Amager / Trillium SigteBroad

Amager / Trillium SigteBroad

English: Once Amager Bryghus and Trillium Brewing Co. had decided to do a beer together, some investigative brewer research started on both sides of the Atlantic. Trillium main man Jean Claude Tetreault (JC) came across the name of an old Danish type of bread called “Sigtebrød”, and we decided to aim for a beer with mostly the same ingredients as in this old style of bread. However, we wouldn’t be Amager if we didn’t dig a little deeper into the matter. It appears that the word “sigte” – in English “to aim” - can be taken back to the Viking era, where a “Sigtebrød” would be baked very hard as a substitute for a traditional longbow in areas where wood was scarce or even absent. After the victorious battle the Viking could then toast their bread bow on a traditional Anglo Saxon toaster. Illustrations of this bread bow have been found in several places in Ireland and Scotland, but not until recently did the confused archaeologists realize, what exactly was going on. Several hundred years later, Danish settlers in Minnesota brought the old Viking bread with them, and it soon gained widespread popularity. Also the bakery girls of blonde, Danish descent selling the bread, became popular to an extreme degree, and local Minnesotans soon nicknamed them “sigte broads” for their good looks. In some areas the baker even had to arm his sigte broads with a traditional Danish long knife to dishearten the most intrusive young, male bread costumers. All very weird, but indeed very true.

1.6 Review: 33cl bottle of Amager Bryghus, Sigtebroad: 6.8% vol. Interesting logo of a woman cutting what looks like some bread. Looking at the bottle I get the horrible sight of a lot of sediment lying at the bottom of the glass. Looks rank, not appetizing at all. It’s a double hopped IPA! Sure enough, on pour it doesn’t look any better. Getting a massive white head and an orangish coloured beer. But again all that sediment floating around, large chunks of it…YUCK! I am nearly afraid to drink this, and you know me I’d drink any fucking thing! Other than all the floaties, the appearance is a cloudy brew with a whitish head which maintains well, and an orange coloured beer, which if it wasn’t for the sediment would look ok. The smell, on the other hand, is nice, very hoppy on the nose, with the fruits, all good. Ok let’s dive into the taste! Taste is very, very sweet and very hoppy as well. A bit too sweet. But at least its not rotten what with all that sediment! Quite a strong beer, and not too bad to sip, but very hoppy. Citrus and tropical fruits overload. Well it is a double hop but still……lol But nothing too exciting in the style, just another IPA that’s over hopped to the hilt, not terrible but not great. Not fun to drink as it looks terrible……..I will pass on this…….
4.4 Pretty much Trillium style here, for a great syrupy NEIPA! Pours new-hazy, quite a firm head with excellent retention and nice lacing. Very rich on the nose, with caramel biscuit, mango, peach, marmalade and pine. Tastes sweet and syrupy, in the fruity way, ripe fruits, mango, peach, marmalade and pine as for aroma. Lingering flavours in a frothy smooth body, rich and enjoyable til its last, lingering, drop! Excellent!
3.6 Botella. Quite unclear deep golden / orange colour, nice big white head, settling well, lasting weel. Pleasant exotic fruity pine citrus hoppy aroma. Good palate. Flavour has lots of exotic fruits, it's piney with citrus along with a good maltiness underneath all the before mentioned hops. Good bitterness.
3.6 Peachy complexion. Slight white head. Grassy knoles. Fatty, dank and so forth. Feels stronger than it is. Don’t do this on sunny spring afternoons like I did. A well made and just slightly unremarkable brew. The condition is good today though. I can’t be too cruel on this. I might secretly get another one.
3.7 Bottle. Pours slightly hazy amber with stable white head. Clear aroma of citrus and fruit, with hoppy and estery notes and touches of malt. Bitter flavour of hops and citrus with sweetish notes of malt and estery and fruity touches. Bitter, hoppy aftertaste with estery and malty touches and citic hints. Decent. A lot of sediment in the bottle, though.
3.7 Veiled golden, some particles, average pale yellow head. A IPA very fruity, aromatic and balanced. Creamy with lots of tropical fruits and citrus-zest, but also peach-apricot, spices and resin. Hints of herbs and honey. Bitter bite with bread and molasses
3.1 Dirty beige with just a ring of foam and deposits. Grapefruit smell with a bready, malty note. Bready taste with a hint of mango and orange.
3.8 Bottle. Hazy amber with white head. Aroma is orange, herbal hops, honey, very metallic. Medium dry with moderate-high tartness in the finish. Soft carbonation. Very enjoyable!

3.7 Flaska från SB. Grumlig mörkorange öl med ett smutsvitt skum. Doft smak av citrus (främst grapefrukt), bitter citrusmarmelad, tallbarr och malt.
4.2 This bottle is coming from the beer of the world, Geneva. Drinking and enjoying it at my hotel room, at Paris, Gare de Lyon, tonight. The body is rather clear, copper and yeasty, normal carbonation for the style, thin and white foam. In my point of view, it is a tasteful ipa, interesting with a perfect union between the malt and the swewtness, side of litchi, tropical fruit, note of warm alcool that it is well integrated, hoppy, citrus, long bitterness at the mouth, a bit soily and soapy, good job.
3.8 Murky yellow color with lacing off-white head. Aroma has mango, pineapple, citrus. Taste is fruity with long bitter and a bit sweet aftertaste. Flavors of citrus, pine, needles, mango and pineapple.
3.8 13Aug2019 Juicy tropical fruits, sharp mango peel, papaya, lightly candied passion fruit. Hazy gold, medium, creamy, white head. Light bitter. Bitter tropical fruits, mango peel, green papaya, passion fruit, wet straw, grass, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Nice Bottle from Drinks of the World.

3.8 330ml bottle. Murky golden with a white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, toffee. Taste is juicy, fruity, tropical, mango, pineapple, sweet toffee/caramel malt, bitter finish. Medium body, soft carbonation.
3.5 Tap @ TCBW. Hazy yellow with light off-white head. Mango, haze, something sharp, herbal? Mango, citrus, salt, a hint of berries.
3.3 Tap at TCBW. Hazy dark orange colour, small off-white head. Pine, orange marmalade aroma. Medium-bodied. Orange, mango, grass in flavour. Amagerish. (6/3/6/3/12) Rerate (Alko). Pineapple, grass, mango, quite sweet. Okish.
3.2 Very fresh and hoppy aroma. Taste is immediate sweetness. Deep and warm-ish hop flavor. Getting too close to DIPA territory. Thankfully it's hoppy and finishes off with a light bitterness.
3.2 Good white head over metallic orange beer with a faint haze. Orange, mandarinepeel, whiff of chlorine, cheeserind. Bitter, citruspeel, garden weeds, nettles, nettlecheese. Hopoil-dominated. Warming up, sweeter flavours as rosewater. Quite (hop)oily - slick. Medium bodied. Finish is very dry. I would have expected a tad more fireworks, certainly from Trillium.
3.9 Draft @ Beereau, Berlin shared with my brother.
3.6 Slightly hazy orange pour with a medium sized white head. Malts, mildly hoppy, wheat bread, caramel, toffee for aroma. Over medium sweet and medium bitter. Pretty full mouthfeel and medium Co2.
3.6 500ml bottle. Clear, orangey, dark golden colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Piney and citrusy, hoppy aroma, caramel malty background, notes of mandarine, orange, some grapefruit, some pineapple. Taste is sweet-ish, caramel malty, dry, piney and citrusy hoppy, notes of mandarine, orange, orange zest; oily texture, smooth, silky, super-soft palate.
3.7 Gul, lätt orange. Kraftig doft av tallbarr, en del citrus. Grape o tallbarr dominerar smaken. Avslutar lite smalt, typiskt för NEIPA. Rejäl beska.
3.6 Tap @ Beerfox Artisan Beer Bar. Pours darker shade or orange, some foam that even stays for a bit, comes down and does not leave too many lacings. Juicy wheat nose, some lacto and light hops, tropical sweetness. Tastes nice creamy with some lupulin dust. Not the cleanest flavours all-around but it's a solid NEIPA, enjoyable.
3.4 Tap.Hazy yellow colour with small head.Aroma of pine and citrus nice fresh with note of yeast and honey nice crispy With medium body and mild finish.
3.7 On tap at Archive. Pours slightly hazy gold w/thin head, fruity from start to finish: tangerine peel, honey notes. Zesty clean bitterness that lingers
3.3 From backlog. 0,2 litre taster at Cafe Sara, Oslo. Cloudy Golden with white head. Malts, hops, Juicy, Tropical.
4.5 6.8%ABV. NEIPA Tapped out hazy gold. 6°SRM. Nose has redolent aromas of guava, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, and nice clean hints of fresh spruce and cedar. Nice sweet malty funk that gives this beautiful beer an additional “fruity” boost. Mouthfeel is juicy and cabonated. Palate has flavors of water biscuit, saltine crackers, soda biscuits, and pale toast. There is a nice round fruity flavor in the front and middle. Hop flavors are spruce tips, Japanese cedar foliage, grapefruit peel, lemon zest. There is a hint of spice in the form of fresh herbs with cilantro, and dill. Finish is medium with some nice clean herbaceous bitter all the way to the end. Citrus peel bitter on the front . Overall, this was a big refreshing, juicy, pinous ride with a whole bunch of fresh conifer aromas and flavors. Goes on Favorites List!
