dank fruits Smooth mouthfeel with mild carbonation Good beer! Tasted at julefrokost
3.6 Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Yellow colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter flavor. Long heavy bitter finish. Creamy palate.
3.7 Fat @ Amager Bryghus Nörreport. Disig gyllengul öl med ett större vitt skum. Doft och smak av citrus, grapefrukt, karamel, tallbarr och lätta kådatoner.
4.2 Can from Deconinck. Hazy ochre, unstable, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of pineapple, perfumey pine, spruce, tangerine peel, yellow grapefruit, spices, pepper. Taste has sweetish pineapple, tangerine & peach; sourish zesty accent; bitter core of grapefruit, herbs & spices over bready maltiness. Earthy, resinous hoppy finish, very grapefruity, peppery with a decent hop burn. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Hefty stuff, strong IPA character at only 6.5%.
3.8 Bottle. Hazy with lots of sediment. Grassy, herbal hops. Very aromatic. Dry with prominent tartness. Lively carbonation. Great!
3.8 Pours hazy orange with small head. Tropical fruits, malt, pineapple, pine, some floral notes. Medium body and average carbonation.
4.0 Pours opaque honey yellow with a small quick gone white head. Nose: Pine, light malts, pinapple. Taste: Fresh, fruity, crisp, herbs, piny hops, nice balanced but very present bitterness. Overall: A very nice IPA, I could drink two or more.
2.7 Dark amber with a medium fluffy head. Tart and bitter with perfumey and floral hops. Long finish. Medium body.
3.6 Can picked up from the To Øl Webshop, Copenhagen, Denmar. Consumed at home Friday 7th May 2021 watching Squid do a livestream on Bandcamp on the day of the album release, and cooking a curry. Pours scummy yellow with a white head. Soft and creamy mouthfeel, juicy with lots of citrus, breakfast pink grapefruit. Nice aroma, a little lemon sorbet'ish'. This is a nice beer.

3.9 Sia all'olfatto che al gusto è protagonista il luppolo. Birra fatta molto bene.

3.5 Smell -weak, fruity, citrus malt, hops Foam- thin, fruity sweet, malt, hops. Head is small white color. Appearance- cool looking can as always for Amager. Hazy orange color, high carbonation. From - snifter Taste - fruity, sweet, hoppy, some citrus. Generally fruity, sweet IPA, right up my alley.
3.7 44cl can from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours hazy blonde, with limited very fine foam, quickly fading. Aroma is intensely citrus, grapefruit. Body is fairly thick, with moderate carbonation. Taste is markedly bitter, with nice initial sweetness. Final is average.
4.0 I have purchased this bottle, at the drinks of the world, Bern. Drinking it on my balcony, tonight, at Epalinges. The body is yellow/troubled with a sparkling carbonation, white foam. In my point of view, it is a delicious ipa, interesting with the aromas. You get a side of dry malt, mineral, herbal with a touch of pine tree, resinous with passion fruit, mango, citrus and fairly bitter, serious and tasty brewery.
3.9 Aromas florales. Sabor herbal, cítrico y algo resinoso. Muy baja retención. Bien equilibrada el alto número de IBU.
3.5 Can. Blonde. Lots of passionfruit and a hint of grass in the aroma. Sweetish, very fruity flavor with grass and green tea. Satisfyingly hopped, in spite of the heaps of tropical fruit. Nice one.

4.1 Pours a hazy, deep orange coloration with a small, frothy head. Smells of biscuity malt and grassy, resinous hops, with tropical and lighter citrus notes of mango, pineapple and grapefruit. Taste is a great balance of biscuity malt and bitter and resinous, yet somewhat sweet and juicy tropical and lighter citrus hops, being dominated by notes of mango, pineapple and pine, with lighter grapefruit, tangerine and a certain grassiness also coming through. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some pineapple, grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation. This is a rather nice IPA that with a strong WC character, but also a certain NE influence, perhaps not unlike Heady Topper. It's quite bitter and resinous, but also lacks a strong caramel malt backbone and has got a rather hazy look and juicy tropical fruit notes to it, while the mouthfeel is somewhere inbetween a WC and NE IPA. Yet this doesn't feel neither here nor there at all and manages a rather enjoyable balance between the two styles. Pretty awesome brew, actually.
4.0 Enjoyed: Poured from bottle into tulip glass. Appearance: Blurry ocher/pale orange colour, medium head which soon fades with nice lacing. Aroma: Malt, citrus, hops, flowers. Palate: Medium body, medium carbonation. Taste: Malt, gently sweet, fruits, citrus, hops, bitter with long lasting bitter aftertaste. Overall impression: Bitter but very tasty, good for sipping and enjoyment. Very good bottle-label.
3.7 Pale yellow pour with medium head. Hoppy, fruity and a lot of citrus. Thick, sizzling mouthfeel
3.1 Pale and hazy with a thin head. Strong smell of passion fruit. Bitter taste with a grapefruit ending.
3.9 Muddy blonde with an average head, anecdotic crackling. Greedy fruity aromas, here it's the hop in all its fruity splendor, combined with a creamy malt and caramel to smooth the whole. Tropical fruit salad with notes of flowers and resin well felt. Very well but very very bitter.
3.8 Bottle, 33cl. Golden, almost towards yellow. Pours with very little small white head. Dank, tangerine, lime, piney hobs. All 'bout that hops. Peaches, apricot, pears as well. Very fruity and nice. Dare I even say a little bit different than most IPAs. Malty biscuits sweetness with full grapefruits and hobby finish. Delightful. Really good. Little yeast to complement it. Medium to full body. Just simple, good quality IPA. I'm a fan!
3.6 White weak head. Cloudy hazy yellow colour. Aroma is hoppy, fruity (grapefruit, pineapple, pear and banana) with pine notes. Flavor is hoppy too with grapefruit , pear and plum tones, ending in an hoppy finish. Medium bodied.
