Amsterdam Boneshaker IPA

Amsterdam Boneshaker IPA

Copious amounts of hops balanced with over 4 different malts, unfiltered and naturally carbonated. The result? A truly unique taste experience and an award winning IPA! Expect fresh grapefruit & pine aromas followed by massive hop flavours!

3.7 Draught at brewhouse. A fairly malt forward IPA with some fruit hops and some pine
4.5 Had in the Scotland Yard in Toronto. Really enjoyed it and went well with the burger. A little on the strong side
4.8 At the time of this posting, Ratebeer had no general description so here is what the brewer describes it as: "Copious amounts of hops balanced with over 4 different malts, unfiltered and naturally carbonated. The result? A truly unique taste experience and an award-winning IPA! Expect fresh grapefruit & pine aromas followed by massive hop flavours!" I purchased mine in a 473ml can from the Liquor Control Board of Ontario store across the road--how convenient, lol. One sees immediately a nice touch in that the can is a background gold colour but the tab is partially the normal aluminum colour which is a nice visual touch. The appearance of the beer is a gorgeous hazy amber with a very brief head. The exceptional aspect is that while the alcohol content is 7.1% there is nothing harsh or strong about its taste. It is smooth and delicious on the tongue and throat. I think the Amsterdam Brewing Company's own description is not overselling but is an accurate description of this amazing beer.
3.2 Tallboy can from Beer Store in Toronto: amber pour, white-ish head. aroma of malts, pine, grass. tastes are herbal, caramel, citrus, malt heavy, biscuit. moderate long bitter finish.
2.1 I dislike IPA’s this was rather strong, and tastes like liquid hops in a can. If you enjoy IPA’s I would recommend it.
3.4 Aroma: caramel, herbs, pine, citrus. Appearance: amber color and creamy head. Taste: medium bitterness, pine, citrus, caremel. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation. Overall: decent classical IPA.
3.8 Taster in Amsterdam BrewHouse. Strong and sweet IPA with Pine, resin, citrus and caramel malts. Quality brew, went well with ribs.
3.1 A high IBU RATING of 80 attracted me to try this IPA. It was good and hoppy but a little sweet for my tastes. Could have been a bit more bitter but I enjoyed it.
3.5 On tap at Amsterdam Brewery TO. Clear amber colour lasting white head. Malty ipa. Some black pepper hop. It's fine but a bit too sweet. Feels punchier than it is. OK.
3.3 Another high IBU beer that is more sweet than bitter. Aroma is quite sweet of caramel and brown sugar which is mirrored in the foretaste. A fairly decent malt saves it from being too sweet and a bit of hop bitterness shows up in the aftertaste. Still a decent beer but I am always a bit disappointed in these beers that load up on hops to get a very high IBU and then end up being more sweet and less bitter than many of the lower IBU beers. Unless your bones are shaken by sugar, it does not really live up to its name.
4.4 Draft, from the Black Bull Tavern in Toronto. Well balanced sweet, hoppy IPA, with equal parts strong hops and strong malt aroma and flavor. Sweet finish. Beautiful clear dark brown color. No off-flavors. Wish they had this back in the States!
4.3 This is going to be a biased review as this is the beer that got me into IPA's and really craft in general, so keep that in mind. Pours a beautiful dark orange colour, body is not too hazy but has a massive frothy and long lasting head. Highly carbonated. Aroma is primarily of grapefruit, but also notes of citrus and hops in general. Taste is very smooth, with a very grapefruit forward taste but also hints of other citrusy fruits, and a nice hoppy and dry finish. Very bitter beer, but still completely balanced. One of my favorite IPA's, and one that I will continue to drink in the future.
3.3 Aroma is citrus, caramel and honey. Taste is rich sweet malts, citrus and and earthy hopiness.
3.0 Too boozy for my liking. A2518 can date, Jan 25 2018, drunk Feb 13 2018 F18, 7.1%, 473ml can, meh.
4.3 This was delicious and simply wonderful for a stronger beer. The citrus and pine elements--two of my favourite flavourings, by the way--were just right, neither too subtle nor overpowering. Certainly a go-to for me, from here on in...
3.5 Great full flavour IPA
3.5 On tap at the brewhouse. Deep gold pour with large foamy head. Bit sticky, some toffee/caramel sweetness. Hopes are there, but not in an ’out there’ sense, which is slightly disappointing for an IPA of such purported magnitude (going by the name at least). Extra alcohol is well-hidden though, making it quite drinkable and well-balanced in the end. Good enough.
3.6 Draft pint somewhere in Ontario, and a couple of chilled bottles at our holiday apartment. Hazy russet brown with an off white skim, Marmalade on digestive aroma. Chivers Olde English flavour, spruce, and sports shoe flavour. Big bitter finish, with an alcohol kick as I noticed when I woke up on the setee confused by Canadian teleprogramming. (Long day at Niagra falls).
5.0 Finally.... found a full flavored IPA in Toronto.
3.7 Had this one at Moxie’s tonight. Very good drink to accompany a good meal and great company, and celebrating a good news from the hospital.
3.3 Can sample at a tasting at Max’ place. Thanks troubles. Clear gold with a white head. A little skunky, soft piney hops in the nose. Sweetish, slightly skunky, old hops in the mouth. Smooth, bitter, again old hops in the finish. Very soft carbonation.
3.6 Tasted this separately from a 16-ounce can purchased at an LCBO in Toronto as well as on tap at the waterfront brewpub in Toronto. Pours clear copper with off-white head and lacing. Aroma: faint brown bread and brown sugar. Flavor: malt-forward plus caramelized orange peel, nutty, grainy. Mouthfeel: full-bodied. lush.
3.6 Pours deep amber with an off-white head. Aroma is grapefruit and pine. Taste is quite bitter with a good amount of sweetness underneath that. There are notes of grapefruit and resin up front, and a touch of malt and bubblegum. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A lot of people are saying that this beer is too bitter, I don’t think thats true. It has a lot of sweetness to balance out the bitterness, and if you are drinking a double IPA that claims 80 IBUs on the can, you should probably expect it to be fairly bitter. That being said, its not for amateurs.
3.8 Draught at The Jason George: almost opaque golden amber color. Small off white head some lacing. Good nose. Some pineapple, citrus and other tropical hops. Taste is very good. Just a bit bitter. Pineapple, citrus and other tropical hops. Very nice!
1.1 This IPA is way too much bitter. Therefore, I can’t feel any aroma or taste expect the bitterness.
0.8 I don't like it It's that simple I don't understand why do I need to write 75 characters to describe how I dislike it. This note is intended for my personal use
3.2 Can sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks troubles. Deep golden. Hops aroma, grassy, "green", hop pellets, a bit fruity. Flavor has sweetish malt and bitter hops. Medium-bodied.
3.6 Pours golden rusty with a nice head, aroma of green, fresh hops, pineapple, flavor is bitter with pine, lemon skin, onion, medium bodied
3.7 500ml can. It pours a dark orange going to amber color with a white head. Maybe too dark for a IPA? Nose is hoppy, grapefruit, resin. Taste is caramel malt, citrus, grapefruit bitterness, well done IPA for sure.
3.2 Pour on tap at the brewery, dark orange-red pour with eggshell white head, aroma brought notes of citrus peel, orange, some slight pine into caramel, toffee, spice notes. Taste was a mix of sweet orange, grapefruit into caramel, toffee, finishing bitter.
